Northwestern California University School of Law ( NWCULaw ® ) was founded 35 years ago.     The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and other leading nursing organizations have released statements to the effect that the BSN degree should be considered the minimum education needed prior to entering practice as a professional nurse. As a result, many RN’s with an associates degree or a diploma in nursing are going back to school to enhance both their education and nursing career opportunities. In fact, according to the AACN RN to BSN program enrollment increased 20% from 2009 to 2010. This is actually the eighth consecutive year seeing an increase in enrollment in these programs.     What is Online learning?

    Online learning, in the context of higher education, is simply any type of learning that takes place outside the traditional model of on-campus classes. Traditionally, students come to campus for instruction; but through Online learning, the college comes to students through the internet.

    What are the benefits of Online learning?

    Most of the literature you’ll read on Online learning programs seem to stress the benefits for persons who otherwise have busy lifestyles, full- time jobs, and family commitments. These are legitimate factors, since most Online learning classes allow you to schedule your studies with a greater degree of flexibility than you can in traditional classes.

    Please take note: Online courses are not any easier than traditional courses, nor will your studies be any less comprehensive. If you’re looking for an easy way out, this isn’t it. In fact, because you don’t have the face to face interaction with professors: Online learning usually requires more motivation and energy than in person courses.

    Who might take an Online learning course?

    Students who enjoy independent learning, who are disciplined and organized and don’t require face-to- face interaction with a faculty member or other students.

    How Does It Work?

    Westchester Community College utilizes the Blackboard Learning Management System. Students can access the Blackboard system from any computer that is connected to the internet.

    Online courses run on a semester basis, as do most traditional classes. Each has a specific start and end date. Most classes last about 15 weeks and each week brings new lectures and assignments. Assignments might include readings, quizzes, participation in discussion boards, projects or papers. Some courses will have midterms and finals.

    In many ways taking one of WCC’s online classes is no different than taking a traditional class. Online classes have the same tuition and academic credit as do their counterparts. You still have an instructor, textbooks, classmates, homework assignments and exams. The main difference is that you will not be tied to the structure of a class that meets at a particular place on a regular basis. You ll have the flexibility to complete your workload where and when it is convenient for you.

    Email is an important aspect of online learning. After registering for classes for the first time, you will be assigned a WCC email account. To access your email account, go to mywcc.sunywcc.edu.

    I forgot my password, how do I retrieve it?

    I do not see my class in Blackboard, what do I do?

    Students are automatically enrolled in Blackboard from the Registrar’s computer application system and this process can take up to 24 hours to update. In addition, Blackboard courses are made available one week prior to the first day of class. If you log into Blackboard and do not see your courses listed, DO NOT PANIC. You may have logged in too early.

    On-campus attendance is required but this occurs on only two occasions for two week block courses.     Als Kreditvermittler hat sich Maxda darauf spezialisiert, Kunden den für sie passenden Kredit zu vermitteln. Dabei sind Beträge von 1.500 bis 250.000 Euro möglich. Um einen optimalen Service bieten zu können, sind Kreditanfragen grundsätzlich kostenlos und können in kürzester Zeit auf der Internetseite des Unternehmens vorgenommen werden. Der Barkredit von Maxda Beim Barkredit handelt es sich um einen klassischen Ratenkredit, der mit einem festen Zinssatz über die gesamte Laufzeit hinweg und damit auch festen monatlichen Raten ausgestattet ist. Bis zu 250.000 Euro können auf diesem Wege beantragt werden. Barkredite sind nicht zweckgebunden und können vom Kunden ganz nach Belieben verwendet werden. Darüber hinaus bietet Maxda einen 24//7-Service, durch den der Antragsteller an keinerlei Öffnungszeiten gebunden ist und seinen Kredit rund um die Uhr an sieben Tagen der Woche beantragen kann. Neben Ratenkrediten kann Maxda übrigens auch günstige Hypothekendarlehen und Beamtenkredite vermitteln.

    Ein Kredit schufafrei von Maxda bietet gleich zwei Vorteile: Zum einen beeinträchtigen bereits bestehende Schufaeinträge die Beantragung des Kredites nicht und zum anderen wird auch kein neuer Eintrag erzeugt. 7.500 Euro können ohne Schufaauskunft beantragt werden. Das Ganze bei festen Konditionen hinsichtlich Laufzeit, Zinssatz und Raten. Zu den Voraussetzungen gehört lediglich der Nachweis über ein regelmäßiges Einkommen. Maxda legt dabei Wert auf Transparenz. Schufafreie Kredite eignen sich beispielsweise zum Ausgleich von Dispokrediten oder zur Finanzierung kleinerer Investitionen, wenn in nächster Zeit ein normaler Bankkredit aufgenommen und nicht durch einen Schufaeintrag gefährdet werden soll.

    Kredit ohne Schufa von Maxda

    Der Kreditvermittler Maxda vermittelt unter anderem auch Kredite ohne Schufa. Für den Kreditnehmer hat ein solcher Kredit mehrere Vorteile.

    Ganz unabhängig davon, ob und wenn, welche positiven oder negativen Einträge über sein Ausgabeverhalten in der Schufa-Datenbank, der Schutzgemeinschaft für allgemeine Kreditsicherung vermerkt sind, wird im Rahmen der Bonitätsprüfung die Schufa nicht eingesehen. Denn schon das umgangssprachliche Ziehen der Schufa wird dort mit einem eigenen Vermerk eingetragen. Der Kreditgeber verzichtet also ganz bewusst darauf, und der anschließend bewilligte Kredit wird auch nicht in die Schufa eingetragen. Das Darlehen ohne Schufa von Maxda bleibt ein vertrauliches Geschäft zwischen den beiden Vertragspartnern Kreditgeber und Kreditnehmer.

    Der Kredit kann bei Maxda mit wenigen Eintragungen und einem abschließenden Mausklick online beantragt werden. Der Antragseingang wird postwendend bestätigt, zusammen mit einem vorbereiteten Kreditvertrag, der gemeinsam mit den Infos über die notwendigen Einkommensunterlagen zurückgeschickt wird. Aus dem großen Pool der Anbieter im In- und Ausland, mit denen Maxda seit Jahren vertrauensvoll und erfolgreich zusammenarbeitet, wird derjenige ausgewählt, zu dem der Kreditantrag ohne Schufa passt, und der seinerseits anhand der Bonität des Antragstellers den Kredit ohne Schufa bereitstellen möchte. Wenn alles so weit stimmt, ist der Rest eine reine Formalität. Der Kreditwunsch kann so schnellstmöglich realisiert werden. Dies erfolgt entweder durch Überweisung auf sein Girokonto, oder durch Barauszahlung per Deutsche Post AG. Die von Maxda vermittelten Kredite ohne Schufa werden von deutschen oder auch ausländischen Direkt- oder Onlinebanken vergeben, und zwar immer in der EURO-Währung.

    Was ist ein negativer Schufa-Eintrag?

    Die wohl bekannteste deutsche Wirtschaftsauskunftsdatei – die Schufa – speichert in ihrem Firmenhauptsitz in Wiesbaden seit 1927 rund 500 Millionen Einzeldaten, die von rund 66 Millionen natürlichen Personen stammen.

    Dies sind fast ausnahmslos alle deutschen Filial- und Hausbanken. Sie lassen die Geschäftsverbindungen mit den Kunden als ihren Vertragspartnern in die Datenbank der Schufa, der Schutzgemeinschaft für allgemeine Kreditsicherung, eintragen. Als Negativeinträge gelten alle Abweichungen von den abgeschlossenen Verträgen. Das sind in den meisten Fällen unpünktliche oder unvollständige Kreditrückzahlungen. Sie stellen für den Kreditgeber ein Kreditausfallrisiko dar, was zu einem Zinsverlust bis hin zu einem Minusgeschäft führen kann.

    Doch heutzutage gibt es eine Vielzahl an Kreditinstituten, die entweder keine Geschäftspartner der Schufa sind, oder die ganz bewusst auf die einseitige Aussagefähigkeit der Schufa-Bonität verzichten. Denn die Schufa gibt Auskunft über das Ausgabeverhalten des Bürgers, sagt aber nichts über seine Einkommenssituation aus. Darlehen trotz Schufa von Maxda werden oftmals von deutschen oder auch ausländischen Onlinebanken vergeben. Das meist mehr theoretisch höhere Kreditausfallrisiko wird bei den Darlehen trotz Schufa durch einen etwas höheren Effektivzins ausgeglichen. Den nehmen die Kreditnehmer gerne in Kauf, da sie im Gegenzug das gewünschte oder dringend benötigte Darlehen erhalten. Für den Darlehensnehmer hat das Darlehen trotz Schufa von Maxda noch den weiteren Vorteil, dass es nicht in die Schufa eingetragen wird, da der Darlehensgeber kein Schufa-Partner ist oder bewusst davon Abstand nimmt. Die Schufa-Bonität des Darlehensnehmers wird überhaupt nicht tangiert, keiner außer den beiden Vertragspartnern erfährt somit etwas von dem Darlehen trotz Schufa.

    Wenn über das Zahlungsverhalten des Kreditantragstellers ein Negativeintrag in der Schufa vermerkt ist, wird es für ihn schwer, einen Kredit bei dem Kreditinstitut zu erhalten, das als Geschäftspartner mit der Schufa kooperiert.

    Neben den personenbezogenen Daten wie Name und Anschrift sind dies auch Daten zu Kontoeröffnungen, Telefon – und Kreditverträgen. All diese Angaben und Daten „schaden“ dem Betroffenen nicht, da diese rein informativ sind und lediglich als Grundgerüst für die Schufa Akte gelten. Allerdings gibt es auch Einträge, die weniger erfreulich sind und die die Kreditwürdigkeit des Betroffenen stark einschränken. Die Rede ist von den „negativen“ Schufa-Einträgen, die rund ein Viertel aller geschäftsfähigen Personen begleiten.

    Ein negativer Schufa-Eintrag wird dann von einem Vertragspartner bei der Schufa angezeigt und vorgenommen, wenn man als Kunde seine Rechnungen nicht bezahlt oder mit der Ratenzahlung so stark im Verzug ist, dass sogar ein Vollstreckungsbescheid beantragt werden muss. In der Schufa findet sich dann ein entsprechender Vermerk, der die Höhe der Schulden und den Gläubiger nennt. Weitere negative Schufa-Einträge entstehen, wenn man den Offenbarungseid abgibt oder sich in einer Verbraucherinsolvenz befindet. Gelöscht werden diese Einträge erst wieder, wenn sie erledigt sind. Manchmal kommt es vor, dass die Gläubiger vergessen, die Erledigung an die Schufa zu melden. Als Betroffener sollte man deshalb nach Abschluss eine Selbstauskunft einholen und die Löschung überprüfen. Wurde sie nicht vorgenommen, kann man sich an die Schufa wenden. Mit den entsprechenden Unterlagen bezüglich der Erledigung kann man dann in Eigenregie die Löschung beantragen.

    Un préstamo personal es un contrato por el que la entidad financiera adelanta una cantidad de dinero (principal) a otra persona llamada prestatario, con la obligación de que devuelva el principal y abone además unos intereses pactados y los gastos derivados de la operación.

    Las entidades de crédito ofertan infinidad de préstamos personales, también llamados préstamos de consumo, con distintos nombres comerciales (préstamos coche, créditos vacaciones, préstamos bodas…), pero con unas pequeñas variaciones todos son prácticamente lo mismo.

    Características

    Para comparar la gran oferta de préstamos de consumo en el mercado hay que considerar:

    • Tipo de interés.
    • Comisiones de apertura y cancelación (total o parcial).
    • Otros gastos.
    • Plazo de amortización (el tiempo para devolver el dinero prestado).
    • Importe de la cuota mensual (vendrá determinado por la TAE y el plazo).

    Tipo de interés

    El tipo de interés es el precio que la entidad financiera le cobrará por prestarle el dinero que solicita. Antes de decidirse, compare distintas ofertas, pero no se fije sólo en el tipo de interés nominal, sino en la TAE, (más certera si examina préstamos con un mismo plazo de amortización). La TAE es un cálculo, un tanto complejo, que incluye el tipo de interés nominal y las comisiones que puedan aplicarle a su préstamo, teniendo en cuenta el plazo de la operación. Es un indicador mucho más fiable del coste real del préstamo.

    Algunos préstamos pueden tener un tipo de interés nominal bajo, pero muchas comisiones por otros conceptos (apertura, cancelación, amortización parcial, estudio…). Si sumamos todos los conceptos, podemos descubrir que un préstamo al 3% de interés nominal nos sale más caro que otro al 5%, pero con menos comisiones, por ejemplo.

    Garantía

    El que contrata un préstamo personal ofrece como garantía todos sus bienes, presentes y futuros.

    Los préstamos personales se diferencian de los préstamos hipotecarios por la garantía que tiene la entidad de crédito en caso de producirse un impago. Es decir, resultan más caros y disponemos de menos tiempo para devolverlos. El importe prestado también es mucho menor de lo que se puede recibir en un préstamo hipotecario.

    De todas formas, los clientes con saldos elevados en cuentas de la misma entidad y casas y otros bienes en propiedad, tendrán más posibilidad de conseguir préstamos con condiciones más favorables que aquellos sin mucho patrimonio neto.

    Requisitos

    Antes de concederle un préstamo, la entidad de crédito realizará un estudio de viabilidad para valorar su capacidad de pago. Este estudio es parecido a la elaboración de su presupuesto personal. Contempla sobre todo sus ingresos mensuales y sus compromisos de pago como otras deudas pendientes, incluyendo saldos de las tarjetas de crédito, para estimar si va a poder pagar las cuotas mensuales del préstamo sin dificultades. El banco también valorará su patrimonio (inmuebles, inversiones, otras cuentas bancarias, etc.), que sirve de garantía.

    Si el banco tiene dudas sobre su capacidad de pago o su historial crediticio y no considera que su patrimonio sea garantía suficiente, probablemente le será necesario tener un avalista (otra persona que se compromete a hacerse cargo de la deuda si usted no paga) para poder conseguir un préstamo personal.

    Documentación necesaria para solicitar un préstamo personal:

    • DNI
    • Presupuesto o factura pro forma del producto o servicio que desea adquirir con el préstamo
    • Comprobante de ingresos (últimas nóminas para trabajadores externos y declaración del IVA y pago de autónomos de la Seguridad Social para autónomos, última declaración de la Renta)
    • Copia del contrato de trabajo.
    • Relación de su patrimonio en el momento de solicitar el préstamo (inmuebles en propiedad, coches, inversiones, cuentas bancarias, etc. – recuerde: la garantía del préstamo es la totalidad de sus bienes actuales y futuros)
    • Escritura de la vivienda o contrato de alquiler.
    • Recibos de pago (luz, gas, teléfono, alquiler, etc.).
    • Últimos recibos de otros préstamos, si los tuviera

    Finalidad, importe y plazo

    La duración de un préstamo personal no debe ser más larga que la vida de la cosa que está financiando.

    Las entidades financieras también miran que haya coherencia entre la finalidad, el importe y el plazo del préstamo solicitado. Es decir, no le concederán 5.000 € para la compra de una lavadora. Un préstamo personal debe ir destinado a financiar un producto o servicio de consumo en concreto y las entidades quieren evitar que se use para remediar problemas generales de liquidez de los clientes. Por eso suele ser necesario presentar una factura pro forma o presupuesto. Incluso, las entidades exigen mediar el pago para asegurarse de que el dinero se destine efectivamente al fin indicado por el cliente.

    En cuanto al plazo, una regla de oro es que la duración del préstamo no debe ser más larga que la vida de la cosa que está pagando. Usted no querrá seguir pagando cuotas por algo de lo que ya disfrutó hace tiempo y por objetos que ya dejó de utilizar o que se han caído de viejos. Por ello, no es aconsejable pedir préstamos largos para financiar vacaciones, fiestas, o bodas.Y tampoco un préstamo coche, por ejemplo, debería tener un plazo de amortización más largo que la vida útil del vehículo.

    En caso de concederle el préstamo, la entidad de crédito le tiene que entregar una oferta vinculante en la que se detallan todas las condiciones del mismo por escrito. Esta oferta tiene 10 días de vigencia, para que la estudie detenidamente y la compare con otras ofertas.

    El importe del préstamo, el plazo y el tipo de interés determinan la cuota mensual a pagar. Cuanto mayor es el plazo, menor será la cuota mensual, pero el coste total será más alto porque estará pagando intereses durante más tiempo.

    Siempre que sea posible, evite los préstamos que cobran altas comisiones por cancelación anticipada.

    Fiscalidad

    Los préstamos personales no dan derecho a ninguna deducción fiscal.

    Formalización

    Un préstamo personal tiene que ir asociada una libreta o cuenta corriente operativa a nombre de los prestatarios. Es decir, tendrá que tener abierta una cuenta a la vista en la que se abonará el importe del préstamo y se cobrará el pago de las cuotas mensuales.

    Finalmente, el préstamo se formaliza mediante la firma de una póliza. Es un acto formal, con repercusiones judiciales, en el que la entidad y el prestatario se comprometen a cumplir todas las condiciones de la operación. Suele ser necesaria la intervención de un fedatario público, gasto que corre a cuenta del cliente.

    En algunas ocasiones puede ser indicado contratar un seguro de protección de pagos, que asegura la amortización, total o parcial, del préstamo en caso de que ocurra algo al titular asegurado (fallecimiento, incapacidad, paro prolongado…).

    Free Medical Billing Training. Find out what Free will get you. You’ve heard the old saying – If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. But there are some resources for learning about the medical billing process for free or reasonable cost.

    A free introduction to the important concepts of medical billing and coding. Over an hour of video instruction. Covers many of the important subjects from the more comprehensive Medical Billing Fundamentals course ( Includes over $78 in FREE Material ).

    There are some free “Mini Courses” online that are simply a very generalized document about medical billing and coding. It’s usually a document a few pages long or a short video presentation that gives a sample of their material. The hope is that you’ll be impressed enough to commit to purchasing the entire training program.

    Be careful – I fell for this and spent several hundred dollars. It was an impressive looking website and slick marketing. Once I purchased all I received was a notebook of general information I could have easily found on the internet. Boy did I feel like a fool! And forget trying to get a refund.

    Look out for Scams – Hold On to Your Credit Card

    Also be wary of free medical billing training trial programs that require you to enter credit card information before viewing their “free” material. Supposedly if you decide not to take the complete course you have to call to cancel. I’m suspicious of anybody that wants a credit card up front. Once they get your credit card number it can be very difficult to get a refund or prevent them from charging you.

    I’ve done this with other “free” offers before and found it almost impossible to cancel and get them to stop charging my credit card.

    There are ways you can get free medical billing training. However the quality of the training may be lacking.

    Get Real World Experience

    Offer to work part time for a medical billing service for free – for a limited time of course. When I was anxious to learn medical billing, I offered to work for free. My thinking was that is a great way to get hands-on real world training.

    I had a friend who started a medical billing business and was very busy. I talked to her about how she got started and asked for her advice. During our conversations I offered to work for free for a short time until I learned enough to start my own business.

    Medical billing is the sort of work that can be done at home easily. Fortunately they didn’t take me up on the free part but did pay me for part time work from home. To me that was like getting paid to learn!

    I started out working on insurance aging which involved calling insurance companies to follow up on unpaid claims and determine why they were rejected. I got progressively more experience and responsibilities until I felt comfortable marketing my own business.

    If you are starting a medical billing business, this type of work is an excellent way gain experience and cultivate contacts with other people in the field – such as doctors, office managers, and other billers and coder.

    There is a website called Quizlet which the worlds largest online student and teacher community. Their mission is to help students master the subjects they are learning. Quizlet has an almost overwhelming amount of medical billing and coding lessons, study guides, and tests from a wide variety of credible students and teachers.

    Best of all it’s FREE!

    Even better than free medical billing training is the thought of getting paid to learn. As mentioned above, any environment you can get into – even for pay that is less than the going rate – that allows you some experience in the field is a great help toward getting trained. This would be short term of course.

    Consider opportunities at a medical billing services company, hospital or doctors office, or insurance company. Anything that gets you exposed to the field looks good on your resume. Remember your goal is getting experience – so a short term sacrifice in pay may be worth it to prove yourself and get good references.

    One of the requirements I notice in medical billing job postings is experience in the field – probably more than training or credentials for medical billing. That’s why getting any experience you can is important. In this field there are many things that can’t be taught in a classroom environment.

    If we can find where they have been moved to we will post a new link. They had an extensive (113) catalog of video’s on just about anything a medical billing specialist does.

    Research the Internet for Free Medical Billing Training

    There’s so much information from credible sources available on the internet on medical billing. You can educate yourself and find information on just about any topic. The challenge is being able to separate the credible and knowledgeable from the pretenders.

    Even on this site I try to document my experiences, information, and other free medical billing training resources that may be helpful to others getting started in the medical billing and coding profession.

    I found it can be difficult to find any in-depth information on particular topics. This takes a lot of time. There is a lot of online information on medical billing that seems to be almost entirely dedicated to marketing and not educating. These sites are just trying to sell something. Or on the opposite end of the spectrum having so much information that it’s overwhelming.

    An example of this would be the HIPAA. There’s a tremendous amount of information about HIPAA available at CMS – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services . But trying to determine what is relevant and applicable to a small practice is almost overwhelming as there are so many facets of HIPAA.

    A lot of billing services are smart to educate themselves well on HIPAA (and other industry issues) and use this to educate, and market to, small practices. This is a great way to open doors and establish yourself as an expert.

    American Association of Professional Coders ( AAPC ) is also has some great info on medical billing – although their main concentration is coding.

Myriad training and development content will be emphasized such as planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs. Attention will also be devoted to broader issues such as employee development and training for specific needs.

    HRA 545 Administrative and Personnel Law 3

    This course is intended to provide an overview of the basic laws governing the employment relationship. The goals of the course are twofold: first, to familiarize students with the many issues and problems confronting employees, employers, supervisors, and human resources professionals; second, to help students in identifying the legal implications of personnel situations that may arise in the business and corporate environment.

    HRA 549 Recruitment, Selection, and Placement 3

    Focuses on processes and conceptual issues related to staffing organizations.     Elective

    MBA 625 Internship 3

    This is an elective credit course (added on top of the basic MBA courses). MBA students, along with their designated faculty members, arrange for full- or part-time jobs in fields related to their MBA curriculum. Under the guidance of a designated faculty member, students work to enrich their University experience through a paid internship in order to practice Master’s level business skills. Specific competency requirements (and the associated activities) are outlined by the designated faculty member and agreed upon with the internship site representative. The internship must last the entire term for which the student is registered (specific work hours to be agreed upon with the employer and faculty member). At least two site contacts will be completed by the faculty member to ensure that the outlined competency requirements are completed.

    Original Preface. The Catholic Encyclopedia, as its name implies, proposes to give its readers full and authoritative information on the entire cycle of Catholic interests, action and doctrine. What the Church teaches and has taught; what she has done and is still doing for the highest welfare of mankind ; her methods, past and present; her struggles, her triumphs, and the achievements of her members, not only for her own immediate benefit, but for the broadening and deepening of all true science. literature and art all come within the scope of the Catholic Encyclopedia. It differs from the general encyclopedia in omitting facts and information which have no relation to the Church. On the other hand, it is not exclusively a church encyclopedia, nor is it limited to the ecclesiastical sciences and the doings of churchmen. It records all that Catholics have done, not only in behalf of charity and morals. but also for the intellectual and artistic development of mankind. It chronicles what Catholic artists, educators, poets, scientists and men of action have achieved in their several provinces. In this respect it differs from most other Catholic encyclopedias. The Editors are fully aware that there is no specifically Catholic science, that mathematics, physiology and other branches of human knowledge are neither Catholic. Jewish. nor Protestant ; but when it is commonly asserted that Catholic principles are an obstacle to scientific research, it seems not only proper but needful to register what and how much Catholics have contributed to every department of knowledge.

    No one who is interested in human history, past and present, can ignore the Catholic Church. either as an institution which has been the central figure in the civilized world for nearly two thousand years, decisively affecting its destinies, religious, literary, scientific, social and political, or as an existing power whose influence and activity extend to every part of the globe. In the past century the Church has grown both extensively and intensively among English-speaking peoples. Their living interests demand that they should have the means of informing themselves about this vast institution, which, whether they are Catholics or not, affects their fortunes and their destiny. As for Catholics. their duty as members of the Church impels them to learn more and more fully its principles; while among Protestants the desire for a more intimate and accurate knowledge of things Catholic increases in proportion to the growth of the Church in numbers and in importance. The Catholic clergy are naturally expected to direct inquirers to sources of the needed information; yet they find only too often that the proper answers to the questions proposed are not to be met with in English literature. Even the writings of the best intentioned authors are at times disfigured by serious errors on Catholic subjects, which are for the most part due, not to ill-will, but to lack of knowledge. It would be fatuous to hope to call into immediate existence a Catholic English literature adequate to supply this knowledge and correct errors. The Encyclopedia, therefore, is the most convenient means of doing both, enabling, as it does, the foremost Catholic scholars in every part of the world to contribute articles in the condensed form that appeals to the man of action, and with the accuracy that satisfies the scholar.

    Designed to present its readers with the full body of Catholic teaching. the Encyclopedia contains not only precise statements of what the Church has defined. but also an impartial record of different views of acknowledged authority on all disputed questions. In all things the object of the Encyclopedia is to give the whole truth without prejudice, national, political or factional. In the determination of the truth the most recent and acknowledged scientific methods are employed, and the results of the latest research in theology. philosophy. history. apologetics. arch ology. and other sciences are given careful consideration.

    The work is entirely new, and not merely a translation or a compilation from other encyclopedia sources. The Editors have insisted that the articles should contain the latest and most accurate information to be obtained from the standard works on each subject. Contributors have been chosen for their special knowledge and skill in presenting the subject, and they assume the responsibility for what they have written. Representing as they do Catholic scholarship in every part of the world, they give the work an international character.

    The Encyclopedia bears the imprimatur of the Most Reverend Archbishop under whose jurisdiction it is published. In constituting the Editors the ecclesiastical censors, he has given them a singular proof of his confidence and of his desire to facilitate the publication of the work which he has promoted most effectively by his influence and kindly co-operation.

    Online backup services are not created equal when it comes to data security . The strongest security is “zero knowledge” encryption. It encrypts your data using a unique encryption key that only you possess; nobody, including you, can access your account without this key.

    If you lose your encryption key, all the vendor can do is open a new account for you. This might sound scary, but giving your vendor access to your data requires a level of trust that may not be warranted and also leaves you open to government searches. What’s the best way to protect your unique encryption key? Write it down and lock it in a safe place.

    Good features to consider: cross-platform client software, support for multiple filesystems, and sharing and file sync across multiple devices and users. Most backup services use deduplication—meaning they copy identical files only once—to reduce the size of backups. Another way to reduce backup size: record only changes to a file rather than making multiple complete copies.

    Backups should be reliable and automatic, and restoring data should be easy. Many services offer 2GB-5GB accounts for free. You’ll find personal, family and business plans with different features and pricing. Ignore the labels; if a personal or family plan meets your small business needs then use it.

    Memopal Small Business Online Data Backup Service

    Based in Italy, Memopal supports customers in Europe, the U.S. and Asia—in 15 languages. It supports more platforms than most online backup services: Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, Android, iPhone, Blackberry, a Web interface, and a Web-based, mobile-friendly interface.

    A simple Memopal Personal license covers as many computers as you like, up to your total storage limit. An annual fee of €79.00—about $86 USD—buys 500GB of storage.

    Memopal White Label offers a customized, branded interface and a choice of on-premises or hosted storage. Memopal guarantees your confidentiality and the anonymity of the data stored on its servers, though it does not implement true zero knowledge encryption. If you lose your login you can request a reset and get back into your account.

    SpiderOak is the online backup service with the funny name. SpiderOak gets my top recommendation for small business owners who want maximum security and privacy. You get reliable, secure online data backups and real zero-knowledge protection.

    Every account gets a unique encryption key that protects customer data for the entire end-to-end process—uploading, storage, and downloading—and nobody can access your data without this key. If you lose it, you lose access to your account, and Spideroak cannot restore it or create a new one.

    SpiderOak offers group collaboration and enterprise backup, and Kloak, their new service for safely encryption and protecting your social media activities.

    SpiderOak is cross-platform and supports efficient online backups, file synchronization across multiple devices, file sharing and remote access from anywhere. You can use client software for PCs and mobile devices, or you can use the Web interface. The company offers a forever-free 2GB account, and then each additional 30GB costs you $7 per month or $79 per year. One terabyte of storage sells for $12 per month/$129 per year, and 5TB costs $25/$279.

    Crashplan+ Small Business Online Data Backup Service

    Crashplan+ . a moderately-priced online data backup service, offers both home and business plans. The reasonably priced business plans let you either pay $7.49 per-computer for unlimited storage, or pay for a specific amount of storage. The company’s online calculator quickly shows which option is the best deal. The company claims it’s fully committed to the unlimited plans and will not take them away. The Crashplan+ feature set includes backups to local servers or removable media, a 30-day free trial, and HIPAA compliance. The free version backs up data to your removable media or to any servers under your control, but not to Crashplan’s servers.

    JungleDisk Small Business Online Data Backup Service

    JungleDisk offers zero-knowledge security similar to SpiderOak, and a unique pay-as-you-go pricing structure: you pay exactly for what you use, rather than purchasing fixed blocks of storage sizes. You can choose from two JungleDisk editions: Jungle Disk Workgroup and Jungle Disk Server. Workgroup is designed for a single user using one or more devices. Server comes with server-friendly reporting and remote administration features. The Server edition costs $5 per server per month plus $0.15 per GB. You have a choice of storing your data on Amazon’s S3 cloud service, or on the Rackspace Cloud. Rackspace is a popular and reliable hosting service, and it owns JungleDisk.

    Barracuda Small Business Online Data Backup Service

    Barracuda Backup Service . a higher-priced option for shops that want more control, flexibility, and comprehensive central administration of multiple locations, offers offsite network backups integrated with local backups.

    Offsite backups can be hosted on Barracuda’s cloud infrastructure or mirrored on your own sites, and you can mix-and-match local and remote storage. For example, you might store important files offsite and locally, and less-important files locally only.

    You get fine-grained scheduling control—from real-time backups of critcal files to whatever interval you want for other files. Barracuda meets HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley security requirements.

    Start by purchasing a Barracuda backup appliance—a dedicated backup server pre-loaded with backup and monitoring software. Prices start at $999 for the 100GB-capacity 190 model server (250GB raw capacity) and go all the way up to a base price of $135,000 for the model 1090, which has 112 TB raw capacity and about 50 TB of data backup capacity.

    Offsite storage costs $50 per month per 100GB, with no other costs; no agent, per-server, or client access licenses. You get 24×7 technical support, and continual monitoring of your server health.
