Advanced Standing MSW Program

You can enter our MSW program with advanced standing if you have a baccalaureate degree in social work from an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.

As a student with advanced standing, you’ll begin the program in early July and complete your MSW degree during one academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters).

NOTE: To ensure that students who have earned a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program do not repeat what has been mastered in their baccalaureate social work education, they are not accepted into the two-year MSW program. Exceptions to this policy are rare and may be considered through an appeal to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Please contact the GSSW Office of Admission for additional information.

Summer quarter

The first quarter of the advanced standing program consists of course work only. You will take two required courses during this quarter, a multicultural social work practice class and a seminar that will help you integrate your BSW education with your social work experience and plan your continuing professional development. You’ll also take two elective courses of your choice.

Your summer quarter course work will be as follows:

  • Power, Privilege and Oppression from a Critical Multicultural Perspective (3 quarter hours)
  • Advanced Standing Seminar (3 quarter hours)
  • Concentration Course Work (required/electives, 6 quarter hours)

(Total of 12 quarter hours)

In addition to the two required courses above, all advanced standing students are also required to take Evidence for Practice (3 quarters hours). Students have the option of taking this course in summer or fall quarter. This course is pre-requisite to the concentration research sequence.

In fall quarter, you’ll begin your concentration curriculum in the same manner as two-year MSW students, advancing in professional knowledge and skill by specializing in one of eight social work concentrations:

  • child welfare
  • children and youth: risks and healthy development
  • family systems practice
  • aging services and policy
  • health and wellness
  • mental health
  • organizational leadership and policy practice
  • sustainable development and global practice

Antenna Selection Guide
To find the perfect antenna, first list the RF Channels around Tulsa which you want to watch. The CEA. Consumer Electronics Association, and NAB. National Association of Broadcasters, created the AntennaWeb to help you with the rest. Free! An example of how it works is presented below.

Fortunately, station towers are clustered in most cities – East of us in our example.

Antenna Color Codes
Color Codes represent an antenna’s reception strength. Within 15 miles of stations an Indoor Antenna can be used (in the Yellow, Green and Light Green Zones). Farther away you’ll need to use an Outdoor Antenna. Our Example calls for color codes blue and violet. The stronger violet type will work for both.   • One graduate level oncology course of at least 2 credits or 30 hours oncology Continuing Education within the past five years
    • Current, active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the US, its territories or Canada
    • Graduate degree from accredited nursing practice program with concentration in adult (primary or acute), family (across lifespan), gerontology, or women’s health
    • 1000 hours practice as an adult oncology nurse practitioner obtained within and/or following the graduate program within the past five years
    • One graduate level oncology course of at least 2 credits or 30 hours oncology Continuing Education within the past five years

Applying for certification

The certification test is a three-hour, 165 multiple-choice test is based on the AOCNP ® Test Content Outline (Test Blueprint). The Test Content Outline is based on the results of a role delineation study of advanced oncology nursing practice completed in 2014.

The AOCNP ® Test Content Outline includes eleven major subject areas, each with a percentage assigned to it. Many nurses who have passed the test tell us the Test Content Outline was essential in helping them know what areas to study. Remember, only generic drug names are used on ONCC tests. Once you pass the test, your certification is valid for four years.

Note: If you’re eligible to test, you’ll receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) within 4 weeks of applying. This ATT will open an almost-immediate 90-day testing window. You must take the test within that 90-day window.

Maintaining your certification

You should be very proud that you’ve passed the certification test! In order to keep your certification, you need to earn points for certification renewal by completing Continuing Education, Continuing Medical Education, Academic Education credits, or have work published in publications or give presentations. Follow this step-by-step guide to maintain your certification.

1. Determine where to log your information.
If you passed a test in 2012 or later, use your Learning Plan on LearningBuilder. If you renewed via ONC-PRO in 2012 to 2015, you must first take an assessment to determine how many points you’ll need. After you assess, you will be notified that your Learning Plan is available for tracking your points.

2. Plan your professional development.
Your assessment results or test score report will tell you the subject areas and number of professional development points – ranging from 25 to 100 – you’ll need to renew your certification.

3. Select the necessary subjects.
Use your score report or assessment results to see which subject areas you need further professional development. Then, refer back to the current Test Content Outline (Test Blueprint) to help you identify whether a program is in the subject area you need.

4. Enter your points on your Learning Plan on LearningBuilder.
Make sure you keep track of all of your information, as you earn the points, in your Learning Plan on the new online tracking tool called LearningBuilder.

5. Keep all documentation.
We strongly urge you to record your points as they are earned. Keep copies of all grade reports, copies of publications, program descriptions, educational objectives, and outlines, in case ONCC asks to review them.

We’ve left one thing out of our simple equation above — closing costs . You’ll need to either pay the closing costs from your savings (lowering the amount you have available for a down payment), or qualify for a loan that’s a little larger than the house you want to buy, and have the closing costs added to the loan.

Returning our focus to getting the biggest loan possible, here are the things that can get us a bigger loan:

  • Higher monthly income
  • Lower existing monthly debt payments
  • Bigger down payment
  • 30-year mortgage (vs. 15)
  • A better credit score
  • A lower property tax insurance rate

Let’s look at each of these in detail.

Higher Monthly Income. Obviously the more you can afford to pay for a home, the bigger the loan you can get.
