It s Easy to Lock and Shop with NEFCU s Extended Rate Lock Option

NEFCU offers the opportunity to lock your rate for 120 days either at pre-approval or when you have a fully signed Purchase and Sales Contract for any 3/3, 5/1, 5/5, 7/1 Adjustable Rate Mortgage; or our portfolio fixed rate for Champlain Housing Trust and Jumbo Loans. This ensures rates won t go up and allows a one-time float down option for up to 10 business days prior to closing should rates decrease.

Rate Lock Instructions

NEFCU allows you to lock your rate (following the instructions below) if you:

Please note, you cannot lock a purchase pre-approval. You must wait until you have a signed Purchase and Sales Contract to submit a rate lock. You cannot lock a VA loan until NEFCU has verified your Certificate of Eligibility through the VA.

The rate lock period can change. Please look at the second page of today s rate sheet to choose the correct rate lock period and fee (if applicable.)

The interest rate you lock, will be your rate regardless of whether rates go up or down before your closing provided that your loan disburses within the rate lock period. If your loan does not disburse within your rate lock period, your rate lock will expire. If your rate lock expires, NEFCU has the sole right to adjust the rate based upon market conditions. Your rate may be the same or higher in these instances. You can check current interest rates and the current rate lock time period here .

To lock your interest rate, we will require the following information:

  • full name of the borrower or borrowers
  • property address
  • contact phone number
  • loan amount, within $10,000
  • term you are requesting
  • number of points, if any, you intend to pay
  • whether the transaction is a Purchase or Refinance
  • whether you are locking in a Fixed Rate or an Adjustable Rate
  • if the home is your Primary Residence, Second Home or an Investment Property
  • the interest rate you are locking into (from the current rate sheet )
