The compressor in my A/C heat pump has failed. Serviceman says its locked up. The unit is 9 years old 12 seer and the compressor itself is under warranty. Brand is Rudd or Ruud, (don’t remember right now). He has given me prices to repair. Compressor replacement is quoted at 1040.76. His labor is $495, R22 is 472.50, filter/dryer is $48 and freight is $25.

He has also given a price for a new outside unit of $3947.50. That includes an American Standard/Trane 13 seer unit, new evap coil, thermostat, pad and flush the lines.

Replacement compressor has 1yr parts and labor warranty
New unit has 10yr parts and 5yr labor

I’m hoping you guys can give me your opinions so I can make a decision based on more than the cost.

Labor and shipping seem ok. However, he is charging you $48 for a $15. dryer and he is also charging you for a full 30lb bottle of 22 when he is only gonna need about 5lbs give or take. (13lbs? I doubt it being a 12 seer, even if it was 5 ton with a long line set, thats a lot)I also change the capacitor when I do it. It is an easy job for a professional, but I do not suggest you do it yourself if you dont know what you are doing. Wish you were local, would do it for half. Easy job that will take about an hour or so. Longest part is pulling a vaccum.
He seems to be inflating his repair price to get you to go with a new unit.

What is Ford Motor credit loss payee address #ford #motor #credit #address #for #insurance

What is Ford Motor credit loss payee address?

To my knowledge there are no loss payees on general liability policies as there is no property coverage on general liability. Loss payee is a term on a property policy used to indiciate that the loss payee listed would get paid in the event there was a property claim. Most frequently a mortgagee or lender asks to be loss payee. General liability policies have additional insured endorsements to extend coverage to third parties who you may be working with.

No! Ford does not care about its customers or workers they only care about taking your money! They don’t forgive anything. They only work with you if they have direct access to your paycheck! They can get in financial trouble and take years to get back on track but if you owe them and get in financial trouble they treat you like you are the scum of the earth!

This phrase refers to the order in which creditors get paid off in the event that a debtor defaults on a loan. The first loss payee would priority over other creditors, and be paid off first.

2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid vs #ford #fusion #vs #camry

2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid vs. Fusion Energi: Which One Makes More Sense?

Being the only vehicle in its class doesn’t always guarantee a hit, but that can work in the consumers’ favor. Take the Ford Fusion Energi, which for a few years was the only plug-in hybrid in the midsize sedan class. With the average price of gas in the U.S. at $2.24 a gallon (as this is written), it’s no wonder Ford reserves its highest Fusion-line incentives for the plug-in hybrid sedan. If the refreshed 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid is on your list, though, does the Fusion Energi also merit consideration?

I’ve driven the pre-2017 Fusion Energi plug-in sedan, which doesn’t have the EV-only range of a Chevrolet Volt but looks much nicer than the Chevy and the new Toyota Prius Prime. The Ford has a decent amount of interior space, but the same can’t be said about the trunk, which is just 8.2 cubic feet in the Fusion Energi, down from the Fusion Hybrid’s 12 cu-ft and 16 cu-ft in non-hybrid Fusions. Hope you really like the Fusion Energi’s styling, because that 8.2 cubic feet falls below the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In’s 9.9, the 2016 Volt’s 10.6, and the 2015 Prius Plug-In’s 21.6. Toyota says the 2017 Prius Prime has more cargo space than that model.

After recently spending some time in the 2017 Fusion Hybrid, I liked the way it drove even though it felt slower than a 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Through the accelerator pedal on the Fusion Hybrid I drove, I felt a little too much vibration, but it’s unclear whether that minor issue is isolated to the cars we drove. Both Fusion hybrid models feel a little heavy but ride well. In Motor Trend testing, a 2013 Fusion Hybrid SE hit 60 in 8.5 seconds, actually 0.6 second slower than a 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium. The Camry Hybrid is objectively quicker, too, at 7.1 seconds to 60, as is a 2016 Malibu Hybrid prototype we tested at 7.4 seconds. The non-PHEV 2016 Sonata Hybrid reached 60 in 8.3 seconds, and we’ve tested 2014 Accord Hybrids hitting 60 in 7.0-7.4 seconds.

To maximize the Fusion Hybrid’s 188 combined-system hp, you could turn off the Eco mode, but I didn’t notice much of a difference with it on or off in our short time with the car. The Low gear button on the top of the modern transmission shift dial proved useful for slowing down without using the brakes, which mostly feel natural except their sensitivity at low speeds. As with most hybrids, they might require a quick learning curve before you get used to it.

Safely hypermiling can be a fun way to enjoy a hybrid, and the Fusion Hybrid continues to offer the leaf/plant graphic on one of the two color instrument cluster screens, adding or dropping leaves depending on how efficiently you drive. If you’re comparing fuel efficiency of any 2016 or 2017 cars, keep in mind the EPA made more stringent the rating process for 2017, so ratings of 2016-model-year cars may or may not carry over to 2017. Having said that, the 2017 Fusion Hybrid’s 43/41 mpg city/highway ratings are respectable, but it’s unclear what to expect for the 2017 Camry Hybrid (40-43/38-39 for 2016), 2017 Sonata Hybrid (39-40/43-44 for 2016), or the 2017 Malibu Hybrid (47/46 mpg for 2016). Honda estimates the 2017 Accord Hybrid will earn 49/47 mpg and 48 mpg combined.

The Fusion Energi hasn’t been EPA-rated, but Ford estimates the car will be rated for about 21 miles of EV-only range before the gas engine automatically kicks in. That’s in line with Toyota ’s not-yet-rated 22-mile estimate for the 2017 Prius Prime and is lower than the 2016 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid’s 27 miles (the 2017 model could change) and 2017 Chevrolet Volt ’s 53 miles. Depending on your commute, opting for any of these plug-ins could make for a much quieter commute to work.

Regardless of whether you opt for the Fusion’s suite of active safety tech, the Ford does well in safety tests. The updated 2017 model has yet to be safety-tested by the NHTSA and IIHS, but all 2016 Fusions received an overall five-star rating from the NHTSA like the Sonata, Malibu, Camry, and Accord. The 2016 Fusion line got Good ratings in four IIHS categories and one Acceptable rating, though that could change for 2017. The 2016 Malibu hasn’t yet been fully IIHS tested, but the 2016 Sonata, Accord, and Camry have IIHS Top Safety Pick + ratings.

Deal-seekers might want to take note of aggressive incentives Ford is offering on the Energi model. The incentives, which as this is written appear to range from about $4,000 to $5,500 depending on your ZIP code, slash the plug-in’s price to not much more than that of the non-PHEV hybrid model. The math is different depending on where you live, but driving a plug-in can be more fun as you try to maximize your engine-less, quiet driving time.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid segments are about to become more crowded, with new entries from Hyundai. Honda. and Kia on the way. The Fusion hybrids aren’t the most efficient or cargo-friendly in their classes, but they drive well and boast attractive looks in a sedan body style. At the right price, they might just make sense.

Flood Of Off-Lease Vehicles – Set To Wreak Havoc On New Car Sales #zero #hedge, zerohedge, finance, economics, markets, politics, analysis, auto #sales, detroit, ford, general #motors, morgan #stanley, ohio, reuters

Flood Of Off-Lease Vehicles Set To Wreak Havoc On New Car Sales

The percentage of new car ‘sales’ moving off dealer lots via leases has nearly tripled since late 2009 when they hit a low of just over 10%. Over the past 6 years, new leases, as a percent of overall car sales, has soared courtesy of, among other things, low interest rates, stable/rising used car prices and a nation of rental-crazed citizens for whom monthly payment is the only metric used to evaluate a “good deal”. even though leasing a new vehicle is pretty much the worst ‘deal’ you can possibly find for a rapidly depreciating brand new asset like a car. but we digress.

Of course, what goes up must eventually come down. And all those leases signed on millions of brand new cars over the past several years are about to come off lease and flood the market with cheap, low-mileage used inventory. As Reuters noted, the flood of used vehicles is already starting to impact used car dealers:

Recently, though, a computer search for available used vehicles within 150 miles of Reel revealed an eye-popping figure: 668 Escapes. That’s enough to put more than 40 percent of the inhabitants of this small northeastern Ohio town, population 1,600, into the popular crossover.

A search for the Chevrolet Equinox, a comparable crossover, showed 461 available.

“The automakers have flooded the market,” said Reel, owner of Reel’s Auto in Orwell, Ohio, about 40 miles east of Cleveland.

By the end of 2019, an estimated 12 million low-mileage vehicles are coming off leases inked during a 2014-2016 spurt in new auto sales, according to estimates by Atlanta-based auto auction firm Manheim and Reuters.

And, of course, that kind of supply is already starting to take it’s toll on used car prices.

Chief Executive Mike Jackson said rising off-lease car numbers means “a higher supply of pre-owned vehicles at a more attractive price.”

Consumers seeking great deals are in luck. Used-vehicle prices at auction fell about 3 percent last year, according to Carmel, Indiana-based KAR Auction Services Inc (KAR.N), which facilitated the sale of 5.1 million used and salvaged vehicles in 2016. Used prices should drop around 3 percent annually for the next couple of years, according to KAR’s chief economist Tom Kontos.

General Motors Co (GM.N) and Ford Motor Co (F.N) say prices for its used vehicles, which consist largely of nearly-new ones coming off lease to consumers, fell 7 percent in the first quarter versus the same period in 2016. GM says it expects a 7 percent decline for 2017 compared to last year.

and, as Morgan Stanley recently pointed out, we’re just getting started as they see used car prices dropping by up to 50% over the next 5 years.

So what happens next? Unstable used car prices will almost certainly reduce OEM reliance on leases as the implied 3-year depreciation (or residual values, if you prefer) will make them all but completely uneconomical. remember, Americans only care about that monthly payment. Meanwhile, the relative value between used and new cars will tilt heavily in favor of the used market. Thankfully Americans will still be able to buy that Mercedes they require to get back and forth from their minimum wage jobs, while maintaining a monthly payment of $500 or less, but it will just have to have 30,000 miles on it.

Of course, the OEMs of the world won’t admit that their game is over until it’s way too late. So, they’ll keep right on producing new cars to cover a 17-18mm SAAR environment up until the point they face an outright revolt from their dealer networks. At that point, however, dealer inventories will be so high that Detroit will be forced to shutdown for months on end while new car prices are slashed to reduce the massive inventory glut. Tanking new car prices will put even more pressure on used car prices which will mark the beginning of the death spiral that will result in a new round of inevitable auto bankruptcies. but that’s just a hunch.

What – s So Bad About Casual Drug Use? #congress, #health # # #science, #medicine, #politics, #public #health, #uncategorized, #cocaine, #rob #ford, #trey #radel

What s So Bad About Casual Drug Use?

So Representative Trey Radel, the Republican from Florida, a self-styled “conservative voice ” in Congress, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession. And Toronto’s city council has stripped Mayor Rob Ford of much of his power after it came out that he had smoked crack (never mind that Ford’s well-known drunken antics were not cause for such censure).

Rather than arguing whether such figures are hypocrites (Radel voted in favor of mandatory drug testing for food-stamp beneficiaries) or debating how they should attempt damage control (he’s also pledged to enter a substance-abuse program after paying a fine and receiving a year’s probation), let’s ask a more basic question: What’s so scandalous about casual drug use?

Yes, some substances are illegal (though as the case of marijuana shows, this status is subject to change). But absent other indicators of dangerous and antisocial behavior — like driving while intoxicated — why should snorting coke be treated any differently than, say, drinking a beer?

Prohibitionists typically deny the very possibility of responsible or voluntary use of currently illegal substances. They argue that drugs such as coke, heroin, ecstasy, methamphetamine and even marijuana are verboten precisely because they simply can’t be used casually. Any use either already constitutes abuse or quickly leads to it. “Drugs are not dangerous because they are illegal,” former drug czar William Bennett and former Health, Education and Welfare Secretary Joseph Califano wrote in a 2011 Wall Street Journal op-ed, “they are illegal because they are dangerous.”

Nearly 50% of people have tried an illegal drug at least once, yet most don’t repeat the experience. With cocaine, most who have tried it not only don’t go on to became addicts under even the most expansive possible definition of the term, they don’t even go on to become regular users.

According to the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health. 14.5% of Americans ages 12 and older have tried cocaine at least once, but just 1.8% report using the drug recreationally in the past year. And just 0.6% have used it in the past 30 days, which would seem to be the minimal definition of a casual user.

The same pattern is true for heroin, which is typically talked about as magically addictive. Fear of the drug is surely one of the reasons why just 1.8% of Americans have ever tried it at all. But only 0.3% report using it in the past year and just 0.1% in the past month. That pattern simply shouldn’t be possible if these drugs were as addictive as commonly thought.

In the early 1970s, researcher Lee N. Robins led a study commissioned by the Department of Defense that followed tens of thousands of Vietnam War veterans as they returned to the U.S. Use of narcotics and heroin was rampant among soldiers stationed in Southeast Asia, with as many 20% showing signs of addiction. Yet during the first year back, “only 5% of those who had been addicted in Vietnam were addicted in the U.S.” and “at three years, only 12% of those addicted in Vietnam had been addicted at any time in the three years since return, and for those readdicted, the addiction had usually been very brief.” It wasn’t for lack of access to junk, either: half of the returning addicts said they’d tried heroin at least once since arriving back home.

As my Reason colleague Jacob Sullum has documented, such take-it-or-leave-it findings are common in drug research. In his 2004 book Saying Yes and other places, he’s detailed work in which researchers find a surprising range among heroin users, including a study that concluded. “It seems possible for young people from a number of different backgrounds, family patterns and educational abilities to use heroin occasionally without becoming addicted.

It’s also true that regular drug users can often function quite well. Sigmund Freud used cocaine habitually for years, and his first major scientific publication was about the wonders of the drug (he eventually forsook it). Another pioneering late 19th and early 20th century man of medicine, William Halsted, was dependent on cocaine and morphine during an illustrious career that revolutionized and modernized surgical techniques.

None of this is a brief for snorting cocaine, shooting heroin or smoking marijuana (a substance that 58% of Americans think should be legal for recreational use) any more than it is a plea for drinking single-malt whiskey or pinot noir.

But in an age in which we are expected to use legal drugs (like beer) and prescription medications (Adderall) responsibly, it’s time to extend that same notion to currently illegal substances whose effects and properties are widely misunderstood. Indeed, the effects of coke, heroin and the rest are a mystery partly because their outlaw status makes it difficult both to research them and have honest discussions about them.

Radel has announced that he’ll be taking a leave of absence from Congress while he enters rehab. Perhaps he does need to sober up — that’s really for him and his family to decide — but it’s far from clear that his problem is particular to cocaine or illegal drugs. Indeed, in announcing his plans, he didn’t blame cocaine for his troubles but “the disease of alcoholism ,” which he says led him to make really bad decisions. And alcohol, after all, is perfectly legal.

SUV Review: 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited

A mild refresh for Hyundai’s mid-sized SUV

Pros Good power, roomy, easy to drive

Cons Not as stylish as smaller Sport version, cabin environment still bland

Value for money Good

What would I change? Bling up the cabin with a splash of colour and better quality materials

How I would spec it? XL Luxury 6-passenger ($42,599)

Not normally given to hyperbole, Hyundai Auto Canada is nonetheless stretching the definition of the word “extensive” in announcing the changes made to the largest model in its lineup, the mid-sized Santa Fe XL sport-ute. And, talk about getting a jump on the year, said refreshed XL is being released as a 2017 model.

Local Pricing Incentives

It’s not that I’m making light of the popular three-row SUV; it’s just that these revisions are really subtle — at least to someone not intimately connected with the South Korean automaker. Of course, another way of looking at it is that Hyundai is confident it got the essentials right when it initially launched the XL for the 2014 model year, and the 2017 version’s “fluidic sculpture” styling merely needs a tweak here and there to be competitive with its rivals. Speaking of which, these would include other three-row models such as the Toyota Highlander. Nissan Pathfinder. Honda Pilot. Kia Sorento. Ford Explorer and GMC Acadia .

For those with keen eyesight, exterior changes to the biggest Santa Fe — there’s also the smaller, five-passenger Sport version — include new headlights, grille, taillights, bumpers, wheel design and standard LED daytime running lights (with aerodynamic vents that improve airflow by shuttling air around the front wheels). Inside, there’s a new centre stack (that looks a lot like the old centre stack) with a standard five-inch LCD touchscreen, plus an “extensive” list of new features.

What hasn’t changed is the powertrain. There’s nothing fancy here — no turbocharged four-cylinder or hybrid setups — just the Lambda II 3.3-litre DOHC V6 with gasoline direct injection that pumps out a solid 290 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft. of torque. Interestingly, even though the XL is built in Korea, the engine was tuned at the Hyundai America Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to ensure “it suits the preferences of North American drivers.” If that means something that will haul, the XL delivers; its maximum towing capacity of 2,268 kilograms (5,000 pounds) is ideal for pulling weekend toys.

It also provides the 1,840-kilogram all-wheel-drive SUV (1,784 kg for the base front-drive model) with decent zip — instrumented testing done a couple of years ago had the XL accelerating to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and pulling off an 80-to-120 passing move in 6.6 seconds. Given no change in the powertrain and no weight gain, the 2017 version should post an identical result.

As in the Santa Fe Sport, XL models now come with Drive Mode Select, which adjusts the steering, throttle and six-speed transmission in response to whichever of the Sport, Eco, or Normal settings is preferred. There’s nothing extreme here; it’s a fairly mild progression between each setting.

The V6 is mated to a six-speed automatic with Shiftronic manual mode. All models feature an ActiveEco system that modifies engine and transmission control to smooth out throttle response and, says Hyundai, increase real-world fuel economy by up to seven per cent. For all that, my test average of 16.5 L/100 km — predominantly suburban commuting — was no better than most SUVs the size of the XL.

All trim levels save the base model get Hyundai’s advanced active AWD system, which activates automatically as needed, apportioning power in order to optimize traction. Under normal conditions, it distributes power to the front wheels only. While it might lack the sophistication of AWD systems in such legendary off-road brands as Jeep and Land Rover, it worked just fine during a day of freezing rain and ice. The AWD system incorporates Active Cornering Control, part of the vehicle stability management system, which helps the XL manage acceleration in a corner. To improve traction and cornering performance, braking force is applied to the inside rear wheel when accelerating through a turn.

Ride and handling is quite satisfactory for a sport-ute, though nothing extraordinary. All Santa Fes, big and small, have a MacPherson strut front suspension and a fully independent multi-link rear suspension, with stabilizer bars at both ends.

The XL increases second-row legroom by 50 millimetres and cargo capacity by 240 litres relative to the five-passenger Santa Fe Sport. Standard for the XL is a 40/20/40 split-folding second-row bench seat for seven-passenger capability. Optional, as in the case of the tester, is a six-passenger layout with second-row captain’s chairs. Access to the third row — a 50/50 split-folding bench seat — is tight, and, with just 800 mm of legroom, the back row is best left to the young and flexible.

New for 2017 is the Ultimate model, which, as its name obviously suggests, is the top-end trim, with all the bells and whistles. The tester was a Limited, the next-highest model, still fully featured with the usual modern conveniences, including heated/ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, 12-speaker premium audio system, eight-inch high-resolution touchscreen with navigation system and Android Auto, blind-spot detection, sunroof, rear-passenger HVAC controls and vents and much more.

One thing Hyundai still hasn’t quite got a grasp on is a cabin “presence” befitting a vehicle priced at more than $44,000. Layout is still heavily skewed toward function, with a black plasticky interior bordering on the dull. On the plus side, the dash layout has a nice design to it and features big and well-marked buttons and knobs to handle the various functions.

The Santa Fe XL is easy to drive and is a competent all-around, four-season family vehicle. Yet, despite the makeover, it’s looking a little ordinary up against the likes of Honda ’s redesigned 2016 Pilot and the just-unveiled — at the New York Auto Show — 2017 Toyota Highlander. The upshot is that while it should still be on the list for those shopping three-row SUVs/crossovers, it shouldn’t be the only model there.
