MA in English (online programs) #masters #degree #in #english #online

The MA in English online programs function as professional or self-designed MA in English degrees. These degrees are primarily for students who intend the MA to be the terminal degree in preparation for a career or profession such as high school or middle school English teaching, two-year college teaching, freelance or professional writing, or editing and publishing.

We offer three tracks for the MA in English (online):

For those involved in or preparing for middle school English teaching, high school English teaching, AP teaching, two-year college teaching, or dual-enrollment programs (such as Ohio’s College Credit Plus program, among others).

For those interested in professional/technical writing careers in business and industry, or those interested in teaching professional writing and rhetoric at two-year colleges.

Features of our MA in English online programs:

  • Earn your entire degree online in a program designed to be taught and learned online.
  • Specialize in your areas of interest with faculty who are expert teachers and experts in their fields.
  • Our programs are perfect for distance learners from anywhere on the globe. (For local students, some courses can be taken face-to-face if the student chooses.)
  • Move at your own pace through your degree program; most students take one or two courses per semester, but up to three per semester is manageable.
  • Learn during your available time; courses don’t meet at a specific time of day or on specific days during the week, so they’re perfect for those currently working or with otherwise busy schedules.

INTERESTED IN ANY OF OUR PROGRAMS?

The Department also offers graduate certificate programs in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (offered only face-to-face). A student can earn such a certificate alongside the MA degree.

For students interested in an MA degree with a thesis project, see the MA in Literary and Textual Studies . a face-to-face degree program designed for those interested in literary and textual studies, teaching, possible PhD programs, digital humanities, etc.

Masters in Criminal Justice Jobs

Masters in Criminal Justice Jobs

The variety of career options open to someone who has completed a Master of Criminal Justice degree is not always easy to grasp. The management and administrative positions that are available throughout the criminal justice system extend well beyond law enforcement to court administration, probation management, and all of the supervisorial specializations associated with juvenile justice. Within other segments of the public sector there are opportunities for management of criminal justice programs at the state and local level. Criminal justice funds flow from the federal government through the state and into counties and cities for a variety of programs. Professionals who have studied criminal justice at the graduate level administer most of those programs.

  • Children’s Protective Services Supervisor. In every state either at the county or state level there is a strong oversight organization for children that have come to the court’s attention. The issue may be a parent with substance abuse problems, instances of child abuse, or neglect. The agency assigned to monitor care for these children provide counseling services but also functions as an enforcement arm. The people who manage these agencies or supervise sections of them are dedicated individuals.
  • Probation Supervisor. Probation departments are notorious for being understaffed and overloaded with cases. Probation officers in most counties or municipal court jurisdictions carry very heavy case loads. Playing a supervisorial role in such an environment is a real human resources challenge because morale is an important factor in a perpetually burdened environment. A probation supervisor must also work with court administrators on a daily basis to manage the constant influx of new cases and court decisions on pending cases. It’s an enormously challenging career.
  • Court Administrator. This job requires attention to a thousand details. A court administrator is responsible for the daily functions of each courtroom within his purview. That may mean oversight of the clerk’s office, the filing procedures, communicating with the bailiffs, the probation department, and managing the budget. Some jurisdictions prefer a court administrator with a law degree, but in most cases an education in criminal justice or a related field is acceptable; as with any industry a graduate degree is going to be more attractive to the hiring committee than a bachelor’s degree.
  • Criminal Justice Policy Coordinator. This is really a generic description for any number of positions that cities and counties find necessary as part of a criminal justice administrative program. It may have to do with coordinating incarceration policies, with managing federal or state funds mandated for criminal justice purposes, or it may be simply a liaison role with multiple jurisdictions. Because overcrowded courts, overcrowded jails and overburdened police are a constant local issue there are job opportunities within local legislative or executive bodies for professionals with knowledge of the system.
  • Police Management. This is obviously a job for a seasoned police officer that has worked his or her way through the ranks, the civil service exams and the promotional lists. But part of the process for securing a police administrative position today at a senior level is obtaining the necessary educational credentials. At some point career officers who have reached the level of inspector or sergeant are going to have to consider returning to school. The array of Master’s in Criminal Justice programs that make working and school mesh should provide opportunities to today’s mid-level police supervisors that were a difficult challenge to previous generations.

The University reserves the right to make changes to programme tuition fees and other charges each year (i.e. post the first year of entry to the course).
It may also make changes to programmes and their curriculum and structure, entry requirements and methods of delivery, and to discontinue, merge or combine programmes, both before and after a student’s admission to the University, if such action is reasonably considered necessary by the University.

If the University discontinues the programme prior to the student commencing the first term of study, the student may either:
    1. withdraw from the University without any liability for fees, including the application fee, or
    2. transfer to another programme offered by the University, subject to suitable qualifications and meeting entry requirements, availability of places and the Dean’s approval.

Programme tuition fees for the year of entry into a programme can be viewed at: http://www.ucd.ie/students/fees/index.html

When accepting an offer of a place on a programme with the University and School, students accept the University’s Terms and Conditions of Admission. They can also be viewed at: http://www.ucd.ie/registry/admissions/terms.html

    Student profile

This programme is suitable for graduates from technical disciplines such as, engineering, computer science and mathematics with a talent for and interest in finding mathematical or computer solutions to business problems. It is also suitable for business graduates who have studied Management Information Systems (MIS) subjects. The student profile also includes people with practical experience, who often use the programme to redirect their career.

The mix of full and part-time students from different backgrounds, working together on projects, makes the interaction between students an important and worthwhile part of the learning experience.

Available in one-year full-time and two-year part-time formats. For part-time students entering in September 2017, it requires class attendance during the working day (this is a change from previous years) so employer support is essential to undertake the part-time option.
