Military & Veteran Car Insurance Discounts

Military auto insurance

As a member of the U.S. Army or other branch of the armed services, you may be wondering whether there are car insurance discounts for those who have served in the military or are on active duty. Yes, some companies do offer auto insurance savings for military members and their families. The particular pricing, discounts, options and requirements vary among insurance companies, so be sure to shop around. In addition to military discounts or reduced pricing on car insurance for veterans, you may qualify for other cost savings as well.

Armed Forces Insurance Discounts: Who Qualifies?

You may qualify for military discounts whether you are on active duty or you are retired from military service. Some of the groups that may qualify for these discounts include:

  • National Guards
  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Navy
  • U.S. Marine Corps
  • Reserves
  • Coast Guard
  • Military veterans
  • Military spouses and family

The variables that may be taken into account when determining your armed forces insurance rates include whether your vehicle is garaged at home or on the military base, and whether you are active, deployed or retired.

Military Insurance During Deployment

In addition to asking about military car insurance discounts, ask your agent about how to maintain insurance if you are deployed. Additional discounts may be available to reduce your premium while you are on active duty overseas.

If you plan to stop coverage on your vehicle and keep it stored in a garage and out of use while on a tour of duty, be sure to talk directly with a knowledgeable agent about how best to stop or reduce your auto insurance. Many companies favor those who have had ongoing, uninterrupted insurance coverage. Therefore, it will be important to ensure that you do not experience a penalty for discontinuing your car insurance during your deployment.

Car Insurance for Veterans

If you are retired from military service, you may be eligible for retired military insurance discounts. Your agent will be able to find discounts available through your service or affiliation with retired personnel associations.

Available car insurance discounts for veterans will vary by state. Working with a local representative in your area can help ensure that you obtain any veterans discounts in your geographic area.

Military Insurance for Association Members

Be sure to talk with your agent about whether military car insurance discounts are available for members of associations, such as the National Military Family Association. If you are a member of the armed forces, or a family member of a military member, it may even be worthwhile to join one of these associations to get additional savings on your auto insurance.

Be sure to review all the auto insurance discounts that may be available to you, regardless of your current military standing.

How FHA and VA Loans Stack Up

The two government-backed loan programs have distinctions. VA loans offer no down payments and a federal guarantee while FHA mortgages can be obtained for 3.5% down and are insured through HUD.

When comparing government-backed mortgage programs, the differences between FHA and VA loans are clear.

VA Home Loans and FHA Mortgages Have Similarities and Differences

VA Home Loans Require:

  • As little as no cash down within conforming loan limits
  • No monthly private mortgage insurance premiums
  • A VA funding fee between .5 and 3.3% (some borrowers exempt)
  • Relaxed qualifying standards
  • Flexibility for all closing costs and up to 4% concessions may be paid by seller
  • Owner occupancy
  • VA benefit eligibility

FHA Mortgages Need:

  • 3.5% minimum down payment
  • Upfront mortgage insurance payment of 1.75% (just .01% for price-cut FHA Streamline)*
  • Monthly mortgage insurance premiums for a minimum of 5 years for most
  • Relaxed qualifying standards
  • Flexibility for all closing costs and up to 3% concessions may be paid by seller
  • Owner occupancy

No Money Down Sets VA Loans Apart

Currently, the conforming loan limit for VA loans is $417,000 in most parts of the country. FHA loans require at least 3.5% down. So, while a $200,000 VA loan can be obtained for no money down, an FHA loan of the same amount will cost a borrower about $7,000 in cash upfront.

VA Loans Require No Monthly Mortgage Insurance Premiums

VA borrowers never pay private mortgage insurance (PMI). Most FHA borrowers will be required to pay an Upfront Mortgage Insurance Premium (UFMIP) of 1.75% as well as monthly MIP of 1.2% or more for a minimum of 5 years for most loans. However, a recent change to the FHA Streamline Refinance program as of June 11, 2012 offers select FHA borrowers* with loans endorsed on or before May 31, 2009 reduced mortgage insurance premiums of just 1.25% UFMIP and .55% MIP. FHA loans with 15-year terms or less and loan-to-value ratios of 78% or less are exempt from monthly premiums.

The VA Funding Fee is Between .5% and 3.3%

A VA funding fee is required by most borrowers using VA home loan benefits. The percentage can vary based on first or repeat use of home loan benefits and whether the borrower is eligible as a result of regular military or Reserves/National Guard service. Regular military first-time benefit users pay 2.14% VA funding fee. All streamline refinances and VA loan assumptions have funding fees of just .5%. Qualified disabled vets and surviving spouses are exempt from the VA funding fee.

2 Easy Ways to Access Your Cash

Military payday loans

How Payday Loans Work, military payday loans.#Military #payday #loans

military payday loans

Payday loans are short-term cash loans based on the borrower’s personal check held for future deposit or on electronic access to the borrower’s bank account. Borrowers write a personal check for the amount borrowed plus the finance charge and receive cash. In some cases, borrowers sign over electronic access to their bank accounts to receive and repay payday loans.

Lenders hold the checks until the borrower’s next payday when loans and the finance charge must be paid in one lump sum. To pay a loan, borrowers can redeem the check by paying the loan with cash, allow the check to be deposited at the bank, or just pay the finance charge to roll the loan over for another pay period. Some payday lenders also offer longer-term payday instalment loans and request authorization to electronically withdraw multiple payments from the borrower’s bank account, typically due on each pay date. Payday loans range in size from $100 to $1,000, depending on state legal maximums. The average loan term is about two weeks. Loans typically cost 400% annual interest (APR) or more. The finance charge ranges from $15 to $30 to borrow $100. For two-week loans, these finance charges result in interest rates from 390 to 780% APR. Shorter term loans have even higher APRs. Rates are higher in states that do not cap the maximum cost.

Requirements to Get a Payday Loan

All a consumer needs to get a payday loan is an open bank account in relatively good standing, a steady source of income, and identification. Lenders do not conduct a full credit check or ask questions to determine if a borrower can afford to repay the loan. Since loans are made based on the lender’s ability to collect, not the borrower’s ability to repay while meeting other financial obligations, payday loans create a debt trap.

CFPB found that 80 percent of payday borrowers tracked over ten months rolled over or reborrowed loans within 30 days. Borrowers default on one in five payday loans. Online borrowers fare worse. CFPB found that more than half of all online payday instalment loan sequences default.

Payday Lenders

Payday loans are made by payday loan stores, or at stores that sell other financial services, such as check cashing, title loans, rent-to-own and pawn, depending on state licensing requirements. Loans are made via websites and mobile devices. CFPB found 15,766 payday loan stores operating in 2015.

Legal Status for Payday Lending

High cost payday lending is authorized by state laws or regulations in thirty-two states. Fifteen states and the District of Columbia protect their borrowers from high-cost payday lending with reasonable small loan rate caps or other prohibitions. Three states set lower rate caps or longer terms for somewhat less expensive loans. Online payday lenders are generally subject to the state licensing laws and rate caps of the state where the borrower receives the loan. For more information, click on Legal Status of Payday Loans by State.

Protections for Service Members and Dependents

Payday loans are not permitted for active-duty service members and their dependents. Federal protections under the Military Lending Act (MLA) for service members and their families took effect October 1, 2007 and were expanded October 3, 2016. Department of Defense ruless apply to loans subject to the federal Truth in Lending Act, including payday and title loans.. Lenders are prohibited from charging more than 36 percent annual interest including fees; taking a check, debit authorization or car title to secure loans; and using mandatory arbitration clauses in contracts for covered loans. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforces the MLA rules. To file a complaint, click here. See: CFA press release on revised MLA rules

Qualifying for a military loan

To determine if you qualify for a loan, we look at several factors including your debts, income and credit history. We also realize that some military members have poor credit—this is not an automatic denial. Most of our lending specialists are former military and they understand the military lifestyle challenges that can sometimes affect a person’s credit score. We look at loan applications on a case-by-case basis and will take certain things into consideration.

Our loans have federal APRs that range from competitively low digits percentages to a maximum of 35.95%. Rates vary and are dependent on credit score, debts, the amount and length of the loan, and past credit history. When compared to other military loan companies, you’ll find that Omni’s interest rates are very competitive.

Paying back an Omni military loan

Omni loans are installment loans. You’ll have fixed monthly payments so you’ll know just how much you’ll be expected to pay back each month. Repayment terms range from 6 to 36 months. That means there will be no surprises and you’ll be better able to budget yourself.

To find out which program suits you best, contact an approved lender.

Under certain circumstances, the federal government will cancel all or part of an educational loan. This practice is called Loan Forgiveness. To qualify, you must:

  • Perform volunteer work
  • Perform military service
  • Teach or practice medicine in certain types of communities
  • Meet other criteria specified by the forgiveness program

These volunteer organizations offer loan forgiveness:

AmeriCorps. Serve for 12 months and receive up to $7400 in stipends plus $4725 to be used towards your loan.

Peace Corps. Volunteers may apply for deferment of Stafford, Perkins and Consolidation loans and partial cancellation of Perkins Loans (15% for each year of service, up to 70% in total). Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of real people with two years of service in more than 70 developing countries.

Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). Volunteer with private, non-profit groups that help eradicate hunger, homelessness, poverty and illiteracy. Provide 1700 hours of service and receive $4725.

Students who are in the Army National Guard may be eligible for their Student Loan Repayment Program, which offers up to $10,000. (Note, the military and veterans’ associations provide many scholarships and tuition assistance programs. See the section on Military Aid for details.)

Students who become full-time teachers in an elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families can have a portion of their Stafford or PLUS loans forgiven under The National Defense Education Act. This program forgives up to $17,500 of the remaining loan balance.

The American Federation of Teachers maintains a list of other loan forgiveness programs for teachers.

The American Federation of Teachers maintains a list of other loan forgiveness programs for teachers.

Legal and Medical Studies

The US Department of Health and Human Services offers loan forgiveness programs through the National Health Service Corps and the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program. These programs offer loan forgiveness to physicians and registered nurses who agree to practice for a set number of years in areas that lack adequate medical care (including remote and/or economically depressed regions).

The US National Institutes of Health’s NIH Loan Repayment Programs repays up to $35,000/year of student loan debt for US citizens who are conducting clinical medical research.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) offers loan forgiveness of $25,000 per year for three years for veterinarians who commit to work in a veterinary shortage area for three years.

Many hospitals and private healthcare facilities use loan forgiveness to recruit occupational and physical therapists. Contact the American Physical Therapy Association or the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Federal Government Loan Forgiveness Programs

See the US Department of Education’s pages on Cancellation/Deferment Options for Teachers. Also, the US Department of Education maintains a database of low-income schools eligible for teacher loan cancellation for Perkins and Stafford loans.

The Federal Student Loan Repayment Program allows federal agencies to establish loan forgiveness programs to help recruit and retain employees. This is technically a loan repayment program and not a loan forgiveness program, as the agencies make payments directly to the loan holder and the payments represent taxable income to the employee. The agencies can repay up to $10,000 in Federal student loans per employee per calendar year, with a cumulative maximum of $60,000 per employee.

Some, but not all, loan forgiveness is excluded from income. See Taxability of Student Loan Forgiveness for additional details.

Student Loan Consolidation

Consolidation Loans combine several student or parent loans into one bigger loan from a single lender, which is then used to pay off the balances on the other loans. They also provide an opportunity for alternative repayment plans, making monthly payments more manageable.

Consolidation loans are available for most federal loans, including Stafford, PLUS and SLS, FISL, Perkins, Health Professional Student Loans, NSL, HEAL, Guaranteed Student Loans and Direct loans. Some lenders offer private consolidation loans for private education loans as well.

The interest rate on a consolidation loan is the weighted average of the interest rates on the loans being consolidated, rounded up to the nearest 1/8 of a percent. That interest rate is fixed for life.

For example, suppose a student has just unsubsidized Stafford Loans originated on or after July 1, 2006. These loans have a fixed interest rate of 6.8%. When they are consolidated by themselves, the consolidation loan will have an interest rate of 6 and 7/8ths of a percent, or 6.875%. So the interest rate increases only slightly.

If the borrower has a mix of loans with different interest rates, the weighted average will be somewhere in between. For example, if the borrower has $5,000 of Perkins Loans (at 5.0%) and $10,000 of unsubsidized Stafford Loans (at 3.86%), the weighted average is

This weighted average, 4.2%, is then rounded up to the nearest 1/8th of a percent, yielding a consolidation loan interest rate of 4.25%.

If you are consolidating loans with different interest rates, the weighted average interest rate will always be in between. Don’t be fooled if someone tries to suggest that this will save you money by getting you a lower interest rate. The interest rate may be lower than the highest of your interest rates, but it is also higher than the lowest of your interest rates. More importantly, the amount of interest you pay over the lifetime of the loan will be about the same.

No Cost to Consolidate

Aside from a slight increase in the interest rate on the consolidation loan, there is no cost to consolidate your loans. There are no fees to consolidate.

Under no circumstances pay a fee in advance to get a federal education loan or consolidate your federal education loans. There are no fees to consolidate your loans. While other federal education loans, such as the Stafford and PLUS loans, may charge some fees, the fees are always deducted from the disbursement check. There is never an upfront fee. If someone wants you to pay an upfront fee, chances are that it is an example of an advance fee loan scam.

Who Can Consolidate

Both student and parent borrowers can consolidate their education loans. Students and parents cannot combine their loans through consolidation, since only loans from the same borrower can be consolidated. But they can consolidate their loans separately.

Students can consolidate their education loans only during the grace period or after the loans enter repayment. Loans that are in default but with satisfactory repayment arrangements may also be consolidated. Students can no longer consolidate while they are still in school. Parents, however, can consolidate PLUS loans at any time.

Which Loans Can be Consolidated?

Any federal education loan can be consolidated. You can even consolidate a single loan. There are, however, a few restrictions on consolidating a consolidation loan.

You can consolidate a consolidation loan only once. In order to reconsolidate an existing consolidation loan, you must add loans that were not previously consolidated to the consolidation loan. You can also consolidate two consolidation loans together. But you cannot consolidate a single consolidation loan by itself.

Note that when you reconsolidate a consolidation loan, it does not relock the rates on the consolidation loan. The consolidation loan is treated as a fixed rate loan within the weighted average interest rate formula used to calculate the interest rate on the new consolidation loan.

Consolidation loans provide access to several alternate repayment plans besides standard ten-year repayment. These include extended repayment, graduated repayment, income contingent repayment (Direct Loans only) and income sensitive repayment (FFEL only). If you do not specify the repayment terms, you will receive standard ten-year repayment.

Consolidation loans often reduce the size of the monthly payment by extending the term of the loan beyond the 10-year repayment plan that is standard with federal loans. Depending on the loan amount, the term of the loan can be extended from 12 to 30 years. The reduced monthly payment may make the loan easier to repay for some borrowers. However, by extending the term of a loan the total amount of interest paid over the lifetime of the loan is increased.

You do not need to pick an alternate repayment plan. We recommend sticking with standard ten-year repayment, because it will save you money. The alternate repayment plans may have lower monthly payments, but this increases the term of the loan and the total interest paid over the lifetime of the loan.

Repayment on a consolidation loan will begin within 60 days of disbursement of the loan, unless the borrower qualifies for a deferment or forbearance.

Military Auto Loans for All Types of Credit

Just military loansMilitary auto loans are advantageous over regular car loans. Some people even think that the offers in military car loans are unfair compared to regular auto loans. The truth is, it is not unfair. As mentioned earlier, auto loans for the military are specially designed for them. It also serves as thanks to the exceptional work they are doing for the country. Here are some of the great benefits that you can enjoy with a military auto loan.

A military car loan naturally has low interest rates. Low here means lower than the interest rates offered in regular loans. This is possible because military lenders consider military work as stable job. Consequently, your income is also deemed as stable. Remember that these two factors are greatly considered by lenders when they are approving a loan application for a low interest rate. With the kind of job that you guys have, military lenders feel financially secured. This means that they are somehow given the assurance that there will be regular payments. Also, you will be able to save up a lot of money with low interest rates.

Another amazing thing about car loans for military is borrowers like you get easily approved. The reason for this is the low credit score requirement. The credit score which is considered bad in regular car loans is a good credit in military car loans. This is a result of the considerations that military lenders make. We consider your changing of locations from time to time and being designated in remote areas which mainly hinder you from making payments on time. We at militarycarloans.net know that your nature of work makes it hard for you to build a good credit. That is why the credit score requirement is lessened.

You also get to enjoy flexible payment terms. This includes the loan term and repayment terms. You can choose to make payments in a longer period of time. If you do this, your monthly payments are made less. You would not have to worry about paying quite a large amount every month. You can also appeal for a more convenient repayment terms. We can give you an option to delay your payment in times when it is impossible for you to do so. We do not penalize military borrowers here. We at militarycarloans.net are here to help! We know that due to the demands of your job, there would not be any banks accessible for you to make your payments. That is why you have the option to delay the payment. Borrowers in regular loans normally get penalized for missed payments.

Military auto loans are extended to all members of military service as long as they are in active service. Some loan companies specializing in military car loans consider a military member who was just recently enlisted as eligible. The time period of active service required for military auto loan eligibility varies in different loan companies. The credit report is not really as significant as it is with regular auto loans. Veteran military members can also take advantage of this type of loan. The car loan offers for them are more advantageous.

Are not these benefits overwhelming? You know where to find them. Military auto loans are available online and you can easily browse their offers. The application process is also easy. This is because the process does not undergo a lot of steps before they give you the result.

Of particular interest is the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA). It provides up to 45 months of education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. To be eligible, you must be the son, daughter, or spouse of a veteran who died or is permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability, or who died while such a disability was in effect, or is MIA or captured in the line of duty by a hostile force, or is forcibly detained or interned in the line of duty by a foreign government or power. Sons and daughters must be between the ages of 18 and 26. Spousal benefits end 10 years from the date the VA finds the spouse as eligible or from the date of death of the veteran. To apply, complete VA Form 22-5490, Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance. For more information, call 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551).

Updated annually by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the publication Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents contains information about education and training benefits available to veterans and eligible dependents. [VA Pamphlet 80-02-1, 114 pages, Stock Number 051-000-00225-3.]

The booklet may be obtained free of charge from VA hospitals or regional offices. To request a copy, visit your nearest VA facility, call 1-800-827-1000 or write to Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Public Affairs (80D), 810 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20420. The publication can also be purchased for $5.00 ($6.25, international customers) from the US Government Printing Office, Superintendent of Documents, PO Box 371954, Pittsburgh, PA 15250-7954.

Other organizations that offer educational assistance to military personnel, veterans and their dependents include:

  • Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation . Offers more than 1,600 scholarships a year totaling about $5 million to children of members of the Marine Corps who have been killed or wounded in combat or who demonstrate financial need.

    Military Same Day Loans

Military same day Loans are one of the best military loans ever provided to the men and women who are active in the service and are in need of immediate cash.

These types of loans are sometimes given to military personnel who are not qualified for a specific type of loans or sometimes do not have access or cannot take advantage of some loans at the time of the request.

There are a couple of problems associated with getting Military Same Day Loans. One of the indicated problems is the prequalification process needed to meet some of the standards set for people requesting for this type of loan.

Now that more and more companies and financial institutions are involved, including the American Veterans Administration and some other government agencies, the requirements and initial qualification for Military Same Day Loans have become more accessible.

The hassle of picking up or gathering all required papers, the problem of getting authorization letters, etc. are all part of the old process which is now a thing of the past.

Where to Get Military Same Day Loans

Since many companies are now in competition to offer the same amount of convenience and more flexible paying mode to service men, more and more soldiers are able to take advantage of this type of loan services and get all the benefits it has to offer.

One good thing about the Military Same Day Loan is its convenience and hassle-free experience in the request process and receipt of payment. You can request from a hundred dollars up to a thousand dollars in advance for your salary.

The amount may not always commensurate to the current salary you have, and higher amounts may sometimes be extended even to the lowest rank among the service men. What is also good about this loan is its flexibility in terms of payment arrangements.

You can pay in installments or in bulk when you have the money to cover the entire cost of the money borrowed. Interest should also be paid but the amount is relatively reasonable.

    Worry-Free Process

These loans are so flexible that almost any soldier may be able to take advantage of them. As discussed above, even to the new servicemen of low rank. Services are extended and almost the same amount of privileges are given to everyone.

The maximum amount that can be borrowed may be $1000 cash. That is most often the maximum. Although more than the maximum amount might be given in special cases. Just be careful not to borrow more than you can afford to repay on schedule.

    What’s The Time Frame?

Are these really Same Day loans? Yes these are given real-time at the day of the request and may only take less than a half hour. As long as you have the required minimum documentation in order to be identified then your request for the loan will be immediate and free from hassle or inconvenience.

The loans are also private, and some military personnel prefer to take out these loans rather than try to borrow from a friend or an acquaintance. While there have been some cutbacks to the amount of free services given to the military, same day military loans are given to cover the cost of some immediate cash needs from services and other billing (electric bills, tuition fees, medical expenses, etc).

    How Is The Interest Rate?

Due to the type of service given and the relatively low interest rate, these loans might bee seen as another benefit that only military people can enjoy. This type of loan is exclusive for them and is only given an incredibly low interest percentage for each loan given.

In some cases, this loan can be extended for a few months in order to give chance to some service men who really are experiencing financial difficulties. Also, non-payment may not cause any outstanding issues and request for the same loan can de done upon settling any outstanding loans.

In some special circumstances, such as hospitalization, some military men are still able to request this kind of loan even though they already have an existing loan of the same type.

The Ins and Outs of Military Car Loans

    Military.com | by Ho Lin

So the time has come to purchase that vehicle you’ve had your eye on — but what kind of loan should you get to pay for it? Any quick search on the Internet brings up literally hundreds of companies that offer loans, and some also offer military car loans. What are these military car loans about, and what advantages do they offer? Read on.

The main differentiator between a military car loan and a regular car loan is simple: the military car loan is only for those who are currently serving on active duty, or are a military retiree (20 years or more served). But what sets them apart from the usual car loan?

Low Interest Rates – Military car loans generally have lower interest rates than other types of loans. Here’s a quick example about the power of interest rates: If you take out a $15,000 loan to be paid off within four years at a 10% interest rate, you’ll end up paying $380.44 a month, or $18,261.12 total when all’s said and done. If you have the same exact loan at a 7% interest rate, you’ll end up paying $356.19 per month, or $17,241.12 total. A few percentage points equals a few hundred bucks a year, which can make a big difference when you’re trying to balance your budget.

Low Down Payment – Military car loans can offer a lower down payment compared to regular loans, which means you’re required to pay less money up front. This can come in handy if you don’t have a lot saved up to buy your vehicle.

Easier Approval – If your credit rating is lower than average, or you have a limited credit history, you may have an easier time getting approval with a military car loan compared to a regular car loan. In most cases you can apply for a loan and get approved online.

Longer payment periods – Military car loans are also known to have relatively longer repayment periods, which means that you’ll have lower monthly payments.

Additional discounts and rebates – Some lending companies also have discounts and rebates if your car loan is used to buy a new vehicle.

    The Cons

Having noted all the advantages of military auto loans, take heed: these loans may not be for you if you fall into one of the following categories:

If you have enough or nearly enough money to buy a car outright – If you can pay for the full amount for your vehicle up front without putting yourself in financial hardship, the amount you’ll save on interest rates alone ($7,000-$8,000 from the above example) makes it worth it. And if you almost have enough but not quite, it’s worth it to scrimp and save for a few extra months. Put yourself on a budget plan and contribute more money each month to your auto fund.

Loan Risks – They may call them military auto loans, but these loans are offered by private financial institutions, so you’re subject to the same rules and potential penalties as a civilian taking out a loan. On top of that, an auto loan, unlike an unsecured debt, cannot be written off by filing for bankruptcy. If you end up defaulting on your loan, it will severely damage your credit rating and ability to take out loans in the future.

Tips to Getting a Military Car Loan:

    1. Know which vehicle you want to buy before applying for a loan. This will also help you determine exactly how much of a loan you want.

    2. Do some comparison shopping – Don’t apply for a loan from the first institution you run into. Check a few places out, and see if they offer favorable terms for your specific situation.

    3. Get your proof of eligibility in order – Make sure you have your military ID and proofs of service handy. You’ll also need your social security number and permanent address.

    4. Your contact information – The institution you’re taking out the loan from will want to keep in touch with you, no matter where you’re stationed, so be sure you have several addresses where you can be contacted at (i.e. your family’s home, your base).

    5. Your credit report — Get a credit report that you can hand off to the lending institution. Some lenders may do this for you, but you can also get a free credit report at freecreditreport.com.

    6. The sign-off – If you are out of the country or cannot sign your loan in person, be sure that you assign power of attorney to someone to sign on your behalf, as well as a copy of your driver’s license. Some states may also require notarization.

    Programs for Military

    Post 9/11 G.I. Bill

The “Post 9/11 G.I. Bill” is one of the student aid programs for military service members.  This program provides significant new educational benefits for service members on active duty and after active duty. Military service members who have served an aggregate of at least 90 days on active duty in the Armed Forces are eligible. The benefit amounts vary depending on the amount of service. Those who serve for 36 months are eligible for 100% of benefits.

Service must have occurred on or after September 11, 2001. Service members who are serving on active duty are eligible as well as those who completed their service or were discharged or released. Only certain types of discharges and releases qualify, including honorable discharges or discharges or releases for certain medical conditions or hardships. Those still on active duty may be better served using the existing benefits. You should check with the Department of Veterans Affairs for more information .  The V.A. also has a G.I. Bill feedback system if you have questions or concerns.

In order to qualify, students must be pursuing an approved program of education as defined in the law. Benefit amounts are equal to the charges for the program of education, except that the amount may not exceed the maximum amount charged for in-state undergraduate students in the state where the student is enrolled. Students may receive money not only for tuition, but in many cases for housing, books and supplies, and possibly even a relocation payment. In certain situations, this benefit may be transferred to the service member’s spouse and one or more children.

The time period to use these benefits expires at the end of the 15 year period beginning on the date of the last discharge or release from active duty.

    Limits on Interest Accrual

The Higher Education Act prohibits interest accrual while eligible military service members are serving on active duty during a war, military mobilization, or national emergency. This benefit applies only to Direct loan borrowers and only for loans first disbursed on or after October 1, 2008. Borrowers with FFEL loans may consolidate into the Direct Loan program to take advantage of this benefit.

    Military Service Deferment

This deferment is available in all three loan programs, FFEL, Direct and Perkins. It is available to military service members on active duty during a war, other military operation or national emergency, members of the National Guard called to active duty during a war, military operation or national emergency and reserve or retired members of the Armed Forces called to active duty during a war, military operation or national emergency.

This deferment may be granted based on a request from the borrower or the borrower’s representative. Borrowers or their representatives must submit a deferment form signed by an authorized official. Alternatively, the borrower may submit a copy of military orders or a statement from a commanding or personnel officer proving that the borrower is serving on active duty during a war, military mobilization, or national emergency.

There is no time limit on the military deferment. (The previous three year time limit was eliminated in 2007). The eligibility period ends 180 days after the borrower is demobilized from active duty service.

Some borrowers called to active duty will not be eligible for military deferments.  To help address this gap, there is a mandatory forbearance available to National Guard members who qualify for the post-active duty deferment (see below). but do not qualify for a military or other deferment.

    Active Duty Student Deferment

This should be called “Post-Active Duty Deferment” because it is for borrowers who are enrolled in school when they are called to active duty and plan to re-enroll after they have completed their service.

This deferment is available in all three loan programs, FFEL, Direct and Perkins. Eligible borrowers include members of the National Guard and reserve or retired members of the Armed Forces called to active duty at the time, or within six months prior to the time, that they were enrolled in school. These borrowers may receive a deferment for up to 13 months following completion of active duty military service and any applicable grace period.  The period expires at the earlier of a borrower’s re-enrollment in school or the end of the 13 month period.

Similar to the military service deferment, the borrower must be on active duty to qualify for this deferment. But unlike the military service deferment, activation during a war or other military operation or national emergency is not required.

The deferments page of this site contains more information about the range of deferment options for all borrowers.

Additional Options for Active Duty Military Service Members and Certain Civilians

These additional options are available to members of the national guard called to active duty, reserve or retired members of the Armed Forces called to active duty, active duty members of the Armed Forces who are reassigned and certain civilians. The active duty service must be in connection with a war, military operation or national emergency. Eligible civilians are those who reside or are employed in an area that is declared a disaster area by any federal, state or local official in connection with a national emergency or who suffered direct economic hardship as a direct result of a war, other military operation or national emergency.

There are a number of ways in which schools and financial aid officers may assist these borrowers, including:

    Key Loan-Related Provisions:

    Grace Periods

Initial grace periods can be extended for up to three years.

    In-school Deferments

    Forbearance

The three year limit on Perkins forbearances is eliminated for these borrowers. In addition, they are entitled to forbearances for up to one year without having to provide documentation or to sign a written agreement. These forbearances can be granted based on the borrower’s written or oral request or the request of a family member or other reliable source.

Loan holders are required to engage in certain collection actions once a borrower is delinquent or in default. These requirements are waived for qualified service members and civilians as long as they (or a family member or reliable source) inform the loan holder of their service.

    Cancellation

Some of the job-related cancellations require borrowers to work in a certain career field for a specific length of time. This requirement is waived for affected individuals if the reason for the interruption is related to the borrower’s service.   There are federal loan cancellations tied to military service available in the Perkins loan program .  Military service is also considered public service for purposes of the Direct Loan public service cancellation .

    Rehabilitation

To successfully rehabilitate a loan, a borrower must make nine consecutive reasonable and affordable payments during a ten month period. An interruption in this consecutive period is allowed for qualifying military service members or affected civilians. These borrowers may resume their rehabilitation payments after their service is completed.

    Consolidation of Defaulted Loans

Direct Loan borrowers in default may consolidate their loans if they either make three affordable monthly payments or agree to repay under the Income Contingent repayment or Income based plans. An interruption in this consecutive period is allowed for qualifying military service members or affected civilians. These borrowers may resume their payments after their service is completed.

Some states also have programs to help active duty military so that they may take leaves of absence from school without penalty. Some states also require schools to provide refunds or tuition credits to service members called to duty.

    Servicemember Civil Relief Act

Some rights available under the Servicemember Civil Relief Act are also relevant. Any individual on active duty is entitled to the benefits, whether or not they are stationed in a war zone. Important rights include:

    1. Creditors must reduce the interest rates to 6% on an obligation incurred by a servicemember before active duty. The reduction lasts as long as the servicemember is on active duty. These protections apply to student loans, as well as to most other types of debt, including car loans, mortgages, credit cards and business debts. Any interest reduced as a result of this law should be forgiven, not just deferred.  For federal student loans, the 6% interest reduction only applies to borrowers in military service as of August 14, 2008.  According to the Department of Education, borrowers may not receive a refund of interest paid in excess of the 6% limit before August 14, 2008.   The Department announced in August 2014  that it will now apply the interest rate limitation to accounts of eligible borrowers without a request from the borrower.  FFEL lenders and servicers are authorized and encouraged to do the same.
    2. The Act gives relief to servicemembers facing collection actions .

In October 2012, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued a report about problems with student loan servicing for military service members.  The CFPB also has a guide  for servicemembers with student loans.

    MILITARY LOANS

Can I Get Military Loans With Bad Credit?

Are you looking for a military loan but have a troubled credit history?

If you’ve made mistakes in the past that affect your credit, you’re not alone; thousands of military servicemembers get nervous when filling out a credit application. Here’s the good news; there are ways to salvage your credit and make yourself more attractive as a borrower. The not-so-good news? Some of techniques require time to work. If you start working to repair your credit before you need it, you stand a much better chance of getting approved for a military loan, a VA home loan, military auto loan or other types of credit.

    YOUR CREDIT REPORT

The first place to start fixing your credit is with one of the three major credit reporting agencies; Equifax, TransUnion or Experian. Did you know you’re entitled to a free copy of your credit report? This is required by law—you can’t be kept in the dark about your credit rating. Contact Equifax, TransUnion or Experian and take a long look at your report. Some people find errors on their report that could disqualify them from a military loan or VA home loan unless disputed and removed. Those errors can include legitimate bad credit information which should have been dropped from your credit report after a standard period of time or bad credit information that should be on someone else’s report but somehow wound up on yours.

You may notice bad credit reports on accounts you never opened. Are you a victim of identity fraud? How do you know for sure? Sometimes the only way to detect identity theft is by reading your credit report. If you find bad information about accounts opened without your permission, contact the credit agency’s fraud investigation department and begin a complaint. Depending on the credit agency, you may be required to file a police report and furnish copies or a case number to start the credit union’s investigation. While the items on your credit report are in dispute, they may be temporarily removed from your report until the end of the process. This can help you during a credit check, but ideally you should be working to clear your credit report as early as possible before you attempt to get new credit.

    YOUR DEBT-TO-INCOME RATIO

Military home loans, military auto loans and other military lending products take your current income into account when the loan officer determines your credit risk. If you have too much debt and not enough income, the bank won’t give you a loan. To make yourself a better risk, decrease the amount of debts you have before you apply for a loan. For high-dollar military loans such as a VA mortgage or an auto loan, your debt potential may be a factor, too. If you have three credit cards with limits of $10,000 each, your debt potential is $30,000. It doesn’t matter that you carry low balances and make on-time payments; you can still get yourself into $30,000 of debt at any time. To make yourself a better credit risk, get rid of multiple credit cards and reduce your debt potential as much as possible.

    TIMELY PAYMENTS

When you apply for a military loan, you want to come to the lender with a history of on-time payments. If you start planning for a loan far in advance, you can insure a six-month payment history of timely bill paying. Even if you’ve had trouble in the past, the more history you have as a dependable credit risk, the better your chances of getting approved for that military loan. Missing a single payment may not damage your credit rating, but the more dependable you are, the better your chances.

When you apply for a military loan, your career in uniform goes a long way toward helping you get approved for a line of credit, but if you have a troubled credit history you’ll need to take the steps listed here to get you on the road to a better credit rating. Don’t assume you can’t get credit because of mistakes in your past; with some careful planning, a bit of research and timely payments, you can get the credit you deserve.

Military Car Loans are perfect for Armed Forces Personnel

Many people who are serving in the U.S. Military service may not be aware of military car loans that are specifically tailored to meet their requirements and come with lower interest rates and good pay back options. As armed forces personnel have a good job security, providers of car loans for military get a dependable source of revenue. Therefore, such providers in a bid to increase their low risk business offer reduced interest rates to the armed forces personnel.

Usually, car loans for military can be directly paid by the military allotment and this provides an added layer of security to the lender of such loans that their payments will be made on regular basis without any interruption.

Service members have much broader access to repayment options with better repayment terms. For example: service members can even postpone their monthly repayments as a deployed member of the service, by informing the lender and requesting readjustments due to the financial difficulties. This is very helpful if you applied for bad credit car loans for military, as standard loans for the civilians never come with such flexible terms. However, as a member of US service, you get a “benefit of doubt” when seeking lenient terms for your auto loan.

Often, military car loans are provided to service personnel at a bit lower credit score than standard civilian auto loans that are available through private lenders. Lenders are aware that due to frequent household and family re-locations and far off deployments, usual credit scoring mechanism that is used for other US citizens many not reflect the financial responsibility of a service member in an accurate way. Therefore, as a member of armed forces, you should apply for such military car loans with the lenders that are conversant with the military lending.

Online application process and approval: The application process for military car loan is very easy as you will have to visit the website of lender and enter the details like residential address, income proof and region where you are currently placed. You will also be asked to provide your contract information like email address, phone number. The online process is very easy and fast and you should do adequate research to find the sites that offer you the best deal.

Military Loans Offer Help on the Home Front

It’s difficult to place a dollar value on the work our men and women in uniform do every day defending our country. But one thing has held true from the American Revolution to the present — a military paycheck never goes as far as it should. Fortunately, there are lenders who specialize in helping military families make ends meet.

Military loans from a qualified lender offer fair rates with no hidden fees, and are available to all service branches and ranks, including Department of Defense (DOD) employees. A military loan is patterned on the time-honored “installment loan” model and offers a responsible alternative to sinking deeper into credit-card debt.

Legitimate military loans have fixed interest rates and repayment amounts, so you ll know exactly how much your loan will cost and when it will be paid off. A military loan will never require the borrower to put up their vehicle or house as collateral.

Military loans range from $500 to $10,000 and can be repaid in fixed, manageable monthly payments for up to 36 months. A legitimate provider of military loans will also comply with the 2007 Military Lending Act (MLA), as well as the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC) recommended APR cap on personal loans.

Interest rates for military loans can vary based on the borrower’s credit history, but are typically much lower than the rates incurred on most credit cards. And it’s very rare for any service member to be turned down for a loan based on a poor credit rating.

As long as the borrower is an active-duty service member with at least 18 months left in their enlistment, a military loan is within reach. Many military loans offer an interest-free loan of $1,000 for three months, or an APR of 9.95 percent for longer-term loans.

    Some common military loans include:

    • Disaster Relief Loan. for helping military personnel to get emergency funds after a natural disaster.
    • Bereavement Loan. which provides financial resources when you’re facing the loss of a loved one or dealing with a family emergency. This kind of loan requires a direct referral from your commander.
    • Home Leave Assistance Loan. designed to help military personnel get home to their families by providing funds for airline tickets, gas money, a hotel, or other necessities.
    • Convalescent Leave Loan  to cover expenses of wounded service members and costs incurred by their families.
    • Help Loan  in the form of a short-term, non-renewable loan designed to meet immediate cash needs. A typical Help Loan would be for $500 (non-renewable, non-rollover), to be repaid in four equal monthly payments (including a small service charge).

The best providers of military loans understand that members of the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard have unique demands placed on their finances, and those factors need to be taken into account when deciding upon an applicant’s credit worthiness. For men and women in the armed forces who would rather not max out their credit cards to pay for travel or other necessities, a military loan can be your best option.

Egypt gives Jared Kushner cold welcome after US cuts military aid

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry first snubbed then relented and met US presidential adviser – and Trump son-in-law – Jared Kushner. The US reportedly cut aid to Egypt due to human rights abuses.

    Us military aid by country

Cairo on Wednesday expressed regret over Washington’s decision to cut aid to Egypt on the eve of the US presidential adviser’s official visit aimed at reviving the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

“Egypt considers this step as a misjudgment of the nature of the strategic relations that binds the two countries over decades, and reflects the lack of understanding of the importance of supporting the stability and success of Egypt,” said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

According to US media, Washington blocked nearly $100 million (84.8 million euros) in military and economic aid and delayed the disbursement of nearly $200 million (169.6 million euros) due to Egypt’s lack of progress on human rights abuses.

The sum is noteworthy due to the amount of military aid Egypt receives from Washington. Egypt is the second-largest recipient of US aid behind Israel with approximately $1.5 billion annually.

The move “implies a mixing of cards that may have negative repercussions on achieving Egyptian-American common interests,” Egypt’s Foreign Ministry added.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, passed on 22 November 1967, called for the exchange of land for peace. Since then, many of the attempts to establish peace in the region have referred to 242. The resolution was written in accordance with Chapter VI of the UN Charter, under which resolutions are recommendations, not orders.

    Paris summit, 2017

Envoys from over 70 countries have gathered in Paris, France, to discuss the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. Netanyahu has slammed the discussions as “rigged” against his country. Neither Israeli nor Palestinian representatives are attending the summit. “A two-state solution is the only possible one,” French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, said at the opening of the event.

Presidential adviser Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, arrived in Cairo on Wednesday to wrap up a multicountry visit across the Middle East to shore up support for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Upon arriving in Egypt, the Foreign Ministry first announced that it had canceled a pre-scheduled meeting with Kushner in an apparent response to the military and economic aid cuts. However, the Egyptian president’s spokesman later said Kushner will meet with the country’s head of state instead.

The Foreign Ministry also later relented and agreed to a sit-down with Kushner to discuss ways to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.

US-Egyptian relations have witnessed a thaw under the Trump administration, with the US president hailing Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi as a key ally in the war against terrorism.

“I just want to let everybody know in case there was any doubt that we are very much behind President Sissi,” Trump said after meeting the Egyptian president in Washington in April. “He’s done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation. We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt.”

Relations between Cairo and Washington had soured in the wake of a military coup against Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, in 2013. Former US President Barack Obama responded to the ensuing crackdown by freezing military aid.

    Checklists Tools

DCAA auditors are required to have adequate contractor proposals/submissions prior to starting an audit. Contracting officers and Contractors can use the links below to access the same checklists that DCAA auditors use to assess adequacy. In addition, contractors can access DCAA s ICE model and EZ Quant applications.

    • Preaward Accounting System Adequacy Checklist : This checklist is used for contractors new to government contracting that have cost reimbursement contracts, or for contractors that are receiving progress payments based on cost. The checklist assesses whether the requirements for an adequate accounting system have been met.
    • Contract Pricing Proposal Adequacy Checklist: This checklist is used for assessing the adequacy of a contract price proposal in accordance with the FAR. The checklist assesses the adequacy of cost or pricing data.
    • Forward Pricing Rate Proposal Adequacy Checklist: Used primarily at large contractors, this checklist assesses the adequacy of direct and indirect forward pricing rates.
    • Incurred Cost Submission Adequacy Checklist: This checklist is used for assessing the adequacy of final direct and indirect incurred costs to ensure compliance with the contractual requirements under FAR.
    • Cost of Money Rates . Rates that Federal agencies are required to use under the Renegotiation Act of 1971 (P.L. 92-41).
    • ICE (Incurred Cost Electronically) Model : The ICE model (the electronic version of Model Incurred Cost Proposal ) assists Contractors in preparing adequate Incurred Cost Proposals.
    • EZ-Quant Applications: EZ-Quant is a suite of three statistical applications for performing statistical sampling, regression analysis, and improvement curve analysis.

    Have an audit question?

The audit process can be a complex process for contractors and buying commands. View a list of Frequently asked Questions to find answers to general contract audit questions. Or, contact your local DCAA office using the Office Locator.

    Types of Military Service

There are many ways to serve your country in the Military, many of them not involving combat. In fact, about 85 percent of today s enlisted military jobs are non-combat. Such positions support the fighting forces, aid in disaster relief, construct infrastructure, provide medical care and legal help and much more. Essentially, any job you can find in a major city, you can find in the U.S. Military.

There are five active branches of the Military.

    • Army As the oldest branch of the Military, the Army protects the security of the United States and its resources.
    • Marine Corps Working closely with the Navy, the Marine Corps is often first on the ground in combat situations.
    • Navy The Navy defends the right to travel and trade freely on the world s oceans and protects national interests overseas.
    • Air Force The Air Force protects American interests at home and abroad with a focus on air power.
    • Coast Guard The Coast Guard is a military, multi-mission, maritime service within the Department of Homeland Security. Its core roles are to protect the public, the environment and U.S. economic and security interests in any maritime region, including international waters and America s coasts, ports and inland waterways.

Each Service has a corresponding Reserve, and most states and territories have an Army National Guard and Air National Guard unit.

    Active Duty

Active Duty means that their jobs are full-time, whether deployed overseas or domestically. Active-duty servicemembers receive a regular paycheck and full benefits, including health care, housing allowance and 30 days of paid vacation per year.

Explore active-duty services on Today s Military:

    Reserve

Each branch also has a Reserve component. These servicemembers receive the same training as their active-duty peers but do so close to home until they are needed to deploy. Although some reservists serve full time, many typically train one weekend per month, plus two weeks of field exercises each year. Members usually hold a regular full-time job in addition to serving. Reserve servicemembers are paid for all time spent training or deployed and receive many of the same benefits as active-duty personnel.

Explore Reserve components on Today s Military:

    Army National Guard

Most U.S. states and territories have an Army National Guard unit. Members of the Army National Guard often have civilian jobs and can train close to home. Either the president or state governors can call on them when they are needed. They are sometimes deployed internationally alongside full-time servicemembers, but they most often work in disaster relief or other emergency situations within the United States.

Explore the Army National Guard on Today s Military:

    Air National Guard

Like Army National Guard units, Air National Guard units are found in most U.S. states and territories. Air National Guard members also have civilian jobs and train close to home, although they can be deployed abroad. They receive the same training as their active-duty counterparts, and their roles include defending the nation by air, delivering aid following a natural disaster or providing emergency health care.

    Bad Credit?

Bad credit home loans for military

The United States Government does all that it can to help its Veterans and active duty military. One program they offer is the VA Home Loan Program. Although, your credit is still considered, the VA loan allows us to approve you with much lower credit scores than conventional loans. Today, most VA lenders require scores above 620. Get your Credit Score from CreditReport.com – fast, free and easy!

Understanding the Eligibility for these loans:

The government guarantees these loans but the loan is actually made by a private lender. Basically, the government insure a portion of the loan so the private lender is more inclined to lend to someone with poor credit. Among some of the required eligibility criteria a few include :

    • Having a fair credit score and history, however even people with bad credit can sometimes be approved at higher interest rates.
    • Stable income and enough to meet the cost of the house. Cost of the house would include tax, monthly payments and insurance.

There is no down payment required and all the other terms of qualifying are the same as a Veteran with perfect credit. You may be surprised that you can qualify. The only way to be sure is to give us a call and ask.

VA Mortgage Bad Credit – Military Mortgages Bad Credit Ok #unemployment #loans

Filling out this form puts you under no obligations. By clicking “Get Started” I am consenting to have my information shared with one to four brokers or lenders and other business partners and for them to contact you (including through auto means; ie. autodialing, text & pre-recorded messaging) via telephone, mobile device (including SMS & MMS) and email, even if your telephone number is currently listed on any state, federal or corporate Do Not Call list.

Getting qualified for a VA mortgage is still possible for borrowers with damaged credit. Of course compensating factors are important to VA lenders who are considering your loan approval. To qualify for a bad credit VA mortgage you must be able to demonstrate your ability to repay the proposed loan to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Finding a lender that offers military home loans for bad credit can be tricky, even though the Federal government guarantees VA mortgages for qualified applicants.

VA Home Loans Bad Credit Ok for Qualified Military Borrowers Across the U.S.

The government continues to take more risks than the private sector when it comes to credit. The VA lenders have the ability to approve a VA mortgage with a bad credit history. There is no minimum fico score with bad credit VA mortgages but check with each lender because some companies impose their own minimum credit score. When it comes to the “Bad Credit VA Mortgage”, not all lenders are the same.

If you are unable to qualify to refinance your VA mortgage because of bad credit or late mortgage payments consider a loan modification. Because VA loan defaults are low VA lenders are more likely to approve you for a loan workout through the Home Affordable Modification programs (HAMP). According to the recent reports, VA loan servicers are now encouraged to modify VA home loans with the same guidelines. The VA loan modification is similar to a refinance in that it lowers the interest rate on your VA mortgage. However, since home prices have been rising it has become much more difficult to achieve a modification. People who have late payments should shop lenders that provide alternatives like the bad credit military mortgage loan.

MBA released a report recently regarding the National Delinquency Survey that indicated the delinquency rate for bad credit VA mortgages in the first quarter last year was 5.09 %. The prime loan delinquency rate was 7.08 % so that gives you an idea how well the VA mortgages are performing sided by side with traditional good credit loans.

U.S. military probing more possible civilian deaths in Yemen raid

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. (Reuters) – The U.S. military said on Wednesday it was looking into whether more civilians were killed in a raid on al Qaeda in Yemen on the weekend, in the first operation authorized by President Donald Trump as commander in chief.

U.S. Navy SEAL William Ryan Owens was killed in the raid on a branch of al Qaeda, also known as AQAP, in al Bayda province, which the Pentagon said also killed 14 militants. However, medics at the scene said about 30 people, including 10 women and children, were killed.

U.S. Central Command said in a statement that an investigating team had “concluded regrettably that civilian non-combatants were likely killed” during Sunday’s raid. It said children may have been among the casualties.

Central Command said its assessment “seeks to determine if there were any still-undetected civilian casualties in the ferocious firefight.”

Deadly U.S. raid may bolster Yemen s al Qaeda – Crisis Group

U.S. military officials told Reuters that Trump approved his first covert counterterrorism operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support or adequate backup preparations.

As a result, three officials said, the attacking SEAL team found itself dropping onto a reinforced al Qaeda base defended by landmines, snipers, and a larger than expected contingent of heavily armed Islamist extremists.

The Pentagon directed queries about the officials’ characterization of the raid to U.S. Central Command, which pointed only to its statement on Wednesday.

“CENTCOM asks for operations we believe have a good chance for success and when we ask for authorization we certainly believe there is a chance of successful operations based on our planning,” CENTCOM spokesman Colonel John Thomas said.

“Any operation where you are going to put operators on the ground has inherent risks,” he said.

The U.S. officials said the extremists base had been identified as a target before the Obama administration left office on Jan. 20, but then-President Barack Obama held off approving a raid ahead of his departure.

A White House official said the operation was thoroughly vetted by the previous administration and that the previous defense secretary had signed off on it in January. The raid was delayed for operational reasons, the White House official said.

The military officials who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said “a brutal firefight” killed Owens and at least 15 Yemeni women and children. One of the dead was the 8-year-old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki, a militant killed by a 2011 U.S. drone strike.

Some of the women were firing at the U.S. force, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis told reporters.

    Intelligence Gathered

The American elite forces did not seize any militants or take any prisoners offsite, but White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Wednesday the raid yielded benefits.

“Knowing that we killed an estimated 14 AQAP members and that we gathered an unbelievable amount of intelligence that will prevent the potential deaths or attacks on American soil is something that I think most service members understand, that that s why they joined the service, Spicer said.

A senior leader in Yemen’s al Qaeda branch, Abdulraoof al-Dhahab, and other militants were killed in the gunbattle, al Qaeda said.

One of the three U.S. officials said on-the-ground surveillance of the compound was minimal, at best.

The decision was made. to leave it to the incoming administration, partly in the hope that more and better intelligence could be collected, that official said.

As Sunday’s firefight intensified, the raiders called in Marine helicopter gunships and Harrier jump jets, and then two MV-22 Osprey vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to extract the SEALs.

One of the two suffered engine failure, two of the officials said, and hit the ground so hard that two crew members were injured, and one of the Marine jets had to launch a precision-guided bomb to destroy it.

Trump traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday in an unexpected visit to meet the family of Owens, who had been a chief special warfare operator.

What is a VA Home Loan?

The VA home loan programs have become very popular within the military networks. The VA home loan is a government-insured home loan program specifically for active duty military, surviving spouses, reservists and veterans who meet the minimum VA requirements that include the certificate of eligibility and income documentation. A portion of each loan is guaranteed by the VA to protect the lender’s investment if the borrower defaults. This portion is called an entitlement. Because of the decreased risk to lenders, eligible borrowers may receive home mortgage loans with up to 100% financing. However borrowers will need money towards closing costs and the earnest money deposit, which the seller generally requires when a sales contract is signed.

The VA Loan Guaranty Service is the organization within the Veterans Benefits Administration (VA) charged with the responsibility of administering the home loan program. Their mission is to help veterans and active duty personnel purchase and retain homes in recognition of their service to the Nation.

Military College Loan Repayment Program (CLRP)

The College Loan Repayment Program is an enlistment incentive. Like other enlistment incentives authorized by Congress, each of the services are free to offer the program, or not, as they see fit, in order to meet their established recruiting goals. Under the program, the military will repay a portion of eligible college loans for non-prior service military members. This program is for non-prior service enlisted personnel, only.

    Officers are not eligible.

Note: For a couple of years, the Army offered CLRP benefits to non-prior service OCS officer candidates as a test program. The Army has since decided not to continue the program. Between 2008, and 2011, the Marine Corps is conducting their own test program and offers college loan repayment of up to $30,000 for some officer candidates in exchange for extending their service commitment by six months.

However, the Air National Guard offers CLRP of up to $20,000, for designated shortage AFSCs (jobs).

    Qualifying Loans

The loan must be entered into before joining the military. The following loans qualify for the College Loan Repayment Program:

    • Auxiliary Loan Assistance for Students (ALAS)
    • Stafford Student Loan, formerly know as the Guaranteed Student Loan (GSL)
    • Parents Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). Must be incurred for the use of the individual contracting for the program (not others such as relatives)
    • Consolidated Loan Program. Only covers the member s education expenses
    • Federally Insured Student Loans (FISL)
    • Perkins Loan, formerly known as the National Direct Student Loan (NDSL)
    • Supplemental Loans for Students (SLS)

    Eligibility

    • For active duty, must have no prior military experience
    • In the Air Force and Navy active duty, must enlist for a minimum of four years. For the Army active duty, must enlist for a minimum of three years.
    • For the Army and Navy Reserves, and Army and Air National Guard, must enlist for a minimum of six years
    • For the Army, must have a high school diploma, and must have an overall score of 50 or higher on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).
    • For the Army active duty, Army Reserves, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard, must enlist in a specific shortage MOS/AFSC (job) that qualifies for the program (Note: MOS s/AFSC s that qualify can change overnight, depending on the current needs of the service. See your local Recruiter for the latest information about jobs that qualify).
    • For the Army Reserves/Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, the maximum amount repayable (up to $20,000) varies according to the MOS/AFSC (job) and unit assigned to.
    • Active Duty must give up Montgomery GI Bill Eligibility (but, see info on the next page about this)
    • For the Army and Navy Reserves, those with prior military service are eligible.
    • The CLRP must be annotated on the enlistment contract.

    Payments

Payments are made directly to the lender. The first payment is not made until after the member has completed one year of service, assuming that all initial entry training (basic training and job-training) has been completed.

Active Duty. The military repays 33 1/3 percent of the outstanding principle balance of the loan annually, or $1,500, whichever is greater, for each year of service.

Reserves. The Army and Navy Reserves will repay 15 percent of the outstanding principle balance of the loan annually, or $1,500, whichever is greater, for each year of service.  The Air National Guard will pay 15 percent, or $5,000 (whichever is greater) annually against the outstanding principle balance.

    Military Loans

    Military loans are available

Some military personnel may find themselves in need of gap financing at times and find themselves barred from alternative financial products such as payday loans and other loan products due to their being active or retired. Personal Money Network may be able to help.

    For borrowers in uniform

Personal Money Network can certainly help members of the uniformed services obtain military loans. We aren t a lender, but rather a matching service that helps to find a lender for you. Among the lenders in our network are a number of lenders that are able to extend financing to service members.

Just like their civilian counterparts, loans up to $1,000 are available as are a variety of repayment options such as installment plans if an installment loan is the best option for you. Approval decisions are rendered quickly, and through direct deposit, funds can be available within one business day.

    What you should know

Though Personal Money Network does strive to provide the best loan to applicants from the network of lenders we partner with, only a select number of lenders are able to provide loans to military personnel. The reason is that federal and state regulations for lending to active service members are different than those for civilians.

As a result, there may be fewer lenders able to extend financing. While being active duty military certainly doesn t disqualify you from obtaining the loan you need, it may make it harder to find a loan to best suit your needs.

    What is the process like?

The process for getting members of the military loans like cash advances, short term loans or installment loans is just like anyone else applying for a loan through Personal Money Network.

You fill out a short application. which takes just a few minutes to fill out. Then you submit the application for consideration. An approval decision typically only takes three minutes or so. If you receive an approval from a lender, you will be redirected to the website of the approving lender. There you can review the terms and decide whether to take the loan or not.

Since the process is online, you don t have to leave home to get approved. Since many of our lenders also work via direct deposit, the funds can be sent straight to your bank account.
