Online Medical Billing Programs, online classes medical billing and coding.

Online Medical Billing Programs

There are very few industries currently experiencing as much growth as the medical sector, both in the short and the long term. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) the health care and social assistance sector will account for more than a third of the projected job growth between 2014 and 2024. That means increased demand for professions that fall within that industry, including office and administrative workers. The Affordable Care Act has added a level of complexity to existing billing processes, so that medical billing specialists will continue to be in high demand.

Oftentimes, when a sector experiences rapid growth, schools may struggle to keep up with the demands placed on related certificate and degree programs. Luckily, the new millennium has brought us incredible technologies to help address those increased demands, especially through the medium of online education. Universities throughout the country offer easily accessible online medical billing programs — both certificates and some associate degrees — to ensure that tomorrow’s workforce is qualified and ready to work.

Online Medical Billing Degree Programs

Medical billing professionals typically need some post-secondary training for entry-level positions. According to the BLS, if you’re interested in becoming a medical records or health information technician, the best option is an associate degree in medical information technology. To prepare for this degree, it’s recommended to take high school courses in health, math, biology and computer science.

Medical records are highly confidential, so it’s important for health information techs to be organized and extremely knowledgeable in their field. Medical billing students can expect to take classes in:

  • Health data requirements
  • Legal topics
  • Anatomy
  • Coding and classification systems
  • Medical terminology

Most associate degrees usually take two years to complete, and many employers will also require some form of certification. In fact, most careers in the health care sector will require certification and ongoing education, due to the sensitive nature of the work. According to the BLS, certifications include:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)

Some organizations, but not all, certify medical records technicians upon passing a standardized national exam. Keep in mind that once you’re certified, you must continue to take educational courses and renew your certification every few years.

While on-campus options are available at many community colleges and vocational schools across the country, an online medical billing certificate program is often the quickest way to capitalize on the educational investment. A variety of universities, including brick-and-mortar institutions as well as online-only programs are available for students to choose from. Most universities offer certificate programs, which can typically be completed within one year of study.

Career Outlook for Medical Billing Professionals

While the BLS provides no data specifically on the profession of medical billing, it does provide earnings data on affiliated professions such as bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks and medical records and health information technicians, which might provide insight into earnings potential. Medical records and health information technicians can work a bit more on the patient side than strictly on the billing and accounting side, but the earnings may be comparable to those that can be expected by medical billing specialists.

According to the BLS, medical records and health information technicians earned a mean annual wage of $40,430 in 2015, and the job growth for the profession is expected to be strong at 15 percent, which is faster than average. As for bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks, who perform similar functions as medical billing specialists, but usually in non-medical fields, the BLS lists a mean annual wage of $38,990.

In terms of states with the most available positions for bookkeeping clerks, the nation is led by California, Texas and New York while the most positions for medical records and health information technicians are available in California, Texas and Florida. When it comes to earnings, medical records technicians earn the highest wages in the District of Columbia, New Jersey and Alaska while bookkeeping clerks can also expect to earn the most in the Washington, D.C. area, Alaska and Massachusetts.

Choosing Your Medical Billing School

Before selecting a school, all students should carefully research school graduation rates, costs and potential employment opportunities upon graduation. It’s also a good idea to talk to alumni about their careers. The most important factor is to make sure the school is accredited. Before making a decision, spend some time learning about the online learning platform that the university uses and find out about the amount of student-instructor interaction that will be available to future students.

The Catholic Encyclopedia

Click here to jump straight to the articles:

Original Preface. The Catholic Encyclopedia, as its name implies, proposes to give its readers full and authoritative information on the entire cycle of Catholic interests, action and doctrine. What the Church teaches and has taught; what she has done and is still doing for the highest welfare of mankind ; her methods, past and present; her struggles, her triumphs, and the achievements of her members, not only for her own immediate benefit, but for the broadening and deepening of all true science. literature and art all come within the scope of the Catholic Encyclopedia. It differs from the general encyclopedia in omitting facts and information which have no relation to the Church. On the other hand, it is not exclusively a church encyclopedia, nor is it limited to the ecclesiastical sciences and the doings of churchmen. It records all that Catholics have done, not only in behalf of charity and morals. but also for the intellectual and artistic development of mankind. It chronicles what Catholic artists, educators, poets, scientists and men of action have achieved in their several provinces. In this respect it differs from most other Catholic encyclopedias. The Editors are fully aware that there is no specifically Catholic science, that mathematics, physiology and other branches of human knowledge are neither Catholic. Jewish. nor Protestant ; but when it is commonly asserted that Catholic principles are an obstacle to scientific research, it seems not only proper but needful to register what and how much Catholics have contributed to every department of knowledge.

No one who is interested in human history, past and present, can ignore the Catholic Church. either as an institution which has been the central figure in the civilized world for nearly two thousand years, decisively affecting its destinies, religious, literary, scientific, social and political, or as an existing power whose influence and activity extend to every part of the globe. In the past century the Church has grown both extensively and intensively among English-speaking peoples. Their living interests demand that they should have the means of informing themselves about this vast institution, which, whether they are Catholics or not, affects their fortunes and their destiny. As for Catholics. their duty as members of the Church impels them to learn more and more fully its principles; while among Protestants the desire for a more intimate and accurate knowledge of things Catholic increases in proportion to the growth of the Church in numbers and in importance. The Catholic clergy are naturally expected to direct inquirers to sources of the needed information; yet they find only too often that the proper answers to the questions proposed are not to be met with in English literature. Even the writings of the best intentioned authors are at times disfigured by serious errors on Catholic subjects, which are for the most part due, not to ill-will, but to lack of knowledge. It would be fatuous to hope to call into immediate existence a Catholic English literature adequate to supply this knowledge and correct errors. The Encyclopedia, therefore, is the most convenient means of doing both, enabling, as it does, the foremost Catholic scholars in every part of the world to contribute articles in the condensed form that appeals to the man of action, and with the accuracy that satisfies the scholar.

Designed to present its readers with the full body of Catholic teaching. the Encyclopedia contains not only precise statements of what the Church has defined. but also an impartial record of different views of acknowledged authority on all disputed questions. In all things the object of the Encyclopedia is to give the whole truth without prejudice, national, political or factional. In the determination of the truth the most recent and acknowledged scientific methods are employed, and the results of the latest research in theology. philosophy. history. apologetics. arch ology. and other sciences are given careful consideration.

The work is entirely new, and not merely a translation or a compilation from other encyclopedia sources. The Editors have insisted that the articles should contain the latest and most accurate information to be obtained from the standard works on each subject. Contributors have been chosen for their special knowledge and skill in presenting the subject, and they assume the responsibility for what they have written. Representing as they do Catholic scholarship in every part of the world, they give the work an international character.

The Encyclopedia bears the imprimatur of the Most Reverend Archbishop under whose jurisdiction it is published. In constituting the Editors the ecclesiastical censors, he has given them a singular proof of his confidence and of his desire to facilitate the publication of the work which he has promoted most effectively by his influence and kindly co-operation.

The Editors take occasion on the appearance of this first volume to express their gratitude to all who have taken part with them in this enterprise; in particular to the hierarchy for their cordial endorsement; to Catholic publishers and to the editors of the Catholic press for their frequent courtesies; to the contributors for their ready co-operation; to the original subscribers for their generous support; to the directors of the Company organized specially to produce the work, and to many non-Catholics for their kindly encouragement.

Free Medical Billing Training – Good Free Resources to Learn Billing and Coding, online medical coding and billing classes.

#Online #medical #coding #and #billing #classes

Free Medical Billing Training

Free Medical Billing Training. Find out what Free will get you. You’ve heard the old saying – If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. But there are some resources for learning about the medical billing process for free or reasonable cost.

A free introduction to the important concepts of medical billing and coding. Over an hour of video instruction. Covers many of the important subjects from the more comprehensive Medical Billing Fundamentals course ( Includes over $78 in FREE Material ).

There are some free “Mini Courses” online that are simply a very generalized document about medical billing and coding. It’s usually a document a few pages long or a short video presentation that gives a sample of their material. The hope is that you’ll be impressed enough to commit to purchasing the entire training program.

Be careful – I fell for this and spent several hundred dollars. It was an impressive looking website and slick marketing. Once I purchased all I received was a notebook of general information I could have easily found on the internet. Boy did I feel like a fool! And forget trying to get a refund.

Look out for Scams – Hold On to Your Credit Card

Also be wary of free medical billing training trial programs that require you to enter credit card information before viewing their “free” material. Supposedly if you decide not to take the complete course you have to call to cancel. I’m suspicious of anybody that wants a credit card up front. Once they get your credit card number it can be very difficult to get a refund or prevent them from charging you.

I’ve done this with other “free” offers before and found it almost impossible to cancel and get them to stop charging my credit card.

There are ways you can get free medical billing training. However the quality of the training may be lacking.

Get Real World Experience

Offer to work part time for a medical billing service for free – for a limited time of course. When I was anxious to learn medical billing, I offered to work for free. My thinking was that is a great way to get hands-on real world training.

I had a friend who started a medical billing business and was very busy. I talked to her about how she got started and asked for her advice. During our conversations I offered to work for free for a short time until I learned enough to start my own business.

Medical billing is the sort of work that can be done at home easily. Fortunately they didn’t take me up on the free part but did pay me for part time work from home. To me that was like getting paid to learn!

I started out working on insurance aging which involved calling insurance companies to follow up on unpaid claims and determine why they were rejected. I got progressively more experience and responsibilities until I felt comfortable marketing my own business.

If you are starting a medical billing business, this type of work is an excellent way gain experience and cultivate contacts with other people in the field – such as doctors, office managers, and other billers and coder.

There is a website called Quizlet which the worlds largest online student and teacher community. Their mission is to help students master the subjects they are learning. Quizlet has an almost overwhelming amount of medical billing and coding lessons, study guides, and tests from a wide variety of credible students and teachers.

Best of all it’s FREE!

Even better than free medical billing training is the thought of getting paid to learn. As mentioned above, any environment you can get into – even for pay that is less than the going rate – that allows you some experience in the field is a great help toward getting trained. This would be short term of course.

Consider opportunities at a medical billing services company, hospital or doctors office, or insurance company. Anything that gets you exposed to the field looks good on your resume. Remember your goal is getting experience – so a short term sacrifice in pay may be worth it to prove yourself and get good references.

One of the requirements I notice in medical billing job postings is experience in the field – probably more than training or credentials for medical billing. That’s why getting any experience you can is important. In this field there are many things that can’t be taught in a classroom environment.

Update 2017 – п»їVideoTrainingPro.comп»ї used to offer very good free medical billing training video’s. However they have recently removed them from their site. They seem to be concentrating on just Window’s training now. Not sure why as they were very well done.

If we can find where they have been moved to we will post a new link. They had an extensive (113) catalog of video’s on just about anything a medical billing specialist does.

Research the Internet for Free Medical Billing Training

There’s so much information from credible sources available on the internet on medical billing. You can educate yourself and find information on just about any topic. The challenge is being able to separate the credible and knowledgeable from the pretenders.

Even on this site I try to document my experiences, information, and other free medical billing training resources that may be helpful to others getting started in the medical billing and coding profession.

I found it can be difficult to find any in-depth information on particular topics. This takes a lot of time. There is a lot of online information on medical billing that seems to be almost entirely dedicated to marketing and not educating. These sites are just trying to sell something. Or on the opposite end of the spectrum having so much information that it’s overwhelming.

An example of this would be the HIPAA. There’s a tremendous amount of information about HIPAA available at CMS – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services . But trying to determine what is relevant and applicable to a small practice is almost overwhelming as there are so many facets of HIPAA.

A lot of billing services are smart to educate themselves well on HIPAA (and other industry issues) and use this to educate, and market to, small practices. This is a great way to open doors and establish yourself as an expert.

American Association of Professional Coders ( AAPC ) is also has some great info on medical billing – although their main concentration is coding.

Other Free Medical Billing Training Resources

We’ve added free resources to this site to help those wanting to learn medical billing. These are also listed on our medical billing resources page:

Our free Medical Billing Terms eBook is a quick reference of medical billing terms we’ve compiled to help understand the terminology of medical billing. It’s a PDF file we will email to you at the link above which you can save locally or print out.

Our Medical Billing and Coding Careers Guide is a 15 page overview of medical billing for those considering a career in medical billing or a medical coding career. It’s kind of a condensed compilation of information available on the site in more detail. It may be helpful as a free medical billing training resource to explain the basics.

Something else that would have been helpful to me when getting into medical billing was something that explained how an insurance claim is processed.

The Medical Billing Insurance Claim Flowchart is another free medical billing training tool that shows a very simple flowchart explaining how healthcare claim processing works and how insurance claims billing works.

Our Medical Billing Books page has links to several affordable individual books on the fundamentals of medical billing from reputable sources. Many of our visitors have found these to be a great economical way to learn medical billing fundamentals.

Can You Take the GED Test Online?

Updated February 06, 2017

We do so much online today that it seems natural to expect to be able to take the GED test online, too. Can you? Nope. There was some confusion when, in 2014, the GED test became computer-based. You now take the GED test on a computer, but not online. There s a very big difference between computer-based and online.

You can find free practice GED tests online in several places, but when you re ready to sit down for the actual test. you need to take it at a certified testing center, in person.

The good news is that they are all over America, even in the smallest communities, so chances are very good that there is one near you. Google Adult Education in your town or city, or look it up in the phone book, if you still have one.

So what kinds of GED prep resources can you find online? Plenty!

Online High Schools – Thumbs Up or Down?

Many people choose to attend an online high school. Are they safe? Some are. You ll need to do some serious homework.

It s especially important to be sure the school you choose is accredited. What does that mean? Learn why accreditation is important before you sign up for any online high school.

Online Prep

If you just want some help prepping, and aren t interested in signing up for a school, there are plenty of places online that offer lessons and practice tests. We list several of them in this article, Free Online GED Practice Tests and Free GED Classes .

Remember that most communities, whether small or huge, have literacy councils that offer free tutoring for adults and children in many, many subjects, including GED, English, math, reading, and pretty much anything you need help with. Ask. If you have trouble finding them, check with the local newspaper.

They ll be sure to know.

Studying for Your GED at Home

Earning a GED can be embarrassing, so many people choose to study at home, and now that there are so many resources available on the Internet, studying at home is so much easier. We have some tips for you in this article, Ways to Study for Your GED/High School Equivalency Diploma at Home

There are a lot of scams out there, and the people running them are pretty heartless. Please do not fall for offers that claim you can take the GED test online. They re all scams. They want your money, lots of it, in exchange for a meaningless piece of paper. Don t think employers or schools will fall for these fake certificates. They re smarter than that. So you will have lost good money and gotten absolutely nothing in return.

Earn your GED the right way and be proud of it. And remember, you must take your GED test at a certified testing center, in person.

Find a center near you by going to your state s GED website or to the GED Testing Service .

Free Online Lectures and Courses for Computer Science

Computer Science Content Navigation

In its purest form, computer science is the research and development of technology that solves specific problems. Computer science has brought the world smart phones, GPS systems, the gaming industry and tablet computing, along with technological developments that assist government, industry and medicine. In addition to creating new technology, computer scientists also make improvements to existing technology and study the ways computers can make our lives easier.

As with any branch of science, computer scientists perform research that establishes new information. This research begins with known mathematical algorithms and computer theory, and strives to constantly redefine what technology can do for us. Computer science also addresses how existing technology can be used in ways previously undiscovered, creating applications that may be faster, simpler, more efficient or less costly.

Exploring fundamental questions about computation is the first step toward designing the hardware, software and complex network systems that we rely upon. Some computer scientists focus entirely on theory, some concentrate on programming and still others work on user applications. The end result of this research includes new tools and methodologies that drive better business practice, scientific applications and social networking.

Sample Courses

During the first two years of a standard 4-year program, students focus on the basics:

  • Calculus I, II, III
  • Program Design
  • Foundations of Computing
  • Data Structure
  • Introduction to Algorithms
  • Computer Architecture
  • Information Retrieval
  • Computer Graphics

Typical core courses in a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science are taken in the third and fourth year, and may include the following:

  • Algorithm Design and Analysis
  • Technical Writing
  • Database Construction
  • Object-Oriented Software
  • Compilation
  • Artificial Intelligence: Control and Planning
  • Mobile Applications
  • Wireless Networks
  • Software Engineering
  • Data Mining Methodology

Possible Specializations

Specialization within computer science generally falls into one of three categories: hardware, software or robotics.

Hardware refers to the machinery of computers. Hardware consists of the processors and chips that send, receive and process information. It can also extend to peripherals that function outside of the computer, like printers, disk drives, monitors, keyboards, tracking devices or game controllers.

Software. on the other hand, is the tool with which we instruct computers to perform tasks. Software programs can include Internet browsers, game systems, GPS technology, search engines or social network applications that are operable on a smartphone. Software design is highly complex and demands accuracy and precision.

Robotics explores how computers interact with our world, seeking ways for computers to reproduce tasks performed by humans. Robotics specialists work closely with both hardware and software designers to create effective robots and explore their full potential.

Degree Types

The four core degree levels for computer science come with their own distinct possibilities upon graduation. The higher the degree level, the more senior the computer scientist, which can mean more research-intensive, academically grounded positions. Review brief depictions of each degree below.

An entry-level degree largely designed for students to get their bearing in the computer science field. Once an associate in computer science is earned, they can then pursue a bachelor s, ideally with many core credits already earned. While full-time compsci positions are hard to acquire with an associate s alone, the programming knowhow and fundamental skills taught at this level are an excellent introduction to the field. Particularly talented programmers may only need an associate s to land a position, relying on their own affinities to fill in what a bachelor s or graduate degree could teach them.

Bachelor s

Bachelor s in computer science programs require mathematics, physics and engineering classwork. There are a number of interdisciplinary specializations available for talented computer scientists, but students must first master programming, algorithms and network systems.

Master s

Graduates may pursue a master s in computer science. which imparts even more practical knowledge to its candidates. Generally two years in length, a master s program provides a working knowledge of some of the most current applications in use.

Computer scientists who are interested in research may opt to pursue a Ph.D. in computer science. Ph.D. programs delve deeply into computational theory and encourage students to innovate within the field. Students who complete the Ph.D. program, usually within 4 to 6 years after undergraduate school, are groomed for a career performing research projects and teaching.

Ideal Candidates for Computer Science

Computer scientists are generally logical thinkers and good problem-solvers. Creativity is also a necessary trait for developing innovative ideas, and an affinity for mathematics is definitely helpful. If you have these traits, along with good critical thinking skills and close attention to detail, computer science may be the field for you.

It is important to note that computer scientists usually work in a collaborative environment; these positions do not entail working alone in front of a computer. Effective communications skills and the ability to function on a team are also essential.

If the course curriculum and career possibilities for computer scientists appeal to you, you may be that special breed of mathematician and creative puzzle-solver that the industry requires. Research undergraduate degree programs in computer science, and consider scheduling a meeting with a professor or advisor to discuss a program in more depth. Research student affiliates of professional computer science networking groups, or consider taking part in a local computer science club to make contacts and explore the field.

Career Pathways

Computer scientists fresh out of an undergraduate program have several choices. The majority of these graduates accept an entry-level position in programming, software engineering or web development. Entry-level titles may include:

  • Systems Administrator
  • Software Developer
  • Software Engineer
  • Business Analyst
  • Network Engineer
  • Java or .NET Developer

With a few years of experience, promotions to higher corporate positions can be expected. Computer scientists who prefer to remain in industry often choose this time to pursue a terminal master s degree to hone their practical skills in computer science.

Computer scientists who lean more towards research than practical application are sometimes able to attain an entry-level position in a research and development firm or software company, but graduate work is encouraged for significant advancement. Some researchers choose to spend their careers pursuing complex problem-solving that results in new products for the marketplace. Earning a PhD provides these computer scientists with the facilities and funding necessary for intense research.

Today we are experiencing ever-increasing stress in our lives due to demands of our jobs, family situations and economic conditions. The ability to maintain composure during these times, and avoid inappropriate expressions of anger, is a crucial skill to living a healthy, happy, and balanced life.

There are many reasons why anger may be manifesting within us today, including:

    • things not going the way we want them to
    • not getting our important needs met in situations
    • feeling we are not treated fairly
    • someone treating us in unkind or abusive ways
    • feeling disrespected or not understood by others
    • learning as a child from family mambers that using anger
    • to get what we wanted was normal behavior.

However, none of the reasons above can ever be used as justification for outbursts of unsafe anger and rage. With new, tougher assault and domestic violence laws now in force, it s more important now than ever for all of us to take responsibility for our behaviors that affect others.

    How Our Programs Help

Anger Management Associates (AMA) is dedicated to helping people whose ways of expressing anger are resulting in problems within their family and workplace relationships as well as in public settings. Our goal is to help individuals develop their Emotional Intelligence skills for living happier, more peaceful and successful lives. We provide not only proven in-class training, but guide our students in how to apply the techniques and skills they learn to every day living. The life-changing skills learned help you make positive changes that you and others will recognize. AMA classes are taught by a certified anger management instructor and are accepted by the court systems. Participants receive a Certificate of Completion at the completion of their class.

Through our Free Phone Consultation. AMA will help you select the best program for your needs. Private follow-up phone support is always available for participants who have completed our classes.

    About the Instructor

For the past 19 years, Lou Orsan, MFA, has been dedicated to helping people learn Emotional Intelligence skills where they honor each other s uniqueness and where adults can create safe, loving and nurturing family environments for children to grow and thrive within. Before retiring from private counseling in 2008, Lou offered anger management and couple s relationship counseling and emotional healing therapy in addition to teaching classes.

In his work today, Lou continues to provide anger management and couple s relationship classes for individuals referred by county and state court systems and social service agencies, as well as self-referred individuals who choose to learn skills to manage their emotions more effectively. His programs are also sought out by human resource departments of corporations and City and State government agencies seeking to help their employees acquire emotional regulation skills for the workplace.

Lou s training includes certified anger management provider training through the American Counseling Association (ACA) and domestic violence continuing education training approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Their training programs are excellent and you will be well prepared for your certification exam upon completion of the Red Cross Training.

Many community colleges offer CNA training classes. These classes can last several weeks or even several months. Typically, these training courses are non-credit courses. You will become a certified nursing assistant after completing all training and passing the exam.

There are online CNA training programs as well. You will be able to complete much of the work that you would normally complete in a classroom and lecture setting online. Of course, your hands on training will need to be completed in a healthcare setting.

Criteria For Choosing A CNA School:

Finding a CNA school or CNA training program is not a process that should be taken lightly. There is a list of criteria you should look for when considering prospective training programs.

    I. A CNA program must be approved/certified by the state where you are working to become certified with the ability to work as a CNA. If a program is not a state approved program, you will not be able to sit for the nursing assistant certification competency exam once you finish training. Therefore, it would not be possible to work as a certified aide. Cna classes colorado

II. Find a CNA school that is able to offer flexible schedule opportunities. If you work during the day for instance, you do not want a course that offers only daytime classes. Search for programs that have both day or evening courses. You can also seek programs that provide for weekend training opportunities in full or at least in part.

III. When considering criteria for a great CNA school, you will want to consider the experience and expertise of the training staff for each potential program. CNA programs should be taught by nurses. Most states will require that the instructor be a Registered Nurse. Look for programs with instructors who have several years experience working as nurses as well as multiple years as a CNA instructor.

IV. Ask prospective schools for statistical information for their program. For example, what percentage of individuals who enroll in the program end up completing the CNA course in its entirety? Look for schools with the highest percentages. Check to see what percent of students pass the CNA competency exam on the first try. Once again, you will want the programs with the highest success rates on the first or second tries.

    V. Review carefully the clinical opportunities provided by CNA programs of interest. Some programs offer more clinical hours than others. You will find that the level of hands on experience provided can vary greatly between CNA programs. Look for a program that will offer you as much experience as possible performing CNA duties before you sit for your nursing assistant certification exam.

VI. When considering criteria for a good CNA school, find schools with the best reviews and feedback. You want to attend a nursing assistant program that current and prior students speak of positively. Do not consider a school with more negative than positive reviews. If you have heard good things about the school from a CNA you know personally, this makes the great reviews or ratings even more valuable.

VII. Search for a nursing assistant training program that has a strong history of placement of graduates. An ideal school is one where a large percentage of graduates find work as nursing assistants after obtaining their certification. Ideally, graduates will find a job within a short period of time. Consider looking for schools that even offer some job placement services.

    Final Considerations

Your nursing assistant training will prepare you for the certification examination that you must pass. The test will have a written portion as well as a skills portion where you will demonstrate your ability to perform a variety of tasks. You will need to pass this test in order to receive your certification.

My journey as a language instructor and coach started 15 years ago when I made the decision to move from Caracas to New York City to learn English. Before moving to this country My experience at learning a new language as an adult, my passion for teaching technical subjects in the past and my natural way to connect and help others led me to the beginning of a new career at teaching Spanish in The US. A few years later I moved to Miami and founded Spanish Consultants, and since then I have been an entrepreneur and a guide for hundreds of people who have committed to learn Spanish for personal and professional reasons.

Only five states require high school students to take a class about money #financial #literacy #classes

Only five states require high school students to take a class about money

Most American teens are not learning in high school about the basics of paying bills, building good credit and avoiding debt, even as they’re increasingly relying on student loans to finance their higher education, according to a new financial literacy study.

Just five states in the country scored an A on the 2015 National Report Card on State Efforts to Improve Financial Literacy in High Schools. a report produced by the Center for Financial Literacy, at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. The report measures financial education efforts across the U.S.

The five states that got an A are the only ones in the country that require students take a dedicated semester of personal finance courses. Nearly a quarter of the states received a failing grade. Those states have, according to the report, virtually no requirements for teaching financial literacy at the high school level.

In lieu of high school classes, teens have to rely on their parents or simply their own research and experience to pick up these lessons — or never get them at all. That lack of sound financial advice is particularly problematic when so many students take on loans to attend college.

John Pelletier, director of the Center for Financial Literacy and the author of the report, said he’s walked into high school classrooms where the bulk of students believe their chosen career will make them at least $100,000 a year.

“You can see how people, based on that flawed analysis, think that they can afford $70,000, $80,000 or $90,000 in debt,” he said. “What needs to be taught is more career exploration, more understanding about income.”

Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and Virginia all scored an A for their financial literacy education programs. That means these states require at least the equivalent of one semester of personal finance education in their high schools.

Utah is the only state to receive an A+. Students there are required to take a semester of personal finance course and take an assessment on what they’ve learned that’s created and administered by the state. Educators who teach the personal finance course also receive special training on topics like financial planning and credit and investing.

The states that received an F — which include California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania — have minimal or no requirements for personal finance education. High-school students in these states can graduate without ever encountering a financial literacy course.

The Center for Financial Literacy released its first report card 2013. Since then, the research and grading methodology changed slightly so it’s hard to say definitively whether the state of financial literacy education has improved nationwide over the past two years, Pelletier said.

But he noted that some states clearly have improved their personal finance education in the past two years. Alabama received an F on the 2013 scorecard, but received an A this year after implementing a requirement that all high schoolers take a career preparedness course, which includes elements of personal finance.

“It’s not an apples-to-apples comparison but I can certainly point to a variety of states where they have moved in the right direction,” Pelletier said.

Seventeen year-olds may also just not have a good understanding of what they’re agreeing to when they sign on to their student loans. Nearly a third of white student loan borrowers under the age of 50, and about half of black and Hispanic student loan borrowers the same age said they would have found a different way to finance their education if they could make their borrowing decision again, according to a July survey from the Pew Charitable Trusts.

And parents can’t necessarily be relied upon to provide their children with sound financial advice at this crucial time, Pelletier said.

For one, they may be uncomfortable talking about money; parents were slightly more likely to have a plan in place to talk to their children about alcohol and drugs than about finances, according to a 2014 survey from T. Rowe Price.

What’s more, most American adults aren’t exactly setting examples of pristine financial behavior. More than 60% of adults don’t have a financial cushion for emergencies, according to a recent survey from personal finance site

While that low savings rate is likely explained in part by the Great Recession, which decimated Americans’ wealth, it may also be because American adults have a poor understanding of good financial hygiene.

“When you look at the adult behavior, you can’t help but wonder whether or not these adults are doing a good job teaching their children,” said Pelletier.

Given all of this, there’s reason to think teens could use more information from trusted sources on how to make the best financial decisions, particularly as they prepare to stare down thousands of dollars in debt.

But the research is mixed on whether high school personal finance or financial literacy courses is the best way to go about doing that, said Gauri Kartini Shastri, an economics professor at Wellesley College.

There’s some evidence to indicate that state-mandated financial education can improve young adults credit scores. But Shastry and colleagues at Harvard Business School and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago found in a forthcoming paper that state requirements to mandate the teaching of personal finance courses in high school have no effect on adults’ savings levels, credit scores, bankruptcy rates or total financial assets. More math classes on the other hand do have an effect on financial outcomes, the researchers found.

It’s hard to say why exactly that is, but one possibility is because people who are more comfortable with math may feel more confident comparing loan terms or figuring out how much to set aside in savings, Shastry said. “A lot of these finance questions could really be a math question,” she said.

General math principles may also be more effective because high-school students struggle to absorb and remember personal finance lessons they won’t use for months or years down the line.

“It’s hard for me to talk to my college students about retirement savings,” Shastry said.

Online Lift up your career through RN schools and programs

With job opportunities expected to increase and options available for a broad range of specializations, the field of registered nursing could provide you with a rewarding career. While many registered nurses work in hospitals or physician’s offices, others work in home health care settings, for companies making home visits to clients and in other atypical situations.

Whatever you choose, specialization could be the key to finding work following graduation from one of the RN programs. Unique work situations aren’t the only way to build your niche in the field. You could also specialize in a specific area during your training with one of the RN schools. For example, you could seek the education and clinical experience to allow you to work as an occupational or trauma nurse afterward.

Advanced education is another way to distinguish yourself. While RN schools allow you to seek certification following graduation, a master’s degree could open up other fields to you. As a nurse with a master’s degree, you would be an advanced practice nurse, or APN, and could seek opportunities in occupations such as clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, or nurse-midwife.

Follow up your RN schools education with certification

Training to become an RN begins with a diploma, associate degree or bachelor’s degree program. However, upon completion of the program, you will also need to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. Passing will allow you to seek certification in your state. However, if your background training is not comprehensive enough, you might be unprepared to pass. Degree programs should require you do complete clinicals as part of your training. These clinicals provide hands-on experience in a variety of settings and can test your mettle as far as preparation.

Wage estimates for graduates of RN programs

Once you’ve graduated from one of the RN schools and achieved your certification, you are ready to start work in the field. Your career path could take you through a variety of settings, but you should earn competitive wages. According to May 2009 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses employed nationwide earned mean annual wages of $66,530. On top of that, career opportunities are projected to grow in the RN field during the 2008 to 2018 decade, according to the BLS. The sector’s job growth of 22 percent is considered much faster than average by the BLS.

    Small classes, big money #free #online #mba #classes

    Small classes, big money

EUROPE’S business schools have had their problems in recent years. Recession on the continent made them less attractive to foreigners. So did Britain’s tough new visa requirements for students, which include restrictions on those who can stay and work in the country after graduation—an essential consideration for those taking an MBA. As a result, many European programmes—even quite prestigious ones—found it harder to fill their courses.

But as Europe’s economy has recovered, so has the attractiveness of its business schools. They have always held certain advantages over their competitors across the Atlantic. Perhaps foremost among them is that their graduates often earn more money. Students graduating from HEC Paris, for example, earn more than those from Chicago: $124,000 compared with $115,000. This is partly because they also tend to be older with more work experience.

They also tend to be more geographically diverse. At London Business School, only 36% of full-time students are from Europe, while 27% come from North or South America and 28% from Asia and Australasia. This is another reason why European schools often perform well in the “increase in salary” component in our ranking. At the top-ranked European school, IESE in Spain (pictured), many students leave relatively low paid jobs in South America and Asia, but land high-paying ones in cities such as London and Frankfurt once they have completed their MBA. Indeed the average IESE graduate can expect his salary to have increased by 153% upon leaving the programme.

All of that said, European programmes do still lag behind their American counterparts in some key measures. Students’ GMAT scores are usually lower and, as they lack their US cousins’ financial clout, their facilities and careers services are very often inferior. In other ways, they might be considered neither better nor worse, only different. As their intakes are usually much smaller, they can feel more intimate; cohorts are more closely bound and student:teacher ratios lower. But scale has its benefits too. Bigger schools can offer more electives and wider alumni networks. As we never tire of pointing out, when choosing an MBA the most important thing is not which school ranks highest, but which school is best suited to you.

Chaffey College Fast Track Classes #chaffey #online #classes

    About Fast Track

Chaffey College began the journey toward accelerated classes in the spring of 2010. Some of the members of the Enrollment and Success Management Committee were familiar with the movement in California initiated by the successes of English students documented at Chabot College. As part of the decision about moving forward with acceleration, the Committee explored the research from Chabot as well as reports from the Institutional Research Office of Chaffey’s neighbor, Citrus College. In the fall of 2010, an English instructor from Citrus visited the Committee to share the pitfalls and triumphs of acceleration that had been experienced at Citrus.

While the research and experiences of colleagues were a determining factor in Chaffey’s acceleration story, the other determining factor was the Enrollment and Success Management’s decision to explore the efficacy of moving the late registration deadline from the third week to the beginning of the second week. In practice and philosophy, the policy of allowing students to enroll after three weeks of instruction had passed seemed opposed to a success and learning-oriented philosophy, and internal research supported the sense that such a practice seemed to correlate to higher incidents of failure. Institutional Research verified this conclusion through internal data collection, and the Enrollment and Success Management Committee acted on changing the last day to a point closer to the date instruction begins. So acceleration opportunities also became a way to offer students multiple access points during the semester given that they would no longer be able to add courses after three weeks beginning fall 2011, while simultaneously acting as well as a way to move students more successfully through a sequence.

In the spring of 2011, Chaffey offered approximately 50 accelerated courses ranging from English, Spanish, math, and ESL to Astronomy and Biology. In some cases, courses are packaged so that students can move through two levels within a sequence during just one semester. In other cases, courses were planned so that students could access alternative starting points or choose accelerated courses because they better fit their schedules or their learning needs.

Chaffey has also begun experimentation in accelerated review course in mathematics. The first course of this kind, Math 610, is designed for students who assessed into arithmetic but believe that with review, their assessment may better reflect their knowledge. After three weeks of intensive instruction, students take a 6 week intermediate algebra course and then move on to complete college algebra.

To date, the curriculum was either designed at inception as an accelerated learning opportunity or existing curriculum offered in an accelerated format. Given the eagerness of faculty to explore the option, this was the easiest way to begin. With a little experience, more faculty are interested, and discussions about pedagogical change and curriculum modifications have begun. Accelerated learning has also developed into what Chaffey College calls its Fast Track program, emphasizing the students’ ability to achieve quickly. The College is also exploring the use of Supplemental Instruction leaders in accelerated classes as the infrastructure around acceleration continues to evolve.

Despite the caution of some of the faculty who initially engaged the accelerated formats, most have discovered some of the same benefits that faculty of other colleges extol in their accelerated teaching experiences. Melissa Utsler, English instructor, noted that she has never loved teaching so much. Emily Avila, Biology instructor, taught an accelerated version and a traditional version of Biology 1. The acceleration class not only increased success by 20%, but they were more cohesive and engaged that her traditional class. She stated that the students developed a strong bond and were more supportive of each other than [she] had ever seen before.

Here are the statistics from Emily’s biology class:

In addition, the internal research on acceleration is consistent with that of other colleges who are implementing these options.

    Spring 2011 Semester

For fall 2011, Chaffey scheduled over 70 accelerated courses across the disciplines. As Chaffey faculty prepare to teach accelerated courses for the first time, the Faculty Success Center is offering a variety of professional development opportunities for collaboration and preparation. Additionally, Institutional Research is surveying current students to determine factors that seem to correlate between acceleration and student success. From this information, the college will develop a diagnostic instrument that can be used by counselors or students to help determine if acceleration are right for them.

    Medical Terminology and Medical Billing #medical #billing #classes #nyc

    Medical Terminology and Medical Billing

Professional medical billers have mastered the specialized language of medical code, and this code is based on the language of medicine. Medical billers and medical coders need to comfortable using and understanding medical terms in order to apply the correct codes to describe services delivered to patients.

Medical language is precise. Each of the specialized words has a specific meaning so that health care providers can communicate their exact observations and prescriptions. The definitions of each code are written for trained professionals rather than for laypeople. It is expected that the people who use medical code fully understand the foundation on which the codes are based.

Both the International Classification of Diseases-9th Edition-Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) and the Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) specify that the code used must match its definition, based on the documentation in the medical record.

Medical coding is the art of translating the information contained in the medical record into a sequence of abstract numbers and letters, each sequence carrying a specific meaning. With proper training, professional medical billers and certified medical coders perform this translation accurately and efficiently.

    Basics of Medical Terminology

Many of the words used by physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers consist of Greek and Latin root words that are combined to create a multi-syllabic term that carries a precise meaning.

“Hepato-” is the Greek for the liver. “Megaly” is based on the Latin word for greatly enlarged. A patient diagnosed with hepatomegaly is someone who has been found to have an abnormally large liver.

In medical terms, a heart attack is a myocardial infarction. Myocardium means “heart muscle”, and the word infarction comes from the Latin “infacire” which means to clog. A myocardial infarction means that the artery supplying the heart muscle is clogged, preventing oxygen from reaching it. This is contrast to angina, which is heart pain in which the muscle is not totally deprived of oxygenated blood. It is also different from ventricular fibrillation, which is a condition caused by the heart’s electrical conduction.

While a medical biller or coder knows what a layperson means when they say that someone has suffered a heart attack, this term means nothing for coding or billing purposes. Medical terminology precisely defines a condition. Professional medical billers are able to understand the specifics of this terminology in order to communicate it to third-party payers for accurate reimbursement.

    Anatomical Terminology

Every part of the human anatomy has been named. Healthcare providers memorize the various arcane terms to know exactly what part of the body is being discussed. The malleolus is the bony part on the side of the ankle. The radius and the ulna are the two long bones in the lower arm. The Islets of Langerhans are specialized structures located in the kidneys. The spine is divided into four parts: cervical spine, thoracic spine, dorsal lumbar spine, sacral spine. The sacral spine is made up of the sacrum and the coccyx.

To say that someone had a spinal injury does not provide enough information for a medical biller to assign codes for reporting purposes. Nor does it tell a healthcare provider enough to formulate a treatment plan or communicate a meaningful diagnosis to another provider. A more accurate description, in medical terminology would be to say, “idiopathic fraction L4-L5 with nerve impingement.” This is the kind of terminology medical billers and medical coders encounter in their daily work day.

    Procedural Terminology

The HCPCS system makes a point to state that the codes provided must meet the the definition specified in the code book. Not all procedures are alike. For instance, a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is different from a transurethral needle ablation of the prostate (TUNA), and both are different from transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT), or robotic prostate resection. A professional medical biller recognizes the difference between these procedures and assigns the appropriate HCPCS code when they are performed.

A hematoxylin and eosin stain does not carry its own code, it is considered an integral part of a surgical pathology examination, and for this reason it is included in the codes for those procedures. Special stains, such as a gram-stain to identify bacteria, or a immunohistochemistry stain to identify antigens, are not routinely performed unless a pathologist needs additional information to provide a complete diagnosis. Medical billers in the pathology field understand the difference between all the different services this specialized branch of medicine provides, and which codes to use to describe them.

    Medical Adjectives

Bilateral means something occurs on both sides of the body, while unilateral means that it occurs only on one side. The inferior aspect of the foot is the sole, while the superior aspect of the head is the top. The ascending colon is on the right side of a patient’s body, while the descending colon is on the patient’s left. They are connected by the transverse colon.

Specialized adjectives are used to paint an accurate picture of where and the patient’s condition is located, as well as how it is treated. Medications can be delivered topically, orally, rectally, vaginally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously. Each of these routes carry their own codes, as do the medications themselves.

A benign neoplasm is a self-contained tumor, while a malignant neoplasm is a tumor that is likely to spread to other parts of the body. Both of them are cancers, but medical billers need to know the difference between a benign tumor and a malignant one, as well as the definition of a metastatic tumor. This additional information affects the diagnostic coding, and it effects the procedural coding. Skin biopsies of benign, malignant, and uncertain lesions all carry their own codes.

    Medical Abbreviations

BPH is medical shorthand for benign prostatic hypertrophy. A myocardial infarction that happened this morning is documented in the medical record as an acute MI. Not all medical abbreviations are so straightforward. NPO means “nothing by mouth,” which is a literal translation from the Latin, “nil per os.” With so many long words, and obscure words, to document in a patient’s medical record, standardized abbreviations have been developed so that healthcare providers can document the patient’s condition efficiently.

Medical billers who review medical records need to be familiar with the meanings of the abbreviations and terms used regularly in patient care. An order for NPO does not affect coding. Certified medical coders and professional medical billers recognize this, and they do not waste time figuring out which information is important to assemble a medical bill, and which information is important for nursing care. This is not to say that professional medical billers and certified medical coders have memorized every word and abbreviation used in every medical specialty. They use references effectively to accurately translate the patient’s medical record into code, and they are able to converse with healthcare providers in the language of medicine.

    Uses of Medical Terminology

Medical billers and medical coders rely on their codebooks, medical dictionaries, and medical policy determinations to assign codes appropriately. These books are written in the specialized terminology of medicine with the understanding that the people who use them will be familiar with the terms and concepts. Without appropriate training, it is impossible for a layperson to make much sense of the coding system. This does not mean that medical coding and billing are complicated, only that it assumes a familiarity with the terminology used to describe medical procedures and conditions.

Without a grounding in medical terminology, professional medical billers and certified medical coders cannot perform their jobs well. That is why graduating from a formal program of study is important to employers. Being able to understand the language of medicine ensures that medical bills are accurate, reducing legal exposure to charges of fraud and abuse of the healthcare reimbursement system. Being able to speak the language of medicine with licensed healthcare providers helps to ensure that medical services, and the reasons for which they are performed, are accurate, and that they satisfy the burden of medical necessity to justify prompt payment at reasonable and customary rates.

    Preparatory – Tyger Valley College #college #preparatory #classes

    Mr Gavin Langley Principal’s message

Our children are most privileged to function within an environment where they are constantly exposed to a range of activities and pursuits which will ultimately prepare them for ‘their future’. In the classroom, a strong work ethic and the ability to think deeply, reason and create is an integral part of any lesson. In our brief history, we have celebrated many sporting successes.

Our swimming culture continues to grow in reputation and other sporting codes – football, hockey and equestrian – are proudly flying our school’s flag. Annually our Grade 3 to 6 children spend time away from home on camp where they are exposed to nature and introduced to independence and the value of functioning within a team. Our senior teams are rewarded for their dedication and commitment to our school sport by virtue of tours which are fast becoming an established tradition.

Performing arts, music and culture are celebrated pillars of our school. Many of our children are learning to play a musical instrument, our choirs are growing in number and esteem, and we are annually staging a school production at Tyger Valley with great success and rave review.

Outreach remains fundamental to the ethos of any school and Tyger Valley Preparatory embraces this pillar of our school at every opportunity. Whether creating awareness as to the plight of our endangered rhino, supporting local schools and disadvantaged communities or feeding and caring for abandoned pets, our children are developing a healthy social conscience from a very early age.

An encounter with a Tyger Valley Preparatory child will always be a pleasing experience. They are quite simply ‘happy children’ who enjoy the supportive and nurturing environment of our fine school and community. We always arrive at school with a contented smile and depart after a long day with a good story to share.

The African proverb that says, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, most certainly rings true in the context of the Preparatory school at Tyger Valley College. We are blessed with a team of talented teachers and passionate parents who truly ‘live the difference’ at our proud school. This ensures that the school motto, ‘Through enjoyment to excellence’ pervades every aspect of a child’s life at Tyger Valley.

Tyger Valley College follows the National Curriculum Statement. As from 2013, we implemented the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement or CAPS. This document or policy was developed for implementation nationally by the Education Department with various role players, among others the IEB and ISASA contributing significantly. It outlines the necessary skills and outcomes which should be mastered by pupils in order to progress to the next grade. These skills and outcomes are called Assessment Standards and schools are given a list for each grade. Teachers are expected to teach these skills and outcomes to pupils and to assess whether or not they have achieved the necessary outcomes. The way in which this content is taught is key.
At Tyger Valley College we strive not only to educate, but also to differentiate for various learning styles, to remediate and to extend on the curriculum where we recognise that our pupils are more advanced than the basic requirement, as outlined in the Junior Preparatory Phase Policy.
In order to do this, teachers first take the list of grade appropriate assessment standards and divide them from easiest to most challenging for the grade into 3 terms. Usually there are 10 assessment standards per subject per term, thus 10 for English, 10 for Mathematics and 10 for Life Skills. Teachers meet and together they devise a term plan. Themes are chosen and these themes are taught across the curriculum which means that the theme is incorporated into English, Mathematics and Life Skills.
Once the term plan is complete it is decided how each assessment standard will be taught according to the theme. Some work is taught intensively for a week and then it is revised incidentally for the rest of the year and some work is taught and practised for longer periods.
In Mathematics, basic Maths concepts are taught and then extended upon as the year progresses to meet the necessary requirements by the end of the year. In English, the Time to Read program is built upon from the basic code of spelling that our pupils are taught in Grade 0. These pupils are able to sound basic words, know the phonetic sounds of the alphabet and are able to read phrases. In Grade 1 this is built upon after a revision period until pupils can read with confidence, intonation and expression, they are able to write sentences and creative passages and answer simple comprehension questions. By Grade 3, pupils complete exercises in a Guided Reading book, dedicated solely for comprehension and other Literacy extension exercises. In Life Skills, all aspects of the pupils’ school work are assessed and theme work is done and assessed. This is done in the form of surveys, short oral presentations and fun, guided projects. Aspects that are vital to academic and social success are also assessed like behaviour, responsibility, work speed and focus.
Assessments are done throughout the year. At least 3 assessments are done per assessment standard which means that your child will do an assessment about the same concept 3 times and an average will be taken. Some concepts are taught but not assessed. These are concepts that are not part of the basic and vital concepts of a learning area and will be covered in Grade 2 and 3.
The CAPS document is available on-line and we are confident that when a curriculum audit is done by Umalusi or IQAA, TVC will be on par with the standards they require. Umalusi and IQAA are the national quality assurance bodies for Educational Institutions nationwide.

The Senior Preparatory Phase (SP) encompasses Grades 4 to 6, and currently consists of 4 classes for each of these Grades, each accommodating a maximum of 25 pupils.
The SP is managed by a Phase Head directly responsible to the Principal, and is staffed by highly qualified and experienced educators, motivated not only by their love for children but also by their passion for education.
We believe that the empowerment and potential for success brought about by a holistic approach to education such as the one offered here at Tyger Valley College, is the inalienable right of every child. This approach focuses not only on the acquisition of subject knowledge, but also on the development of both practical and life skills, values and attitudes characteristic of a joyful, well-adjusted, productive and successful future member of the South African- and indeed the international community.
The stimulating and challenging academic curriculum, based on the National Curriculum Statement, has been developed and refined by our expert educators to prepare all our pupils for the rigors and challenges of academic life after Grade 6 and even beyond their years at the College.
The curriculum includes the following learning areas: English (first language), Afrikaans (second language), Mathematics, Natural Science, Technology, Geography, History, Life Orientation and Art and Craft. In addition, each pupil also attends computer and physical education lessons on a weekly basis.
Pupils requiring additional academic and/or emotional support are referred to our in-house Academic Enrichment Centre (AEC), where our expert remedial educators and school psychologists assist and encourage them.
Our afternoon programme includes compulsory sports and cultural activities four days a week (Monday-Thursday), and a daily voluntary 1 hour homework and preparation session.
When all is said and done however, nothing indicates the success of the work done in the Senior Preparatory better than the smiles on the faces of our pupils and the laughter, happiness and good cheer that abounds in the classrooms, on the corridors and on the playground.

The College offers an integrated school day, with the traditional academic school day being augmented by homework preparation sessions as well as sports and cultural activity sessions.
Each learner will participate in ONE activity every day from Mondays to Thursdays, and must participate in AT LEAST ONE sporting and ONE cultural activity each week. These activities will vary according to the seasons. The choice of these activities is made at the start of each term.

On Fridays, no homework- or activity sessions are offered.

Times for the different departments within the College are as follows:

To really understand web design, you need to learn HTML hand-coding; it s easier than you think!

Why learning HTML and CSS makes sense.

Web design apps like Dreamweaver are fine, but if you want to be able to build modern responsive HTML5 based websites, then these apps will get in the way of you learning (because you have to learn the app on top of the code) and will actually slow you down!

Learning to build your web sites using HTML will give you far better control over the process, and ultimately your web sites. On top of that, you will have a far deeper understanding of the web, and as a result you will create better websites quicker much quicker.

    Step 1/2

    Online classes are better

Why should I take online classes?

It s becoming harder and harder to get a really good job without having some type of college degree. but if you have been working at the same dead-end job for a couple of years, it might be difficult for you to find a better job. You can increase your chances of getting a better position by taking online classes.

Online classes are becoming a popular alternative to the typical collegiate experience. This is because of the increasing easiness of these online classes to fit into the busy schedules of adults with families and jobs. Most online classes are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week so that students can learn the material on their own schedule. This benefits a number of people who have employment obligations and financial commitments that cannot fall to the wayside for two to four years of schooling. Being able to take your college class online will make it easier for you to still work full time and go to school.

Online classes are catered to you

Online classes are taught at many different levels, so students can receive professional certificates, Associate s, Bachelor s, or Master s Degrees. There are many subject levels taught at these different levels, so if a student is interested in Business courses or Healthcare courses, they can choose how deeply to delve.

Online classes generally go faster than the average class because the student is learning at their own pace. If some of the subject matter is difficult for the student, then it is possible to take as much time as possible to get a steady grasp on the material. Similarly if a student has an innate or previous relationship with the material, then they can expedite the learning process for a particular section.

    Join an online class today!

Online classes are also ideal for many students because they are less of a financial burden on an individual or a family. It is possible to pay for the online classes on a per-credit basis, which is cheaper in the long run. You won t have to worry about not being able to handle your financial obligations. You should also apply for financial aid to help pay for your online classes. The school you choose might give you a loan or a scholarship and if you do get a loan, you might not have to pay it until you graduate.

Maybe you have a family, a job, or other responsibilities and you can’t take on life as a full-time student. Maybe you love new technology and new ways of learning. In any case, you need to know how to play the system.

The following is excerpted from The Edupunks Guide, a free ebook
by Fast Company senior writer Anya Kamenetz. You can download the PDF here and a plain-text ereader version here. For more on edupunk, watch the DIY U video here .
