Indian roller (Coracias benghalensis)

The Indian roller gains its name from its elaborate courtship displays, during which it performs some startling aerobatics culminating in a series of ‘rolling’ motions. The Indian roller is a medium-sized bird which, when perched, appears a fairly drab brown, with a blue crown and lower wing. In flight, however, it is extremely striking, with its deep purple-black wings, bright blue rump, and a blue band across the tail becoming visible (2). Its eyes are greyish-brown and the strong, hook-tipped bill is blackish-brown (3) (4) .

Indian roller biology

This bird feeds primarily on insects, in particular beetles, crickets, and grasshoppers. It also regularly consumes flying insects such as wasps, flies, moths and butterflies (6). Where available, amphibians also form a large part of its diet, although in drier areas this food source is often not available (5). When hunting, the Indian roller typically sits motionless at a high vantage point, from which it can scan the ground for potential prey items. When prey is spotted, it will drop down to snatch it and then return immediately to its perch to consume it. On other occasions the Indian roller feeds directly from the ground, and moves around an area foraging for potential insect prey (6) .

Breeding generally occurs in spring and early summer, and males begin to display as early as February. Courtship displays are highly elaborate, with males flying to great heights and tumbling back down whilst performing a range of aerobatics, calling harshly and beating their wings rapidly to flash their brilliantly coloured wings and tail (5). Eggs are usually laid in April in a hole in a tree or other structure, and are incubated for a period of up to 20 days, with young generally fledging after a period of 35 days. Although groups of Indian rollers are rarely seen, family groups may form, and communicate with a series of loud ‘chack’ calls, which become harsher and more regular during times of threat. When bathing, this species is often seen diving in to water from a great height, a behaviour which was once interpreted as fishing (5) .

Indian roller range

The Indian roller is, as its name suggests, found in India; however, it is also found across much of southern Asia, from China, Vietnam and Malaysia, west to Iraq and Saudi Arabia (2) .

Indian roller threats

As the Indian roller is a fairly widespread bird across Asia and is not known to have any global threats, it is not currently considered to be at risk of extinction (1).

Indian roller conservation

The Indian roller is found in a number of protected areas across its range, including Ba Be National Park and Na Hang Nature Reserve in Vietnam (7). and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary in Bangladesh (8). In addition, it is the state bird of the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Orissa (9) (10). and is also considered sacred by Hindus (4). Both of these facts should mean a high level of awareness of this species amongst the general public in certain areas, something which will be of great benefit if this species requires conservation action in the future.

Import Subscribers to a List

Every new MailChimp list starts out pretty empty, but not for long. Our List Import Builder can help you quickly upload and organize an email marketing audience.

If your MailChimp list already has subscribed contacts, that s great too. Our auto-update import feature can help you add new people to your list and update the information of current subscribers at the same time.

In this article, you ll learn how to import subscribers to your MailChimp list.

Before You Start

Here s what you ll need to add subscribed contacts to MailChimp.

The names and email addresses of people who have opted in to receive your email marketing.

A blank sheet in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, saved or exported as a comma separated value (CSV) file.

How to Import Subscribers

A list import has a couple of steps. First, you ll prepare your spreadsheet file of contacts outside of MailChimp, and save it as a CSV file. Next, you ll use our handy List Import Builder to add your contacts to MailChimp.

Prepare for Import

To prepare your file for import, follow these steps.

In a spreadsheet program like Excel or Sheets, open your blank worksheet.

Next to your EmailAddress column, create and label additional columns for FirstName. and LastName.

Email Address is the only field that we require, but you can repeat this step for any other subscriber data fields you want to include in MailChimp, like phone number, birthday, language, address, or country.

Save the file in CSV format. This option can usually be accessed from the File menu in your spreadsheet program, labeled as Export as .CSV or Download as .CSV . Different spreadsheet programs will vary a little bit. If you use another file type, we won t be able to process the file.

Now that you ve completed these steps, you re ready to import the CSV file to your MailChimp list.

Need some help saving your spreadsheet file in CSV format before you import? Check out these CSV tips from Excel and Sheets. Or, download our sample CSV import file and replace the sample emails with your own data.

Certain fields, like birthday and date, must be formatted in a specific way. For example, to add a birthday field to your MailChimp list, dates should be formatted in your spreadsheet as MM/DD (Month/Day). Read our format guidelines for more tips about special fields.

Import to MailChimp

You ve got your file set up correctly, so now you ll log in to your MailChimp account and use our List Import Builder to upload your file.

To upload your subscribed contacts to MailChimp, follow these steps.

Click the drop-down menu next to the list you want to work with, and choose Import .

Choose CSV or tab-delimited text file .

If your last import was a CSV with the same columns, you can click Use settings from last import. which will allow you to skip steps 7-11.

Check the box next to I understand that my billing plan may be automatically upgraded. Your account will only be upgraded if your list import causes your subscriber count to exceed your current billing plan .

Click Next to go to the Import Subscribers step and match the columns in your import file to the fields in your MailChimp list.

Click Save for the Email Address column. We automatically match the column in your import file that contains email addresses to the required Email Address field in your list.

On the second column, check that the column name and field type are correct, and click Save. Or click the drop-down menu to select a different field type. To create a new column in your list, choose New Column Name .

The editing pane for each column includes the current column name, field type, and example data from your list, for your reference. To exclude a column from the final import, click Skip .

Repeat Step 9 for all unmatched columns. You must match or skip all columns to complete your import. After you re finished matching, we ll display a success message.

Click Next to review your final import settings.

On the You re all set to import! screen, review the settings for your import. Be sure to keep the Subscribed option selected.

After you ve reviewed your settings, click Import .

After the import is finished, we ll send your Primary Account Contact an email notification. Be sure to check out the Lists page in your account to see all your new subscribers.

Subscribers who are imported to a list don t go through the double opt-in process. so you ll need to verify that you have permission to email them. Imported subscribers don t receive any signup response emails or the Final welcome email .

When you import new subscribers to an existing list, we ll remove any duplicate, bounced, or unsubscribed addresses that are already stored in the list.

Because all lists in MailChimp are independent of each other, we can t detect duplicates, bounces, or unsubscribes across multiple lists. If you have duplicate subscribers in different lists, you may find it helpful to combine your lists into a master list that uses groups.

How to Auto-Update a List

After you ve had some subscribers in your list for a while, their data might change. Luckily, our auto-update import feature helps you update the information of multiple subscribers at once.

Auto-update replaces the list field information with information from your import file, so you can quickly update information from your CRM or other database. Like a regular import, you ll gather your contacts, prepare your spreadsheet, and add them to MailChimp with our List Import Builder.

On the final step of the import, you ll check the box next to Auto-update my existing list. and click Import. That s it! We ll handle the rest by scanning your list and updating subscriber information.

Be careful when you auto-update. You ll need to verify that your import column names match your MailChimp list field names and that no fields are blank. Blank fields overwrite existing subscriber data with blanks, erasing your old information.

Reverse Mortgage Lenders List

Welcome to Reverse Mortgage Lenders List. Our site features licensed reverse mortgage lenders in all 50 states.

What is a Reverse Mortgage?

A reverse mortgage, also referred to as a home equity conversion mortgage (HECM), is a home loan that lets borrowers convert some of the equity in a home into cash or a line of credit. The equity built up over years of making mortgage payments can be paid back to the homeowner. However, unlike a traditional home equity loan or second mortgage, reverse mortgage borrowers do not have to make monthly payments on the HECM loan until the they no longer use the home as their principal residence or fail to meet the stated obligations of the mortgage such as keeping the property in shape, making tax payments or paying HOA fees and homeowners insurance. A Reverse Mortgage Purchase Loan can also be used to purchase a primary residence if you are able to use cash on hand to pay the difference between the HECM proceeds and the sales price plus closing costs for the property you are purchasing.

Featured Reverse Mortgage Lenders

  • AAG Reverse Mortgage – Based out of Orange, California, they are one of the top 10 reverse mortgage lenders in the country.

Legumes Allergies

by JENNI WILTZ Last Updated: Jan 28, 2015

Jenni Wiltz’s fiction has been published in “The Portland Review,” “Sacramento News & Review” and “The Copperfield Review.” She has a bachelor’s degree in English and history from the University of California, Davis and is working on a master’s degree in English at Sacramento State. She has worked as a grant coordinator, senior editor and advertising copywriter and has been a professional writer since 2003.

Legumes Photo Credit Liquidlibrary/liquidlibrary/Getty Images

Virtually 90 percent of all food allergies are reactions to nuts, dairy products, soy, wheat, fish or shellfish, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Legumes encompass all soy and peanut allergies; other legumes include beans, lentils and licorice products. These allergies are particularly hard to deal with because many foods contain peanut or soy oils or were manufactured on equipment that also processed peanut- or soy-based products. Managing a legume allergy requires lots of label reading and a carefully monitored diet.

Food Allergies

Food allergies happen when your body s immune system interprets a particular food as an enemy and tries to fight it. As a reaction to the allergen, your immune system produces antibodies that attach to specific types of cells basophils, found in your blood; and mast cells, found in your skin, digestive tracts, the ears, nose and throat. The antibodies cause these cells to produce certain chemicals; those chemicals cause your allergic symptoms. The symptoms occur as you eat and digest the food, in the places the food contacts your body. Reactions generally start in the mouth and move to the stomach as the food is digested, and then to the bloodstream and skin as the digested food is whisked through your body.

Misconceptions

Sometimes food allergies are confused with food intolerance. The symptoms are often the same; the difference is how those symptoms are triggered. If your immune system triggers the attack, you have a food allergy. If your immune system is not involved, you have a food intolerance. Food intolerance is much more common than food allergy; according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, only about 4 percent of adults and 6 percent to 8 percent of toddlers have food allergies. Your doctor can determine which condition you actually have.

Peanut Allergies

Peanut allergies are among the most serious of food allergies, with complications that can lead to death. People who are allergic to peanuts experience a reaction within minutes of eating, touching or even breathing air contaminated with peanut products. Common symptoms include hives, tingling throat, stomach cramps and anaphylaxis a serious condition that causes wheezing, fainting and low blood pressure. Mild attacks can be treated with drugstore antihistamine pills. Severe attacks need an injection of epinephrine.

Soybean Allergies

Soy allergies are hard to fight because soybeans are used as product fillers in many processed foods. From dry cereal to infant formula to deli meat, you ll find soy in many places you wouldn t expect. Reactions to soy allergies are usually less severe than peanut allergies; anaphylaxis is rare. Typical reactions include hives, wheezing, dizziness and swelling of the tongue and throat. These symptoms usually appear within a few minutes of eating a soy-based product and can be handled with store-bought antihistamines.

Foods That Contain Legumes

It sounds simple enough to avoid peanuts, soybeans or other legumes; what isn t so simple is avoiding foods made with their oils. Reading food labels in their entirety is the only way to avoid your allergens. Peanuts are often found in cookies, candy, and ethnic foods of African, Chinese or Thai origin. If your allergic reactions are severe, it s a good idea to avoid these foods in restaurants or at parties. You should also avoid foods with ingredients such as hydrolyzed plant or vegetable protein. Soybean oil is found in many Asian dishes, vegetable broth and tofu. Soy is often referred to as vegetable protein, plant protein, vegetable gum and vegetable starch; avoid all grocery-store items with these ingredients on the label. You can avoid many legume-based products by eating fresh meat and vegetables, and avoiding canned or processed foods.

How to Value SaaS Companies – Catalyst Investors #list #of #saas #companies

How to Value SaaS Companies

Software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies have had a great run over the course of the current business cycle. The sector has routinely traded at a multiple above five times revenue, even while having low or negative profit margins. From 2010 to 2013, market observers posited that valuation multiples in the sector were driven by growth alone – the faster the better – no matter how much cash burn it takes to achieve. Since the public market for software stocks hit a speed bump starting back in Q1 of 2014, however, there has been a general perception that profitability is becoming more of a factor in driving SaaS valuations. This awareness is driving capital allocation discussions at companies across the SaaS sector, both public and private. Should a company raise money to “keep its foot on the gas?” Or should it perhaps slow growth a bit but make the move to “EBITDA-positive?”

We decided to crunch the data to see what the public market (aka the “DCF in the sky”) is really telling us about SaaS valuations. The full research report, “SaaS Investors: Mind the Valuation GAP (Growth at Any Price),” can be viewed on SeekingAlpha or downloaded here. We analyzed a group of 63 public SaaS companies and analyzed their operational performance and stock prices since 2005 (with “n” increasing as we get closer to the present). The analysis reveals three big takeaways:

  1. Even with a decline in valuation multiples since 2014, the average total enterprise value (TEV) to last twelve month (LTM) revenue multiple remains above its long term average of 5x.
  2. Using two regression models to develop a SaaS valuation “rule of thumb,” we find that revenue growth remains more than twice as important for determining valuation multiple than EBITDA margin .
  3. Throughout the analysis, we detected clear patterns as to which types of companies achieve higher-than-predicted multiples (based on the formulas) and which trade below their predicted multiples .

Historical Trends in SaaS Valuation and Company Performance

Examining the SaaS universe reveals a long term median valuation multiple around 5x LTM revenue, revenue growth rate of 28%, and median EBITDA margin of 5%.

Source: Capital IQ, authors’ calculations

While revenue growth has remained fairly steady around 30% throughout the period (outside of a dip to 20% in the aftermath of the Great Recession), valuation multiples and EBITDA margin have shown more variability. Prior to the Great Recession, SaaS multiples tended to trade in the 4.5x to 5x revenue range. They then plunged to 2x in the pit of the market crash in late 2008 / early 2009, rebounded to 5.5x to 6.5x in the recovery between late 2010 and early 2014, and then settled in closer to 5.5x since that time. EBITDA margins, while less volatile than valuation multiples, went through three regimes. Pre-recession, margins averaged around 5%. In its aftermath, they rose to around 10% (concomitant with the brief dip in revenue growth), and then turned negative during the recovery where they have remained since. While EBITDA margins were as low as negative 13% in late 2014, they have since narrowed to negative 6%. It should be noted that this narrowing of EBITDA margin has been in conjunction with a slight slowing in revenue growth.

Revenue Growth Continues to Drive Valuations

Our research examines a number of ways to evaluate and predict the valuations of SaaS companies. These include Dave Kellogg’s growth-based formula. Brad Feld’s Rule of 40% (which adds together revenue growth and EBITDA margin) and our own five-factor regression. Our five-factor model proved to be highly statistically significant, but unfortunately it’s a bit unwieldly to use as a quick valuation rule of thumb. We decided to also run a two-factor model, incorporating just revenue growth and EBITDA margin. While less statistically significant than the five-factor model, it ultimately gets us to a similar place. The formula is as follows:

The takeaway here is that unlike with the Rule of 40%, where revenue margin and EBITDA margin are equally weighted, we see that revenue growth is more than twice as large a valuation determinant as EBITDA margin. The result is a new, statistically-driven approach to benchmarking and valuing SaaS companies.

Market Leaders and ERP Earn Premium Valuations

If we plot the actual valuation multiples of the SaaS universe against their predicted values using the two-factor model, we get the following chart:

Source: Capital IQ, authors’ calculations

There is a certain group of outliers on the high end that tend to be either clear market leaders in a large horizontal or vertical space and / or are “back office” or enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms with lower-than-average customer churn. This group of “market darlings” includes Xero (XRO), ServiceNow (NOW), Workday (WKDY), Splunk (SPLK), Hubspot (HUBS), Netsuite (N), Ultimate Software (ULTI), AthenaHealth (ATHN), Salesforce.com (CRM), Adobe (ADBE), Veeva (VEEV), and 2U (TWOU).

There is also a group of “prove-its” . companies with strong enough metrics to be valued at more than 5x revenue, but are nevertheless trading at more than 20% below their predicted value. These include mostly vertical SaaS companies like ElliMae (ELLI) or TrackM8 (TRAK), unified communications software providers like Broadsoft (BSFT) and also developer platforms like HortonWorks (HDP) or AppFolio (APPF). Shopify (SHOP) also falls onto this list (probably because analysts forecasted a big drop in revenue growth next year), but regardless trades at a very high multiple.

There is a next group called the “underperformers” . These are companies that are both valued at less than 5x and are less than 80% of their predicted value. Most of these companies are more narrowly-focused “tools” (as opposed to platforms) that could potentially experience higher customer churn. This list includes “front office” solutions like Jive (JIVE), LivePerson (LPSN), and Bazaarvoice (BV), along with narrowly-focused vertical solutions like Intralinks (IL).

The analysis shows that the market valuation of SaaS companies exhibits a rational pattern over time. Outside of the Great Recession, market valuations have been relatively stable and the market has done a good job of distinguishing between the companies that should earn a premium and those that wind up receiving a discount. Given the predictable streams of recurring revenue that SaaS companies provide, the market has placed a premium on long term growth over profitability, yet has also sensed which companies are growing with more inherently attractive unit economics. So, while the market may say that SaaS companies are on average worth 5.5x revenue, not all SaaS companies are created equal. Revenue growth, EBITDA margin, and the type of software product are all key valuation drivers as well. The tools provided herein are intended to help SaaS investors make better valuation decisions and perhaps give CEOs a basis for their valuation expectations.
