Debt Consolidation? USAA Member Community #loans #south #africa

Financial Advice Q in the right hands it can do a lot of good, but if used incorrectly, it’s pretty dangerous.” So the question is, are yours the right hands or the dangerous ones? Here are a couple points to help you decide:

Behaviors and Mindsets

First and foremost, you generally shouldn’t consolidate your debt until or unless you’ve fixed the behaviors and mindsets that caused you to end up with a bunch of debt in the first place. It sounds like you’re on the right track here but don’t underestimate the importance of this. If you don’t get an emergency fund in place (ultimately shoot for 3-6 months’ worth of your committed expenses) or you don’t stick to your budget, it’s typically just a matter of time before you find yourself with even more debt – the consolidation loan and new debt that will arise due to continued overspending and not having money in the bank.

Interest Costs and Repayment Terms

The next thing you want to look at is the interest costs of the debt you currently have versus what it will cost to consolidate. For example, let’s say you have 2 years left on a 5 year car loan at 4.9% interest and you have the opportunity to consolidate it into a loan at 7% with a 5 year repayment term. This probably wouldn’t be a good idea since you would be increasing the interest rate and the term of the loan. Generally, I’m in favor of consolidating debts only if it results in you paying less interest over time.

One last thing, I’d encourage you to temper your expectations about being able to get a consolidation loan for this amount. You might have trouble finding a bank willing to lend you that much, but it might still be a good idea to try. It’s hard to know the right answer here in advance but the good news is you’ll have a lot of influence over how it turns out with either choice.

Thank you so much for your question. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

How to Apply: Apply for Federal Loans

Federal Direct Loan Program

Accepting your Federal Loans

Before accepting your student loans, we encourage you to learn more about the program by visiting StudentAid.ed.gov .

The William D. Ford Direct Loan Program is the largest federal student loan program. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Education is your lender . There are four types of Direct Loans available:

  • Direct Subsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need to help cover the costs of higher education at PCC.
  • Direct Unsubsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but in this case, the student does not have to demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the loan.
  • Direct PLUS Loans are loans made to graduate or professional students and parents of dependent undergraduate students to help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid. Please visit www.studentloans.gov to apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan. Please be sure to select the correct loan period option for your student If the parent who provided information on the FAFSA is not the parent who has applied for the PLUS loan, then we will need a copy of your birth certificate to verify that the PLUS Loan applicant is your biological parent.
  • Direct Consolidation Loans allow you to combine all of your eligible federal student loans into a single loan with a single loan servicer.

Steps to Accept your Federal Loans

You must reapply for financial aid each academic year by completing the FAFSA. When you apply for financial aid each year, you will be offered loans as part of your financial aid award if you are eligible. A loan is money you borrow and must pay back with interest.

After you have completed your FAFSA and submitted all required follow-up documentation, you will be notified at your myPittcc email account that your award is ready to be reviewed. In order to receive the loan portion of your award you must accept them by completing the following steps:

Click on the link above or go to www.studentloans.gov to log in to the site using your FAFSA information to complete the Online Entrance Counseling:

There are two methods to complete your Master Promissory Note. Click on the link above or go to www.studentloans.gov and submit your MPN electronically, signing with your PIN number, or you may print a paper MPN and mail it to the address listed below for the federal government to process. The paper MPN may increase the length of time it takes to process your loans.

Department of Education

100 Capitol Commerce Blvd

Montgomery, AL 36117

Step 3: Complete Enhanced Loan Entrance Counseling – New Borrowers

Effective January 1,2012 all new borrowers at PCC must attend a mandatory one-hour workshop before you can apply for a loan. Workshops are offered several times throughout each month. Before you can register for a workshop, your FAFSA processing must be complete and all follow-up paperwork submitted to PCC. You will receive assistance in completing the loan request form during the workshop. A photo ID is required for entrance to the meeting. Please click here to sign up for the workshop.

Step 4: Federal Stafford Loan Acceptance Form – New and Returning Borrowers

You accept your loan awards by completing the Loan Acceptance Form and submitting it to the Financial Aid office. You will not receive loan funds if you do not complete this important step. DO NOT submit this form BEFORE you receive your award letter.

You will need to provide a comprehensive listing of your current student loan debt. Go to www.nslds.ed.gov. print your loan history, and attach a copy of it to your Loan Acceptance Form; even if your identifiers cannot be found. If the amount listed above is greater than $0, click on “MyStudentDataDownload” at www.nslds.ed.gov to find your lender name, phone number, and website address

To decline your loans

If you would like to decline your Federal Stafford Loans, you simply do not have to accept your loans on WebAdvisor nor submit the Loan Acceptance Form.

Who is my Lender/Servicer?

To find out who services your student loans (your lender), and how to contact the servicer, call the Department of Education customer service line at: 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

To find out your Federal Stafford Loan balance and/or total debt go to www.nslds.ed.gov .

Single Semester Loans

Single semester loans are only permitted in certain circumstances.

  1. Transferring mid-year: Submit a non-returnable copy of the letter from the school you’ll attend that clearly states your acceptance into that school for the following term; or
  2. Graduating mid-year: Submit a non-returnable letter from your faculty advisor that confirms you have completed the courses and have registered for the appropriate classes this semester to graduate at the end of the semester.

PCC is working with the Department of Education to help prevent high student loan debt while attending PCC. First-year independent students are limited to borrowing up to $2,000 per academic year in unsubsidized loans. Upon successful completion, second-year independent students will be able to borrow up to the full $6,000 in unsubsidized loans in addition to the subsidized limits. An independent student is defined under one or more of the following criteria: married, 24 years of age or older, you provide more than half of the support for a child, veteran, or others as specified by the Department of Education. Dependent student loans limits will remain the same.

New Loan Length Restrictions

Beginning July 1, 2013, the length of time students will have access to subsidized loans is limited for new borrowers. Students cannot borrow more than 150% of a student’s program length. For example, students who enroll in a two-year degree program can only borrow loans for three years total. Once that limit has been reached, a student may borrow only unsubsidized loans, and will begin to accrue interest on outstanding subsidized loans. For more information, please visit: Direct Subsidized Loan Limit .

Graduating or Leaving PCC?

All students who receive a student loan at PCC must complete Exit Counseling when they drop below half time, graduate or leave the college due to withdrawal. Students who leave the College without completing exit counseling are at a higher risk of defaulting on their loans. Be in the know about your loans and complete Exit Counseling.

    Dutchess Community College science classes

Get info about Dutchess Community College science classes, and registering for additional elective sections. Which college degrees give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? To earn a higher salary, compare accredited engineering concentrations, and research technical certificate programs in your chosen field. Concentrating on Dutchess Community College science classes, for example, you may gain an advantage in job recruiting on-campus. Check with the mechanical engineering department for course registration deadlines, and scientific research program requirements. Please use the form above to request admissions info for Dutchess Community College.

Mechanical engineering degrees typically take four to five years to complete, and result in a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Science (BSc or BS), or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME). In the US, most undergraduate mechanical engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Mechanical engineering programs include courses on composites, thermodynamics, engine design, fluid dynamics, control theory, robotics, and computer-aided design (CAD). In addition to the core mechanical engineering curriculum, many mechanical engineering programs offer more specialized programs and classes, such as control systems, fuel cell technology, and biomechanics.

Many mechanical engineering companies have begun to incorporate computer-aided engineering (CAE) programs into their existing processes, including 2D and 3D solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD), enabling faster and more exhaustive visualization of products. Other CAE programs commonly used by mechanical engineers include product lifecycle management (PLM), and analysis tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Further, automation in the form of industrial robots allow businesses to save money on manufacturing costs, and ensure precision quality control. The median annual income of mechanical engineers in the US workforce was $80,580, highest when working for the government ($92,030), and lowest in education ($57,090). Beyond major requirements within the mechanical engineering department, you may consider biotechnology program as an adjunct to your primary course of study.

    Electrical Engineering (EECS)

    Dutchess community college online courses

Electrical engineers design and test new electrical equipment such as electric motors, communications systems, and power generators. Electronics engineering technicians, on the other hand, work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic equipment. They are also involved in the deployment of new equipment in factory automation. Electrical engineering (EECS) has several sub-disciplines, including power engineering, software development, and control engineering. Electrical engineers with an EECS bachelors degree earned an average salary of $95,230 in 2017, while engineering technicians with an associates degree earned $61,130 annually.

The field of electric power engineering deals with the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. These include transformers, electric generators, electric motors, high voltage engineering, and power electronics. Electrical engineers maintain an electrical network called the power grid, that connects a variety of generators using high-voltage transmission lines. Signal processing relates to the analysis and manipulation of signals. Signals can be either analog, in which case the signal varies continuously, or digital, where the signal varies according to a series of discrete values. Control engineering applications range from flight systems of commercial airplanes to industrial automation. Where there is regular feedback, control theory can be used to determine how the system responds.

    Dutchess Community College Admissions Process

Most colleges accept either the SAT or ACT, and have formulas for converting raw test scores. The SAT test has a separate vocabulary section while the ACT has a separate science reasoning section. Other college admissions information sources, like SUNY University at Albany transfer process, make use of standardized tests in admissions decisions because there are substantial differences in course requirements, high school GPA, and grade curve difficulty among US schools. You can also explore practice test, in order to further target your academic interests. For students following an engineering track, and who can meet the minimum work-experience requirement of 2-3 years, engineer interns can attempt a certifying exam called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.

In some instances, colleges may spot-check admissions applications for accuracy, such as requiring proof of a summer internship. According to data on Shepherd University virtual campus tour pages, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. You may compare Baldwin Wallace College with other schools that you’re considering.

    Financial Aid Information

The IRS suggests that parents maintain accurate financial statements, including tax forms and business records, for use when applying for student financial aid. Most private loan programs are tied to one or more financial indexes, such as the BBA LIBOR Rate, plus an overhead charge. Financial aid may be administered via St Philips College office of financial aid or through academic departments. Alternatively, student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. Finally, trade unions may offer academic scholarships and other financial assistance for students of union members.

I was stung by a yellow jacket on my leg just above the ankle about 2 weeks ago. Immediately I put ice on it and used very cold water on it the rest of the day. I didn’t swell until a day later. A few days later I got terrible itching. I tried cortisone cream, Lanacane and more ice without relief. Finally in desperation I tried aloe vera capsules I had on hand; instant relief from itching. I did not need another application. By next day, the swelling was down and I could see it was healing. Now I can still see a small dot where I was stung and there’s a little discoloration but all is well.

I just got stung on the edge of my hand by a nasty wasp. The stinger came out when I flicked the wasp off my hand. It hurt terribly. I patted the spot with a paper towel moistened with vinegar. The relief was instant. I know some doctors claim it is only a placebo effect, but it worked. It started hurting again after 10 minutes, so I reapplied the vinegar. Relief again.

Comment from: Dotty99, 55-64 Female (Patient) Published: March 30

I was stung on my inner wrist into a vein by a wasp. The pain was horrendous, I immediately bathed it and put on some antiseptic cream. I took 2 ibuprofen tablets and an antihistamine. The pain continued and the area became red and my hand started to swell up (I had taken my rings off). I looked online to see if there was anything else I could try as I was feeling terrible. I read about putting a one pence coin on it for about 10 minutes. With nothing to lose I held it over where the sting had been and almost immediately the swelling started to subside. Pian is now gone and only a slight redness still can be seen. The penny seemed to do the trick, must be something in the metal.

Comment from: OnlyVal, 65-74 Female (Patient) Published: July 29

I was stung by a red wasp on my arm July 9. It hurt at first, then my arm swelled up like a football and was very red and itchy. Doctor said it was infected and gave me steroid shot and wrapped it up and told me to keep it on ice pack. Yesterday while I was sleeping, I was again stung by a red wasp. I felt a tickle on my arm and brushed it away and the wasp attached itself to my finger and stung me. This time it hurts all the time and my hand and fingers are so swollen I can’t even pick up a coffee cup. Remedy: Benadryl, sit and rest arm on a pillow with an ice pack. These stings last at least two weeks for me.

Toothpaste – advice from my mother-in-law, mother of 12 children. Best to use the white kind with baking soda. The pain from the bee/wasp sting goes away within a few minutes; no swelling, no healing. Done.

Comment from: Alf, 19-24 Male (Patient) Published: January 11

You should put some cold water on bee/wasp sting for 5 minutes.

Comment from: emismom, 35-44 Female (Patient) Published: September 09

I was stung by a paper wasp. I happened to have a can of Burt’s Bees brand natural insect repellant. The stinging pain was very intense. I thought it couldn’t make it worse. I got the repellent on the sting within a minute of getting stung and was astonished that the pain was gone in less than 30 seconds. I had minor swelling and barely noticeable itching. 10 hours later, the skin around the area only feels slightly tight. I was stung 20+ times when I stepped on a nest as a child. I think they were hornets. My ankles swelled up so big I couldn’t put socks on. My friend’s mother put wet tobacco from a cigarette on them. Didn’t do a thing to help.

Comment from: grandpa, 65-74 Male (Patient) Published: November 24

I was stung by a paper wasp 10 years ago, on my upper back. A red spot big as a quarter lasted 4 days. Two days ago I had a skin cancer cut off, same spot, same size.

Comment from: ms jane, 55-64 Female (Patient) Published: September 05

When my husband and I were camping, he got into a wasp nest. Our neighbor camper told him to use a raw onion. We now swear by the onion for bee stings. The onion stops the pain immediately. Just hold it on the sting for a few minutes. It may not stop the swelling a lot, but it really stops the pain. My granddaughter was stung by yellow jackets and this totally stopped her pain and the swelling. Keep an onion handy. It works!

Comment from: Shall1, 3-6 Female (Caregiver) Published: October 09

I got stung in the ankle by a red wasp. It was the most painful thing I have ever felt! I couldn’t immediately do anything because I was working, but every time I stepped, shooting pain shot up my leg. By day two, my entire foot and a third of my lower let swelled. I went to the doctor and she said it was a local reaction. She gave me an antibiotic because it looked infected and told me to ice it, take Benadryl, and elevate. It took two weeks to get better. And my ankle still feels bruised months later.
