2014 has been quite an interesting year, full of ups and downs, but I find myself in an unique situation that I hope some can give direction. Due to some unexpected family medical bills and a loss of income in the home, credit cards that were previously “sock drawered” were used this spring and summer. As of 9/1, I sit with approx. 9100 in CC debt across 6 ccs, with 100% util on 5 of the 6, with the average interest rate being 22%. I have been making more than the min.payment on the 3 larger ones, but have tracked that approx 500/mo is going to this debt, and I am not making much progress in outpacing the interest.

I’m not living paycheck to paycheck, but the 500/mo that I used to be able to operate on which now goes to these cards has made things much tighter on the budget. I don’t have any expected windfall of funds coming in the next few months that would wipe out all of this, and with a possible year end bonus or tax refund months away, I am considering a personal loan to consolidate the debt.

From research here, aside from my local credit union, I see Discover offers personal loans. My most recent FICO (per my barclays app) was 647.

Aside from a local credit union (which I have an auto loan with since June but nothing else), and discover, are there any other viable options I am missing?

How to find an small auto loan? myFICO® Forums #loan #calculation

I am looking for an small auto loan for 1 – Improving my credit score and having different types of accounts in my history. 2 – to cover my small shortage of money. The problem is I dont like to get a big loan and purchase an almost expensive car. I am student and prefer to keep my life simple and manageable.

My credit scores are between 665 – 690. no late payment or no negative problem is in my account. I have stable job in university and earn 2000$ each month.

I am trying to purchase a used car. some thing about 4k – 5k. I can put up to 2500 $ in cash as down payment. so looking to an small 2500 $ or even 2k loan. I can afford 200 $ monthly payments too. But the problem is most of banks and lenders do not offer such small loans. How can I find such a loan for myself. As I know some auto dealers themselves are offering such small loans to the buyers. and then they report it to the credit unions. But as I know dealers are charging a lot of doc fees for such loans. and also they increase the auto price too. so I prefer to find a small loan myself. Can I find lenders offering such an small loans. or auto dealers are my only chance ?

#car loan bad credit

I’m new to the boards and have been reading for a couple months but this is my first time posting! I wanted to share my story:

I have been car shopping for 2 months, I have a BK chap 7 (discharged 10/11) I’ve heard stories that after a BK auto loans and credit cards are basically beating down your door, well not mine I filled out a couple of apps for store cards right after my discharge and was turned down for each one, I went to Carmax and applied for a car and was denied (I think it was due to low scores and putting no money down in my app) I then applied for Roadloans and was approved but couldn’t come up with the downpayment in time so the offer expired, when I reapplied for Roadloans, I was denied. I decided to order my credit reports in Jan thru Experian and these were the scores I was given: EX 541 / EQ 567 / TU 600, I signed up for Experian’s credit monitoring service and didn’t apply for anything for 3 months, I also disputed a lot of things that weren’t reported correctly after the BK and updated my address employer info. There were 2 addresses on my report that didn’t belong to me ever so I added a consumer statement.

With Experian you are given a statement montly and a new report every 90 days so in March when I went to refresh my report, the site wouldn’t let me, I spent hours on the phone with customer service and was told I didn’t have a credit report. say word. I was being told that when my ss number was ran, NOTHING came up. I explained that #1 I am 42years old and have used credit since I was 18 or so and that I ran my report in June 2011 before my BK and again in Jan 2012 with no issues.

When I got notices my disputes were done, I tried applying for credit again. nada, turned down for everything. Mid- April I decided to car hunt again, I went online and searched “bad credit auto loans” and ended up applying with Auto Credit Express, I dealt with Ford, I was looking for a used Jetta and they had a couple on their lot, long story short it was a horrific experience, they never kept their word and played lots of games, ultimately I was approved for 14k thru one of the subprime banks they deal with, they wanted 5k down and an APR of 25%, and my payments would have been $320 on a 2009 Ford Escape, I almost took the deal b/c I know my credit scores were low but because of some other incidents dealing with their sales people I walked away. Now to the good part-

I decided to just find VW dealer since I wanted a 2009 or above Jetta SE, I was scared to apply with VW because I thought I wouldn’t meet their credit requirements, I went down, test drove and told the salesman all of my credit woes before applying, he submitted me for a 3 year lease thru VW but I was declined, they stated I had to either have a co-signer or a significant downpayment (I told them I could do 3k but they wanted at least 6) so the salesman said he would try some of their other lenders as a purchase loan not lease, Wells Fargo approved me for 14k with 3k down, my payments are $350.76 and my APR is 16.9 %, I was floored, approved for the same amount as the Ford folks but with a better APR and less $ down. VW gave me a copy of my credit results and they were: EQ 526 / TU 517 / Experian unknown.

I want to point out that I went to a couple different dealerships and was told without at least 5-6k down they couldn’t help me, I also received denial letters from Wells Fargo (3, one from Ford, one from Hyundai and one myself applying as a consumer) this last time around I got a call from Wells to verify some info and I asked him about the 3 denials and he said he too was having issues running my credit that with Experian and TRW it came up blank, zero score, no tradelines, no nothing not even the BK. he thought maybe it was because of the disputes (I did online disputes with EQ TU but EX would not let me, I had to request report by mail and am still waiting) He also said a lot of times the approval depends on the banks relationship with certain dealers. I’m not sure what’s going on, maybe there was fraud, maybe my disputes but there is some issue with me and Experian and I can’t wait to fig it out.

I know this was long, hopefully it made sense, lastly I want to say as a last ditch effort I applied for the Capital One secured card and kept getting a letter every 2 weeks or so saying I needed to send in documents verifying my identity, I did but the letters kept coming so finally I called, 3 weeks later I got a card in the mail for an unsecured card with a $300 limit and enrolled in the credit steps program. I am not applying for any more credit for the remainder of the year, gonna keep this auto loan paid on time and my capital one and hopefully Experian gets itself together in the interim.

I hope this helped someone! Lastly, I have been on my job 18mos and have a monthly income of about $4, 000.

April, welcome to the forums.

Why don’t you take a quick look at the credit rebuilding forum here first, there is a ton of info that can help you bring up your score so when you choose to finance you get a much better loan than the terms you have currently on your husband’s car.

Some people get their scores up right away (30 days to 3 months) others take longer. It depends upon what is holding your score back.

It’s better to not put yourself into a difficult high priced loan when you can take just a bit to bring up your score and end up with a much better loan.

BTW, Carmax specializes in bad credit loans. You would be better off taking the $3k you have and buying a beater if you need a car right away. That way you can work on your credit and you and your husband can pay off the current high interest loan you have already before you take on another payment.

One idea you could do right away, if your husband has paid on time since he got the loan, have him join a credit union to refinance the loan into his name only at a better interest rate? It will save you both on the monthly payment. And, it might be possible for you then to get financed to purchase a vehicle with CU financing.

I am with Guy448. It is a gamble – you may have great results, you may not. I chose the life time plan, had both eyes done twice last year and they are still not right. I’ll stick with glasses when I need them.

Hi, I’m 2 1/2 weeks post surgery and I’m far sighted which is much worse than near sighted but, I’m told, it may get better. In any case, I’ve read various things about lasik enhancements and I’ve made the decision to not to do it. There are risks specifically with the cornea flap and I’m going to leave well enough alone and get along with glasses.

My vision is correctable with glasses and is currently only slightly far-sighted (+.75) so I’m just going to live with it.

How far-sighted are you? Do you need glasses for distance. Or is it that you just can’t see near due to the age?

Re: LASIK again ten years later?

the risk in a second Lasik is lower than that of the first lasik because the flap is already there.

I would think all the risks are the same. The only difference is the flap is already cut. I did ask my doctor what the time frame was for lifting the flap and he said he has done them 10 years later which means to me it never really fully heals. The risks are still the same with the flap being positioned properly, and as with any cuts there is scarring, again lifting the flap is an injury to the body. There is also the risk of infections, getting the correction correct, induced sight problems like astigmatism like I have, dry eye, and more.
This is a major operation and I look back thinking how weird it was that a person can just walk into a room and have the cornea cut and lifted without a whole lot of sterilization done.

11-20-2012 12:20 AM by Pablo7703

Re: LASIK again ten years later?

You are absolutely right. the only problems you will not have the risk of when the flap is already created are problems related to cutting blood supply to the retina and increasing the intraocular pressure in the process of creating the flap..
I am glad you are thinking this through and taking your time before rushing into it. if only I was like you before I had mine done good luck

The design of a car (interior and exterior) depends on the creativity of the designer(s), but often also on the cost/price limitation. For instance, if you consider the interior of a BMW M2 less of a success than that of an M4, then this is certainly a result of the cost/price limitation. Of course, as industrial designers and manufacturers, we from BIMMER MASTERPIECES are not bound by this limitation!

I hope this is the right area. I searched for other threads like this, but none of them answered my question.

I just relocated and since it took me awhile to get a job I’m behind on bills/rent and need some quick cash to get caught back up. I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that is fully paid off. It’s in fair condition according to kelley blue book and has 145k miles on it. It was suggested to use my car as collateral for a small loan since I have bad credit. Can anyone recommend any places to me that might approve me for a loan? I’m talking in the area of like $2000.

I have 2 accounts with Chase and was going to try there initially but was told that even with collateral, Chase still expects you to have excellent credit. Would other banks give me a loan without having an account with them or would I have to look elsewhere? I also was told that there are finance companies that deal specifically with doing secured and unsecured loans. Does anyone know of any I could contact or any reputable ones online? (I live in Los Angeles if that helps.)
