Hospital CEO Salaries
Salary figures vary wildly depending on experience, location, and employer. Here are some links to various resources concerning CEO salaries.

Hospital CEOs
Hospital CEOs generally come from a medical background and almost always hold a Masters of Hospital or Healthcare Administration. Prior to becoming CEOs, they must have about 8-10 years of experience in administrative, management and healthcare positions. The hospital CEO is the highest ranking official in the hospital organization, and he or she also has the toughest job.

What do Hospital CEOs Do?
Hospital CEOs are responsible for overseeing day to day operations, serving as moral leaders who articulate the hospital s mission and vision to the public community, and being the leaders in developing strategic vision and policies for the hospital. The CEO usually works alongside a team consisting of the CNO (Chief Nursing Officer), CMO (Chief Medical Officer), COO (Chief Operating Officer) and the CFO (Chief Financial Officer )- this is the hospital s executive management team.

How do Hospital CEOs get to where they are?
In studying this list of 20 New Hospital CEOs to Know . it seems that most of the CEOs have a couple things in common:

  • They held a Masters in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or Nursing from an accredited university.
  • They held previous positions in strategic management, business and executive leadership. (Meaning medical expertise isn t all CEOs need to have!)
  • They had about 15 or more years of experience in healthcare before they became the CEOs of major hospitals. (Patience is a must.)

However, Christian colleges offer many benefits like mentorship, activities to deepen your faith, study-abroad programs, student clubs and organizations, and service-learning opportunities. Although many of College Choice s top Christian colleges offer chapel services, campus ministry, and spiritual resources, in some cases they are not required.

When you go to a Christian college, you are likely to engage high-quality faculty members. A Patheos article argues, “Most Christian colleges put their best people in the classroom with students. They may make less use of part-time faculty or graduates students…” 2 http://www.patheos.com/blogs/philosophicalfragments/2013/02/26/why-attend-christian-college-why-not/

What Are the Best Christian Colleges?

The range of Christian colleges indicates the diversity, variety, and differences within the term Christianity. Accredited Online Medical Coding Training, medical billing and coding colleges.

#Medical #billing #and #coding #colleges

Accredited Online Medical Coding Training Guide for 2018

Medical billers and coders perform an important role in medical offices. They convert different health issues and the medical treatments for those issues. These codes are a simple way for medical offices to communicate information to health insurance companies when they are billed for the health services that were provided to their client.

A medical billing degree is available in the form of associate degrees or certificate, whether you participate in a traditional program or earn a medical coding degree online.

If you want to begin a career as a medical coder, you should be aware that the best programs are accredited by either the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or as the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). It is also possible to earn an education at the certificate and associate degree levels. No matter what level of education you earn, it is a good idea to become certified in the field as well. Check the Guide to Accreditation in Higher Education to learn more about accreditation and how to determine if the program you select meets the necessary standards.

TABLE of CONTENTS

Degrees

An education in medical billing and coding prepares you to be an integral part of the healthcare system. You will learn to apply special codes to different illnesses and treatment procedures in order to make the process of billing patients easier for physician’s offices and insurance companies.

Medical coding does not require extended formal education before you can begin a job. Although you can earn a traditional or online degree, you can also qualify for jobs in this field without a degree if you become a certified medical biller and coder. Even the best medical billing degree online and traditional programs only offer associate degrees, since this is considered the highest level of education in the field. If you choose not to earn a medical billing online degree or complete a degree from a brick-and-mortar school, it is a good idea to complete a certification program. Having some education, like a certificate, will greatly improve your job prospects. If you decide to pursue an associate degree or certificate, you can either learn through traditional programs or get your medical billing and coding degree online.

Certificate in Medical Coding

Before a medical employer hires you to organize and manage their patients’ healthcare information, they usually want to be sure that you have at least a certificate from an accredited program. You can earn an accredited medical coding certificate online or through a traditional classroom-based program. Earning your medical billing certificate costs less money and takes less time than earning an associate degree because it offers a smaller number of focused classes.

  • Credit hours/length of study: 15-18 credit hours
  • Coursework: medical billing, medical coding, administrative processes, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; in some cases, an internship to practice skills
  • Employment prospects: entry-level medical coding or medical billing

Associate Degree in Medical Coding

An associate degree is the highest level of education that you can earn in this field. It is considered the premier education for people who are interested in a medical coding career. Therefore, your job prospects will be greatly improved if you are willing to earn an associate degree instead of halting your education after earning a certificate or completing a professional exam preparation course.

  • Credit hours/length of study: 60-65 credit hours
  • Coursework: clinical classification systems, insurance procedures, anatomy and medical terminology
  • Employment prospects: medical coder or biller, possibly in a supervisory role

Four for-profit colleges in South Florida will forgive loans to students who dropped out, under a legal settlement.

Four for-profit colleges in South Florida will forgive loans to students who dropped out, under a legal settlement.

Some students who dropped out of four for-profit colleges in South Florida won’t have to pay back loans they took out from the schools.

The schools are the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, the Miami International University of Art Design, South University in West Palm Beach and Brown Mackie College in downtown Miami and Miramar. The arrangement applies to students who quit within 45 days of the start of courses from 2006 to 2014

The colleges’ parent company agreed to forgive the loans as well as allow students 21 days to withdraw with no financial obligation. The changes were part of settlements to a whistleblower lawsuit and an investigation alleging that school representatives had made fraudulent claims to entice people to enroll.

Pittsburgh-based Education Management Corp. denied any wrongdoing. But putting these matters behind us returns our focus to educating students, said its president and CEO, Mark A. McEachen.

About 4,550 former students in Florida are eligible for loan forgiveness, said Chris S. Hardman, a spokesman for Education Management. He said he didn’t know how many of them are in South Florida.

The company will forgive more than $6.5 million in loans statewide. Nationwide, the agreement requires Education Management to forgive more than $100 million in outstanding loans held by more than 80,000 former students.

Four of Education Management’s seven Florida colleges are in Broward, Palm Beach or Miami-Dade counties.

The four will continue to operate and accept students, Hardman said. There are no changes to campuses as a result of the settlements, he said in an email.

The company will send notices to former students who qualify for loan forgiveness as well as to credit reporting agencies, according to the Florida Attorney General’s Office, which joined in the lawsuit against Education Management.

People who want to see whether they qualify for Education Management’s student loan forgiveness can call 855-725-4301.

Students still have to pay back any federal student loans, according to the court settlement.

Education Management also worked with state attorneys general to develop new, more transparent recruiting and disclosure standards, which the company hopes will serve as a model for higher education, according to a company statement.

Education Management’s schools will provide online financial disclosure tools to help students understand the cost of their educations. The schools also will provide free orientation programs for incoming students and supply accurate information about graduates’ job placement.

    Bachelor of Science in Zoology

A bachelor’s degree program in zoology includes in-depth and hands-on study of animals, plants, and marine life through laboratory classes in biology and chemistry. Additionally, universities require zoology students to dedicate a large amount of time to field work; given this, degree programs in zoology aren’t generally offered fully online. However, some schools offer a small selection of core courses through distance learning.

    Program Information and Requirements

Students enrolled in a degree program in zoology, which typically takes four years, must take most of their courses on campus since many have a laboratory component along with a lecture section. Zoology curricula involve hands-on interaction with animals in which students learn caretaking and safe handling procedures, as well as laboratory studies involving the analysis and study of the biological and chemical makeup of animals and plants.

While most classes must be completed on campus, some basic science courses are offered online. To pursue at-home study, candidates need access to a computer and the Internet, preferably high-speed. A program for viewing online audio and video presentations is required. Word processing and printing capabilities are also needed for certain classes.

    Course Topics

Zoology programs entail significant study in the biological and chemical sciences. Other areas of study include mathematics and physics.

    Ecology

Students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in zoology take a course in basic ecology, which is offered online by certain schools. This course covers plant and animal interactions with the environment, community and ecosystem ecology, population principles and global sustainability.

    Genetics

This online course covers the basic principles of heredity in animals, plants and microorganisms. Students also learn about gene structure, gene transmission and evolution.

    Neurobiology

A class in neurobiology is available online by some schools to third and fourth year students. Students learn about the function and structure of nerve cells and nervous systems.

    Career Information

The BLS has projected four percent job growth for zoologists and wildlife biologists over the 2014-2024 decade, slower than the average for all occupations (www.bls.gov ). Increased awareness and the need for scientists to study and help with the growing number of environmental concerns have led to an influx of jobs in this field, but these jobs may fluctuate with the economy. As of May 2015, the BLS reported a median annual salary of $59,680 for zoologists and wildlife biologists.

Some possible career paths for bachelor’s degree graduates include animal caretaker, biology assistant, park naturalist, veterinary technician and zookeeper. The following table reflects BLS data on some of these careers.

Online Lift up your career through RN schools and programs

With job opportunities expected to increase and options available for a broad range of specializations, the field of registered nursing could provide you with a rewarding career. While many registered nurses work in hospitals or physician’s offices, others work in home health care settings, for companies making home visits to clients and in other atypical situations.

Whatever you choose, specialization could be the key to finding work following graduation from one of the RN programs. Unique work situations aren’t the only way to build your niche in the field. You could also specialize in a specific area during your training with one of the RN schools. For example, you could seek the education and clinical experience to allow you to work as an occupational or trauma nurse afterward.

Advanced education is another way to distinguish yourself. While RN schools allow you to seek certification following graduation, a master’s degree could open up other fields to you. As a nurse with a master’s degree, you would be an advanced practice nurse, or APN, and could seek opportunities in occupations such as clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, or nurse-midwife.

Follow up your RN schools education with certification

Training to become an RN begins with a diploma, associate degree or bachelor’s degree program. However, upon completion of the program, you will also need to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. Passing will allow you to seek certification in your state. However, if your background training is not comprehensive enough, you might be unprepared to pass. Degree programs should require you do complete clinicals as part of your training. These clinicals provide hands-on experience in a variety of settings and can test your mettle as far as preparation.

Wage estimates for graduates of RN programs

Once you’ve graduated from one of the RN schools and achieved your certification, you are ready to start work in the field. Your career path could take you through a variety of settings, but you should earn competitive wages. According to May 2009 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses employed nationwide earned mean annual wages of $66,530. On top of that, career opportunities are projected to grow in the RN field during the 2008 to 2018 decade, according to the BLS. The sector’s job growth of 22 percent is considered much faster than average by the BLS.

    • 4 [Functions] | Five Functions of Management Leading

Planning helps an organization chart a course for the achievement of its goals. The process begins with reviewing the current operations of the organization and identifying what needs to be improved operationally in the upcoming year. From there, planning involves envisioning the results the organization wants to achieve, and determining the steps necessary to arrive at the intended destination–success, whether that is measured in financial terms, or goals that include being the highest-rated organization in customer satisfaction.

    Efficient Use of Resources

All organizations, large and small, have limited resources. The planning process provides the information top management needs to make effective decisions about how to allocate the resources in a way that will enable the organization to reach its objectives. Productivity is maximized and resources are not wasted on projects with little chance of success.

    Establishing Goals

Setting goals that challenge everyone in the organization to strive for better performance is one of the key aspects of the planning process. Goals must be aggressive, but realistic. Organizations cannot allow themselves to become too satisfied with how they are currently doing–or they are likely to lose ground to competitors. The goal setting process can be a wake-up call for managers that have become complacent. The other benefit of goal setting comes when forecast results are compared to actual results. Organizations analyze significant variances from forecast and take action to remedy situations where revenues were lower than plan or expenses higher.

    Managing Risk And Uncertainty

Managing risk is essential to an organization s success. Even the largest corporations cannot control the economic and competitive environment around them. Unforeseen events occur that must be dealt with quickly, before negative financial consequences from these events become severe. Planning encourages the development of what-if scenarios, where managers attempt to envision possible risk factors and develop contingency plans to deal with them. The pace of change in business is rapid, and organizations must be able to rapidly adjust their strategies to these changing conditions.

    Team Building

Planning promotes team building and a spirit of cooperation. When the plan is completed and communicated to members of the organization, everyone knows what their responsibilities are, and how other areas of the organization need their assistance and expertise in order to complete assigned tasks. They see how their work contributes to the success of the organization as a whole and can take pride in their contributions. Potential conflict can be reduced when top management solicits department or division managers input during the goal setting process. Individuals are less likely to resent budgetary targets when they had a say in their creation.

    Creating Competitive Advantages

Planning helps organizations get a realistic view of their current strengths and weaknesses relative to major competitors. The management team sees areas where competitors may be vulnerable and then crafts marketing strategies to take advantage of these weaknesses. Observing competitors actions can also help organizations identify opportunities they may have overlooked, such as emerging international markets or opportunities to market products to completely different customer groups.

This online tool will assist the Raiders coaches as well as the student athlete and their family with contacting colleges, creating an online profile, as well as tracking emails and responses. Please refer to your email announcement for additional information regarding registering.

    Here s SoftballRecruits press release.

CONCORD, MA October, 2016 Raiders Softball and SoftballRecruits have reached an agreement on a club integration, it was announced today. As part of the agreement, Raiders Softball staff and players will receive access to the innovative suite of tools provided by the recruiting platform. By incorporating the SportsRecruits platform, said Lisa McGloin, President and Head Coach. We can bring players a new level of ease and success in their recruiting efforts. We are extremely excited to integrate with SportsRecruits. The recruiting process will be easier, more consistent, and more informative. Our organizational goals have always been to help our athletes compete at the highest level possible. Utilization of SportsRecruits will elevate the level of assistance our organization can provide for our players, so that they can realize all of their hard work and their goals of becoming collegiate softball players.

A streamlined process is the key to successful college recruiting, and this is exactly what the SportsRecruits platform provides.

SoftballRecruits is a technology solution that automatically organizes the recruiting process for club staff and players. With SoftballRecruits, players share their athletic stats, academic transcripts, event schedule and video. The Built-In Messaging System connects the club to every college coach in the country.

    A Unified Recruiting Solution

In the saturated recruiting space, it is important for players to set themselves apart. Raiders Softball recognized in SoftballRecruits an opportunity to give their athletes an edge. Our organization aspires to provide high quality tools that give our players an unprecedented advantage in the recruiting process, said Lisa McGloin about the integration. With this user-friendly platform, our players will easily gain access to and communicate with collegiate softball coaches and programs. With SoftballRecruits, players can message any college coach in the country. They populate their profiles with a picture, highlight reels, and video. This potential for customization empowers student-athletes to control the first interaction that a coach has with them. But the players are not the only ones to benefit. SoftballRecruits eliminates much of the wasted time and resources that make the recruiting process chaotic and inefficient for clubs. We were attracted to the easy access to email data and follow-up opportunities, said McGloin. We will benefit from the continuous flow of communication, coupled with a high level of data organization. A streamlined process is the key to successful college recruiting, said McGloin. The best cheap online colleges are often state universities, many of which charge online students the same rate as those who are based on campus. Looking at in-state options may be your best bet for finding the cheapest online college, but there are a number of online schools across the country that offer affordable out-of-state tuition rates in addition to top-level online instruction. Whether you re on a tight budget or want the best academic experience for the lowest price, consider the following universities, which offer some of the most affordable tuition rates for online bachelor s and master s degrees.

The University of West Georgia (UWG) offers exceptionally low graduate-level tuition rates at $282 per credit. The school s online program offers bachelor s and master s degrees, which have nearly the same cost-per-credit fee structure, as well as a doctorate-level degree. UWG offers a careful selection of in-demand online graduate degrees, including nursing, education, computer science, and an MBA program. There is a higher cost per credit for the MBA program, but it is still an affordable rate compared to other top-rated online MBA programs. One other advantage of UWG s online degree is there is no difference in tuition between in-state and out-of-state students.

Columbia College offers the same affordable tuition rates to both in-state and out-of-state students. While tuition rates are relatively lower at all degree levels, the cost of master s degree credits are particularly low when compared to other top online graduate-degree programs. Another notable element is that all fees are included in the tuition figure. Many similar schools charge an additional technology or activity fee that can inflate your tuition bill. Columbia College offers five academic terms per year, which means you pay tuition more frequently than at other schools on the quarter or three-semester system, but the total cost of your online degree will still be comparatively low.

Arkansas State University (ASU) charges all U.S. online students the same low-cost tuition rate regardless of which state you live in. Not only does ASU offer affordable rates to domestic students, but the school s tuition rates are also low for international students. The cost per credit varies depending on degree level, but both undergraduate and graduate credits are very competitively priced. ASU stands out as one of the best and cheapest online schools since it keeps costs flat, fair, and transparent.

Sam Houston State University is another cheap online college that offers low, flat-rate tuition for in-state and out-of-state students alike. Tuition rates vary by degree level. Bachelor s credits currently run just below $300, while the cost per graduate-level credit is only marginally higher. MBA and doctorate-level credits have the highest cost among the degree types at Sam Houston State, but these types of credits are still priced significantly lower than at most other top online colleges. The school is also one of the more military-friendly online colleges around, and tuition assistance is available to new students, transfer students, returning veterans, and dependents.

North Carolina State University (NC State) is a cheap online college particularly for in-state students, but out-of-state rates are still competitive. NC State is the largest university in the Carolinas and has over 10 years of experience delivering quality online education. The school offers online bachelor s degrees, and the online graduate programs are both highly regarded and well priced, making them a distinguishing choice. The online MBA program offered at NC State is the most affordable program available if you re an in-state student. Even if you attend the online program as a nonresident, you will still pay one of the most economical prices for an MBA degree offered anywhere. Additionally, the online graduate business, information technology, education, and engineering programs all have earned high marks among national education rankings. The cost per credit for an online master s degree at NC State is also reasonable considering the quality of their programs.

    Cost of a Degree

Being a school offering two year programs, prospective students should consider the multi year outlay when budgeting the cost for two years at Illinois Central College.

Estimated 2 Year Cost at Published Tuition

At the current published rates, an estimated total tuition, fees and living expense price for a 2 year associate degree at ICC is $42,600 for students graduating in normal time. This methodology for estimating the 2 year cost is a straight multiple of the most recent reported annual total cost and does not factor in tuition increases during the time you’re in school. It also assumes you receive no grant or scholarship aid and pay the full list price.

A potentially more accurate but less conservative estimate of a degree cost can be made by using the school’s annual $4,537 in-state net price as the basis. Applying this cost over 2 would estimate the cost of a degree at $9,074**

**Based on a 2 year multiple of Average Annual Net Price for in state students receiving grant or scholarship aid reported to the U.S. Department of Education’s 2014-2015 IPEDS Survey. Financial aid is only available to those who qualify. Consult this school’s net price calculator for further understanding of your potential net price.

    Student Loans and Debt

The second consideration after understanding the cost of college is determining how to finance it. Some students are fortunate enough to have some form of family financial assistance, but student loans end up financing a significant portion of higher education in the U.S. 16% of Illinois Central College students receive U.S. Federal Student Loans with an average annual Federal Loan aid amount of $3,615.

    Example Loan Payments and Costs

How much are student loan payments for Illinois Central College? Obviously this varies based on a number of factors – offsetting financial aid you receive, percentage of fee you pay upfront while enrolled and the interest rate on your loans. We’ve modeled a sample student loan based on current Stafford loan rates to give you an approximate idea.

The following are the costs for a loan if you borrowed $9,074, 100% of the estimated average net price for a two year program and paid nothing while enrolled. The total of all payments including interest would sum $11,175.08. This could be your effective total out of pocket cost of an education at Illinois Central College. Note that this calculation assumes you don’t pay full list price tuition, are part of the reported 63% of students at this school who receive financial aid and you are paying an average annual net price of $4,537. If you do not financially qualify for a reduced net price, your student loan payments could be significantly higher than this example. Use our Illinois Central College student loan calculator below to change loan assumptions and recalculate.

Student loans are not free money and must be repaid. You cannot dismiss student loans by via bankruptcy.

Affording Student Loan Payments and Post Graduation Salary

Can I afford to attend ICC? In the end, the answer comes down a determination if you will earn enough to comfortably pay back a student loan with your post graduation salary. This is an extremely important point to consider. In order to afford student loan payments and still meet all your other costs of living, it is recommended not to borrow more than you can pay back using 10% of your monthly income earned after graduation. If you’re considering attending Illinois Central College, you need to carefully consider if it will be realistic to make the post graduation loan payments based on your expected salary.

Using the 10% of salary threshold, an annual income of $11,175.08 would be needed to afford a $93.13 monthly payment in the example $9,074.00 loan modeled above. You will need to determine if it is at all realistic that you will be earning this type of salary after graduation. This assumes a loan payback over 10 years. You can change the terms of this example loan using the student loan calculator below.

    Forensic Psychologist
    (found programs from 313 schools)

Welcome to the most complete directory on the Web of Forensic Psychologist programs. It contains all the nationally accredited programs, from 313 schools across the country.

Are you interested in learning what makes the human mind tick and using your knowledge to help investigators solve crimes? Forensic psychology could be the ideal career path for you. Forensic psychology is a hybrid field that combines the intensive knowledge of a criminal psychology degree with a complete understanding of laws and the legal process.

If you want to become a forensic psychologist, use our directory of criminal psychology schools to request more information today!

As with a criminal psychology degree, this job tends to come with a lot of responsibility, so you should be ready to defend your expertise and enhance your understanding at all times. Forensic psychologists are not like traditional psychologists, who aim to serve patients and help them enjoy fuller, more productive lives. Rather, forensic psychologists are dedicated to finding out the truth, whether or not the patient they’re speaking with provides it. As a result, forensic psychology professionals often use different techniques and strategies to glean information from interviewees.

Forensic psychologists are often used in courts of law. Your skills may be called upon to determine whether or not a patient is competent to stand trial and what their mental state was at the time of allegedly committing a crime. Using subtle psychological markers, you may be expected to figure out if a witness or suspect is telling the truth. The information provided by forensic psychologists is often used in jury deliberations, lawyer arguments, and sentencing decisions.

As you may have expected, forensic psychologists are required to meet a thorough set of educational requirements before beginning their careers.

Requirements for Becoming a Forensic Psychologist

If you’ve ever considered a career as a psychologist, you know that this career path is fairly demanding in its educational expectations. This is especially true for forensic psychologists, since they must have a deep knowledge of forensic science in addition to psychology.

For your criminal psychology major, you should consider first earning a Bachelor’s degree in criminal psychology. There are a few selected Bachelor’s degree programs in forensic psychology, but they are few and far between. Some Bachelor’s-level programs do allow you to choose a specialty, so you may be able to take courses in forensic psychology while earning your undergraduate degree. At this level, you may spend four years taking classes like Organizational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and the Psychology of Personality. Your time as a student isn’t done yet! You’ll need to find graduate programs in forensic psychology that lead to a Master’s of Science in Forensic Psychology. These forensic psychology Masters degree courses offer the training you need to effectively work with witnesses, victims, and criminals, while helping you learn the ins and outs of the American legal system. Core classes include Behavioral Interventions in Forensic Settings, Settings and Tools of Psychological and Violence Risk Assessment, and Ethical Concerns in Forensic Psychology. You may choose a specialization track that permits you to develop your knowledge base in one specific area. Popular specialization tracks include forensic psychology in the legal system and forensic psychology for mental health workers.

A PhD or PsyD will be required before you can get your state psychology license and begin working as a forensic psychologist. While a PhD allows you to pursue more academic endeavors, like teaching at a university, a PsyD is more focused on patient care. To earn a PhD, you may need to spend several years writing a thesis on a specific subject of forensic psychology. A PsyD will require lots of clinical work and supervised work.

Career Outlook and Salary Potential for Forensic/Criminal Psychologists

Across the United States, forensic psychologists can anticipate a fairly stable job outlook. O*Net expects job openings for clinical psychologists to increase by 8% to 14% between 2012 and 2022.

Salaries in this field vary widely. Generally, experience trumps all, as well as the criminal psychology major you’ve earned. As you prove yourself in a courtroom and demonstrate your expertise, you may be able to command higher salaries than earlier in your career. Per O*Net, the average salary for a clinical psychologist is $67,760 per year. In a low cost of living state like Florida, salaries may be lower. In Florida, the average salary is $66,200 per year (O*Net, 2013). Other states may have considerably higher salary ranges. The average salary for a New York clinical psychologist is $80,200 per year, nearly $13,000 higher than the national average (O*Net. 2013). Those who work in California claim a median income of $81,400 per year (O*Net, 2013).

    Working as a Forensic Psychologist

It’s obvious that it takes a lot of work to become a criminal psychologist, but what is it like to work as a forensic psychologist? Your job duties may change from day to day, depending on which cases you’ve been assigned to and how full your caseload is. Part of your job duties rotates around questioning suspects. You may have to find out if they are mentally fit to stand trial and if they have enough mental competence to understand what is being asked of them. This also involves watching for signs of mental illness or for faked signs of mental illness. For those that have already been convicted or who are being tried for a crime, you may determine their risk for committing future crimes or their mental state at the time of committing a crime.

Forensic psychology is a highly specialized field; as a result, most psychologists do not work full-time on cases. In many cases, forensic psychologists are faculty members at a local university or college and work on cases when they are needed. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports on a case that involved the repeated stabbing of a 12-year-old girl by two of her friends. A forensic psychologist was called in to determine the girls’ mental state; the psychologist later found that one of the girls was incompetent to stand trial. Your expertise can make a difference on the lives of those who go through the criminal justice system. Contact the schools with forensic psychology Masters degree programs in our directory to learn more about criminal justice programs that can lead to a career as a forensic psychologist!

More and more top universities have stopped requiring incoming students to submit SAT scores, according to Newsweek . Although the standardized test used to be one of the key factors in determining admission, its popularity among competitive institutions has started to wane — many of these schools accept one or a combination of ACT, AP, IB or SAT subject tests and some have chosen to become completely test-optional.

Although initially introduced as a means of providing all applicants an equal shot at being accepted, some universities believe the SAT’s democratic goals have gone awry. Students have to pay a fee to take it, and those who can afford to usually enroll in expensive prep courses or hire a private tutor. A number of researchers have concluded that a student’s high school GPA is as good an indicator of performance in college as the SAT.

Some institutions, like Wake Forest University, found that dropping the SAT requirement increased their student body’s diversity — the percentage of undergraduate minority students rose from 18 to 23 percent once Wake Forest joined the ranks of SAT-free schools.

According to the National Center for Fair and Open Testing. at least 775 American colleges and universities are now test optional. Below, check out eleven competitive institutions where most — if not all — standardized tests are not required for admission.

Do you think the SAT should be phased out? Let us know in the comments section.

63 Colleges With the Best Financial Aid

Last Updated Feb 18, 2011 11:04 AM EST

The most generous schools meet the full financial need of their students. Just a fraction of colleges and universities, however, can make that promise because it requires a huge student financial aid commitment.

In fact, according to a new U.S. News World Report survey, only 63 schools out of 1,700 colleges and universities claim that they meet their students’ full financial need. You can see the U.S. News story here:

Which College Claim to Meet Students’ Full Financial Need?
When evaluating the generosity of schools, you will want to discover if schools include just grants (free money) and a work/study job in their financial aid packages. Nearly all schools also include loans in their packages so when researching schools, check the breakdown of loans versus grants. You can find that kind of information within profiles of individual schools on the websites of the College Board and COLLEGEdata .
