    In Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, you can use data loss prevention (DLP) policy templates to help meet the messaging policy and compliance needs of your organization. These templates contain pre-built sets of rules that can help you manage message data that is associated with several common legal and regulatory requirements. To see a list of all the templates supplied by Microsoft, see DLP policy templates supplied in Exchange. Example DLP templates that are supplied can help you manage:

    Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) data

    Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS)

    United States Personally Identifiable Information (U.S. PII)

    You can customize any of these DLP templates or use them as-is. DLP policy templates are built on top of transport rules that include new conditions or predicates and actions. DLP policies support the full range of traditional transport rules, and you can add the additional rules after a DLP policy has been established.     Configure both administrator and user accounts within your organization and validate basic mail flow.

    In the EAC, navigate to Compliance management Data loss prevention, and then click Add Data loss prevention policy example.

    On the Create a new DLP policy from a template page, complete the following fields:

    Name Add a name that will distinguish this policy from others.

    Description Add an optional description that summarizes this policy.

    Choose a template Select the appropriate template to begin creating a new policy.

    More options Select the mode or state. The new policy is not fully enabled until you specify that it should be. The default mode for a policy is test without notifications.

    Click Save to finish creating the policy.

    You can modify policies by editing the rules within them once the policy has been saved in your Exchange 2013 environment. An example rule change might include making specific people exempt from a policy or sending a notice and blocking message delivery if a message is found to have sensitive content.     You have to navigate to the specific policy’s rule set on the Edit DLP policy page and use the tools available on that page in order to change a DLP policy you have already created in Exchange 2013.

    Some policies allow the addition of rules that invoke RMS for messages. You must have RMS configured on the Exchange server before adding the actions to make use of these types of rules.

    For any of the DLP policies, you can change the rules, actions, exceptions, enforcement time period or whether other rules within the policy are enforced and you can add your own custom conditions for each.

    5 Types of Car Insurance Coverage Explained

    When you start to consider the various types of auto insurance coverage available it can get overwhelming.

    How do you know what types you need? Is it required by your state? Are there ways to save money and still have the right amount of coverage? Below we detail 5 types of coverages and provide a few scenarios where you would benefit from having a non-required coverage added to your policy along with some tips to save some money depending on your vehicle and budget.

    1. Liability Insurance

    Liability insurance covers you in the event you are in a covered car accident and it is determined the accident is a result of your actions. Liability insurance will cover the cost of repairing any property damaged by an accident as well as the medical bills from resulting injuries. Most states have a minimum requirement for the amount of liability insurance coverage that drivers must have. If you can afford it, however, it is usually a good idea to have liability insurance that is above your state’s minimum liability coverage requirement, as it will provide extra protection in the event you are found at fault for an accident, as you are responsible for any claims that exceed your coverage’s upper limit. You wouldn’t want to run the risk of having to pay a large amount of money because your policy limit has been exceeded.

    2. Collision Coverage

    If there is a covered accident, collision coverage will pay for the repairs to your car. If your car is totaled (where the cost to repair it exceeds the value of the vehicle) in an accident, collision coverage will pay the value of your car.

    If your car is older, it may not be worth carrying collision coverage on it, depending on the value. On the other hand, if you have a more expensive car or one that is relatively new, collision insurance can help get you back to where you were before any damage to your car. Note: If you have a lienholder, this coverage is required.

    3. Comprehensive Coverage

    What if something happens to your car that is unrelated to a covered accident – weather damage, you hit a deer, your car is stolen – will your insurance company cover the loss? Liability insurance and collision coverage cover accidents, but not these situations. These situations are covered by Comprehensive (other than Collision) coverage.

    Comprehensive coverage is one of those things that is great to have if it fits in your budget. Anti-theft and tracking devices on cars can make this coverage slightly more affordable, but carrying this type of insurance can be costly, and may not be necessary, especially if your car is easily replaceable. Note: If you have a lienholder, this coverage is required.

    4. Personal Injury Protection

    While Comprehensive coverage may be something you don t need to purchase, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is something you should. The costs associated from an accident can quickly add up, and in order to cover those costs Personal Injury Protection is available. With this coverage, your medical bills along with those of your passengers will be paid, no matter who is at fault for an accident. Note: This coverage is not available in all states.

    5. Uninsured /Underinsured Motorist Protection

    While state laws mandate that all drivers should be insured, this is unfortunately not always the case. Another issue that can arise is that while a driver may have liability insurance, many states have relatively low minimum coverage requirements that may not be enough to cover all of the expenses of an accident. So, if someone is legally responsible for damages related to an accident, you won’t receive any payment if they do not have coverage or you will receive less than you need to cover the cost of damages if your damages exceed their coverage amount. This is the type of situation where Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Protection would help with expenses.

    Saving tip: It’s usually relatively inexpensive to add uninsured/underinsured motorist protection to your car insurance policy, especially considering the amount of protection it offers.

    Are you covered by insurance if your dog bites a neighbor? How about if your tree falls on a neighbor’s fence? And what if you’re sued when someone slips and falls on your front walk? You can find the answers to these and other questions in the liability section of your homeowners policy.

    The second part of your homeowners policy focuses on liability. Here, you’re covered for bodily injury and property damage suffered by others in connection with your property. There are two types of liability coverage: personal liability coverage and medical payment coverage. You should understand the types of coverages, the exclusions from coverage, and the conditions that must be satisfied before liability coverage applies.

    Personal liability coverage pays damages to people injured by you or your property

    Most homeowners policies provide a standard amount of liability coverage (usually $100,000) per occurrence, but you may be able to increase this amount. If you or another insured are found responsible for someone else’s bodily injury or property damage, your personal liability coverage may kick in and pay the damages. If an injured or damaged person brings a lawsuit, your insurance company may also pay to defend you or any other insured named in the lawsuit. You should note, though, that you’re typically covered only for negligence (carelessness); you aren’t covered for intentional injuries and damage.

    The liability part of your homeowners insurance covers you both at home and away. It also covers those family members who live with you. It protects you against many types of accidents and occurrences, including slip-and-fall injuries on your property, dog bites to the letter carrier, and damage done to your neighbor’s siding by your son’s baseball. Read your policy carefully to find out what’s covered.

    Medical payments coverage pays an injured party’s medical bills

    If all conditions are met and no exclusions apply, your insurance company will pay the necessary medical expenses (for up to three years) of someone injured on or through your property. This coverage doesn’t apply to your own medical expenses and the medical expenses of your household residents, except for your household employees. Injuries that take place away from your premises are also covered, as long as you, another insured, a household employee, or your pet caused the injury.

    Medical expenses may include reasonable charges for medical, surgical, X-ray, dental, ambulance, hospital, and professional nursing services, as well as prosthetic devices and funeral services.

    What about exclusions from coverage and conditions of coverage?

    The liability insurance section of your homeowners policy also contains an exclusions section that denies or precludes coverage in specific instances. These exclusions are listed and described. For example, your homeowners policy won’t cover damages caused by your car. In addition, liability coverage doesn’t apply to injuries or damages arising from business or professional activities (including those related to a home office), to injuries or damages intentionally caused by you, or to injuries suffered by members of your household.

    Your insurance policy will also list the conditions you must satisfy before coverage will kick in. For instance, you’ll probably be required to provide written notice to your insurance company of any covered occurrences. You’ll also be obligated to promptly forward any notice, demand, or summons related to a claim.

    Make sure you read all exclusions and conditions carefully. If you don’t understand a particular point, ask your insurance agent.

    1) ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC TIME LIMITS FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY TO PAY FOR COLLISION OR COMPREHENSIVE CLAIMS?

    There are no specific time limits for the settlement of claims. Insurance companies are required by law to pay all claims in a prompt and reasonable amount of time. However, what constitutes “prompt and reasonable” may vary from claim to claim. Claims that require special or extended investigation may take longer to resolve. Inclement weather conditions often cause an increase in the number of claims filed and that can delay the process as well. If, however, the insurance company fails to pay a comprehensive or collision claim within seven days after it receives an official claim form stating that the vehicle has been repaired, the insured may sue for the payments claimed to be due.

    2) MY AUTO WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT. IS MY COMPANY REQUIRED TO GIVE ME THE REPLACEMENT COST?

    When your auto is declared a total loss, your insurance company will pay you only the actual cash value of the auto as of the date of the loss, not the cost to replace it. Your auto’s value is determined by the following factors: the retail value for an auto of like kind and quality prior to the accident; the price paid for the auto plus the value of prior improvements to the auto at the time of the accident; the decrease in value of the auto resulting from prior unrelated damage which is detected by the appraiser or for which a claim has been paid; and the actual purchase cost of an available auto of like kind and quality.
    If your auto has substantial value because of its exceptional condition such as an antique, classic, or restored auto, you should have it appraised and then insure it for the appraised value.

    3) DO I HAVE TO PAY AN INSURANCE PREMIUM AFTER MY AUTO IS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS?

    Yes, you must pay an insurance premium even if your auto is declared a total loss until such time that you return your license plates to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Your auto policy terminates when you return the license plates to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. If you don’t have your license plates because your auto was stolen or because your auto and plates were destroyed in a fire, you must go to the nearest Registry of Motor Vehicles office and obtain a lost or stolen plates receipt. This receipt must be presented to your insurance company in order to cancel your policy and avoid paying any additional premium.

    4) MAY I KEEP MY AUTO IF I HAVE A COLLISION, LIMITED COLLISION OR COMPREHENSIVE CLAIM AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARES IT A TOTAL LOSS?

    Your insurance company has the option to take title to your auto when it issues payment on your claim. The insurer is entitled to any salvage value your auto may have. You can, of course, negotiate with your company to purchase your auto for the agreed salvaged value.

    5) THE BODY SHOP IS REPAIRING MY AUTO AFTER AN INSURED LOSS. WILL MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAY FOR ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) PARTS?

    If the repair of the damaged part impairs the operational safety of the auto, the insurance company will pay to replace it with an OEM part. For non-safety parts, unless your claim occurs during the first 20,000 miles on the auto’s odometer, you are not entitled to OEM parts. For autos with more than 20,000 miles, state regulation allows for the replacement of damaged parts with used, reconditioned or after market parts. You can insist on OEM parts, but you will have to pay the difference in cost.

    6) AN OBJECT DAMAGED MY WINDSHIELD AND I AM UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHERE IT CAME FROM. AM I COVERED FOR THIS LOSS?

    Yes, if you have comprehensive insurance you are covered for the full amount of the loss, unless you opted for a $100 deductible for glass breakage. The $300, $500, or $1000 deductible, or whatever you may have selected for comprehensive coverage, does not apply to a glass loss.

    7) CAN MY INSURANCE COMPANY DENY A CLAIM FOR DAMAGES TO MY AUTO IF THE PRINCIPAL PLACE OF GARAGING LISTED ON MY APPLICATION IS FALSE?

    Yes. If you or someone on your behalf gives false, deceptive, misleading or incomplete information on any application and if such information increases the insurance company’s risk of loss, your company may then refuse to pay claims under any or all of the Optional Insurance coverages of the policy. Such information includes the description and place of garaging of the vehicles to be insured, the names of the operators required to be listed and the answers given for all listed operators. In the event that you have moved since you filled out your initial application, promptly notify your insurance company and the Registry of Motor Vehicles of your new address.

    8) IS MY INSURANCE COMPANY REQUIRED TO NOTIFY ME OF ITS DECISION TO CANCEL MY POLICY?

    Yes. Your company must send you a notice at least 20 days prior to the effective date of the cancellation. A notice sent by regular mail with a certificate of mailing receipt obtained from the Post Office is considered sufficient. Certified or registered mail with a return receipt is no longer required.

    9) WHAT CAN I DO IF I ACTUALLY RECEIVE A CANCELLATION NOTICE?

    If your policy is being cancelled because you have failed to pay your premium, you must pay your exact outstanding premium immediately to prevent cancellation. If you feel that the cancellation is unjust for any reason, you may submit a written appeal to the Board of Appeals at 1000 Washington St, Suite 810, Boston, MA 02118-6200. This must be done prior to the effective date of cancellation.

    10) WHO IS LIABLE FOR THE STORAGE CHARGES ON MY DAMAGED AUTO WHEN THERE IS A DISPUTE AS TO THE AMOUNT OF THE CLAIM PAYMENT?

    The insurance company is responsible for paying storage charges until it makes a reasonable offer to settle the claim. However, if the consumer disputes the amount offered and the company revises its offer, this does not necessarily mean that the original offer was unreasonable. Disputes over what is reasonable can be resolved with your company through the process described in your insurance policy. You can also submit a written complaint to the Division of Insurance if you are unable to settle the dispute.

    11) MAY AN INSURANCE COMPANY REQUEST A DOWN PAYMENT IN ADVANCE WHEN I PURCHASE OR RENEW AN AUTO INSURANCE POLICY? AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO PAY MY PREMIUM MONTHLY?

    Your insurance company may request up to a 30 percent down payment of the annual premium prior to the renewal or issuance of your policy. Many companies offer an installment payment plan for the balance of the premium. You should check with your agent or company to see what options are available to you.

    12) IF I OWN AN AUTO WITH COLLISION AND COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE, WILL MY INSURANCE APPLY TO A RENTAL OR BORROWED PRIVATE PASSENGER AUTO?

    Yes. Your collision and comprehensive insurance coverages are transferable to a substitute rented or borrowed private passenger auto that is damaged while it is being operated by you or members of your household with the consent of the owner. There is no coverage under your policy for family friends or significant others. You should be aware that your coverage is available only if you rent or borrow a private passenger auto in the United States or Canada. You should also be aware that your policy does not provide coverage for a borrowed or rented truck. If you are renting a truck, you should check with the rental company regarding the purchase of collision and comprehensive insurance. If you are borrowing a truck, make sure you determine whether or not the owner has purchased collision or comprehensive coverage. If the owner does not have insurance, you may be personally liable for any damage to that truck which is the result of your negligent operation. If the use is for business rather than pleasure, call your agent first. Business use is usually not covered under your personal auto insurance policy.

    13) HOW DO I GO ABOUT SWITCHING INSURANCE COMPANIES PRIOR TO THE END OF MY POLICY WITHOUT PAYING A PENALTY?

    Once you receive an invoice reflecting new (not estimated) rates and any applicable new deviations or discounts, you have 30 days to change insurance companies without paying a “short rate” penalty. If you make a change within this 30 day period, you will pay your former insurance company on a pro-rata basis at its newly established rates until the date the coverage with your new insurance company begins. If you choose to switch insurance companies after the 30 day period, you may be subject to a short rate penalty which decreases as your policy year progresses depending on the insurance company to which you transferred your coverage. You should ask your new insurance company whether it will reimburse you for these penalties.

It covers myriad other out-of-pocket costs that your health policy probably won t touch, including ambulance fees, chiropractic, dental, prosthetics and, in a worst-case scenario, funeral expenses.

    In the 12 no-fault states (Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Utah), MedPay can even pick up the co-pay on the personal injury protection. or PIP, portion of your car insurance or kick in seamlessly with 100 percent coverage after you ve exhausted your PIP.

    The premium for MedPay is so miniscule often less than $20 per year for up to $10,000 in coverage that the benefits you d receive on just one claim could pay for decades of peace of mind.

    For example, if your health insurance has a $1,000 deductible, a 20 percent co-pay and you have a $5,000 medical claim from an accident, with your health insurance you would typically pay $1,800 out of pocket, says Christy Moulton Perry, director of product management for Great Northwest Insurance Co. But with your MedPay, you would pay zero out of pocket. That s a big difference.

    MedPay can be especially important for drivers without health insurance. But forget about using it as a stand-alone substitute. You must carry auto liability coverage in order to purchase MedPay, and you d have to be injured in an auto-related accident to use it.

    Unlike liability coverage, MedPay policy limits do not refer to the total available coverage, but instead to the amount available to each covered injured individual. That means if you, your spouse and your two children were injured in an auto accident, each of you could collect the limit amount on your $5,000 MedPay coverage for a total of $20,000. However, your insurer won t pay the same bills under both your MedPay and liability coverage.

    If you live in one of the nearly 30 states that allow stacking of auto coverage, you may be able to stack your MedPay coverage by the number of vehicles on your auto policy. That means that if you own three insured vehicles and stack your $5,000 MedPay coverage, you would have a total of $15,000 in MedPay available to you or other covered individuals in an accident.

    Despite the compelling arguments in favor of MedPay, nearly one in four State Farm drivers chooses to roll without it in states where it is offered, according to spokesman Kip Diggs. Those who choose to do so can either afford to self-insure for the cost of items covered under MedPay or are willing to roll the dice if it means saving a couple of bucks a month.

    But Perry says a smarter move for many would be to boost coverage from the standard levels of $1,000 to $5,000 up to $10,000 or more. The cost to move from $2,000 to $10,000 in MedPay on a Travelers auto policy is around $10 per year, according to agent Shawn Wainwright of Brown Brown Insurance in Florida.

    Going up to $50,000 or even $100,000 usually costs very, very little and can be worth it, Perry says. I know one case where the driver only had $5,000 (MedPay) and had a serious accident in which she was disabled for a long time. A year and a half after her accident, her credit had been ruined because she had all of the hospital bills she couldn t pay. Even though the other car insurance company acknowledged liability, she had to wait for the entire claim to be closed before she could get that recovery.

    I generally would never tell anybody that they don t need it or don t have use for it, she says. You need that MedPay.

    Deceptive Insurance Deals (STOLIs)

    There’s an evil cousin of legitimate life settlements out there, says Jack Dolan, vice president for media relations with the American Council of Life Insurers. It’s called ‘Stranger-Originated Life Insurance,’ or ‘a STOLI arrangement,’ and it’s all about getting unsuspecting consumers to deceive the insurance industry, at great personal risk to the individuals.

    Here’s how a STOLI works:

    A STOLI promoter—generally a financially savvy person—approaches you about buying a hefty life insurance policy on yourself. Working independently of any insurance company, the third-party promoter promises you a big cash payment up front, will lend you money to pay the premiums for the first two years of the policy (the normal period in which an insurance company can contest a policy), and will then promise to forgive the loan.

    In exchange, you’re enticed to inflate the value of your assets on the insurance application, perhaps stating that you want to guarantee your family’s security after your death. If the scheme plays out successfully, it results in a policy with a face value that can be worth several million dollars. At the outset, you must agree to transfer ownership of your policy at the end of the two-year period to the STOLI promoter and investors, who will receive those millions upon your death.

    STOLI promoters typically target well-to-do, older adults who aren’t in the best of health, says Dolan. However, these peopleare healthy enough to pass a medical exam but probably don’t have more than five or so years to live. The speculators are essentially wagering on your dying soon.

    The success of a STOLI depends on a seductive approach that causes you not to examine it closely enough. But there are serious consequences if you participate in this scheme, many of which you may not see immediately. The possible ramifications include the following:

    Taxes, Taxes, and More Taxes: You’ll be taxed on the money the promoter gives you up front. And you could be taxed on the amount of the premium loan the promoter forgives. Some STOLI promoters pull out all the stops to court you into setting up a policy, even inviting you on all-expenses-paid luxury trips. But there is one vacation expense you’ll have to pay: taxes.

    Say Goodbye to Privacy: The sooner you die, the sooner the STOLI promoter and investors get paid. They’ll all but knock on your door to check in on how you’re doing.

    No More Insurance: By inflating your assets to increase the value of your insurance policy, you’ve become over-insured and are unlikely to be able to buy any more policies.

    You Could Get Caught: If your policy is found to be deceptive, the insurance company will likely rescind it, refund your premiums, and leave it at that. But it may also refer the case to state law-enforcement authorities for a fraud investigation and file an action against the STOLI promoter.

    U.S. military probing more possible civilian deaths in Yemen raid

    DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. (Reuters) – The U.S. military said on Wednesday it was looking into whether more civilians were killed in a raid on al Qaeda in Yemen on the weekend, in the first operation authorized by President Donald Trump as commander in chief.

    U.S. Navy SEAL William Ryan Owens was killed in the raid on a branch of al Qaeda, also known as AQAP, in al Bayda province, which the Pentagon said also killed 14 militants. However, medics at the scene said about 30 people, including 10 women and children, were killed.

    U.S. Central Command said in a statement that an investigating team had “concluded regrettably that civilian non-combatants were likely killed” during Sunday’s raid. It said children may have been among the casualties.

    Central Command said its assessment “seeks to determine if there were any still-undetected civilian casualties in the ferocious firefight.”

    U.S. military officials told Reuters that Trump approved his first covert counterterrorism operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support or adequate backup preparations.

    As a result, three officials said, the attacking SEAL team found itself dropping onto a reinforced al Qaeda base defended by landmines, snipers, and a larger than expected contingent of heavily armed Islamist extremists.

    The Pentagon directed queries about the officials’ characterization of the raid to U.S. Central Command, which pointed only to its statement on Wednesday.

    “CENTCOM asks for operations we believe have a good chance for success and when we ask for authorization we certainly believe there is a chance of successful operations based on our planning,” CENTCOM spokesman Colonel John Thomas said.

    “Any operation where you are going to put operators on the ground has inherent risks,” he said.

    The U.S. officials said the extremists base had been identified as a target before the Obama administration left office on Jan. 20, but then-President Barack Obama held off approving a raid ahead of his departure.

    A White House official said the operation was thoroughly vetted by the previous administration and that the previous defense secretary had signed off on it in January. The raid was delayed for operational reasons, the White House official said.

    The military officials who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said “a brutal firefight” killed Owens and at least 15 Yemeni women and children. One of the dead was the 8-year-old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki, a militant killed by a 2011 U.S. drone strike.

    Some of the women were firing at the U.S. force, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis told reporters.

    Intelligence Gathered

    The American elite forces did not seize any militants or take any prisoners offsite, but White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Wednesday the raid yielded benefits.

    “Knowing that we killed an estimated 14 AQAP members and that we gathered an unbelievable amount of intelligence that will prevent the potential deaths or attacks on American soil is something that I think most service members understand, that that s why they joined the service, Spicer said.

    A senior leader in Yemen’s al Qaeda branch, Abdulraoof al-Dhahab, and other militants were killed in the gunbattle, al Qaeda said.

    One of the three U.S. officials said on-the-ground surveillance of the compound was minimal, at best.

    The decision was made. to leave it to the incoming administration, partly in the hope that more and better intelligence could be collected, that official said.

    As Sunday’s firefight intensified, the raiders called in Marine helicopter gunships and Harrier jump jets, and then two MV-22 Osprey vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to extract the SEALs.

    One of the two suffered engine failure, two of the officials said, and hit the ground so hard that two crew members were injured, and one of the Marine jets had to launch a precision-guided bomb to destroy it.

    Trump traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday in an unexpected visit to meet the family of Owens, who had been a chief special warfare operator.

    Disk Cleanup Utility

    To keep a PC running smoothly, regular maintenance is critical. Many users shy away from maintenance tasks, thinking it is a long, drawn out manual affair, but the Disk Cleanup Utility can easily determine which files on a hard drive may no longer be needed and delete those files. In addition to freeing up potentially significant amounts of hard drive space, using Disk Cleanup on a regular basis can significantly improve system performance.

    Starting Disk Cleanup

    Disk Cleanup is available on both Home and Professional versions of XP. The utility can be accessed using the methods listed below.

    • Click Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup
    • Click Start | Run and in the Open box type cleanmgr and click OK
    • In Windows Explorer or My Computer, right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, click Properties. click the General tab, and then click Disk Cleanup .

    Use the drop down menu arrow to select the drive you want to clean.

    Click [OK ] and Disk Cleanup will analyze the selected drive to determine the amount of space that can be freed.

    Note: Be patient. Analyzing the drive can be a lengthy process depending on drive size and contents.

    Once the drive analysis is complete a list of file categories will be presented for your selection.

    Instead of automatically proceeding with cleanup once the drive analysis is complete, Disk Cleanup allows you to review the categories of files that can be deleted. Click on any of the categories to display more information relative to that category in the Description section of the window. If you re unsure if you want to delete the files in a category from the description, use the [View Files ] button. A complete list of files scheduled for deletion will be displayed in Windows Explorer. Use drag and drop to move any files you want to save to a safe location and leave the category selected. If all the files are to be saved, close the window and then remove the checkmark from the file category so it will not be included in the disk cleanup. After all the categories have been reviewed, click [OK ] to begin the disk cleanup process.

    File Categories in Disk Cleanup Utility

    There are a number of different types of file categories that Disk Cleanup targets when it performs the initial disk analysis. Depending on the individual system, you may or may not have all the categories listed below. An excellent example of this would be Backup Files from a Previous Operating System. If a clean install of XP was performed then this category will not exist. It pays to click on each of the categories and note that the [View Files] button can change depending on the category selected.

    Downloaded Program Files

    These are ActiveX controls and Java applets downloaded from Web sites that are temporarily stored in the Downloaded Program Files folder. It s not program files or zip files that you have downloaded from other locations.

    Temporary Internet Files

    This refers to Internet Explorer s cache of Web pages that are stored on the hard drive for quicker viewing. None of your personal web settings are affected by selecting this category, nor does it delete any cookie files.

    The main thing to be aware of in this category is that it only refers to the Recycle Bin for the selected hard drive or partition. This is important since XP uses an individual Recycle Bin for each drive and partition, not just one as is the case in some Windows versions.

    Temporary Remote Desktop Files

    These files are the result of using the Remote Desktop utility. If you repeatedly use Remote Desktop with the same computer or group of computers, leaving these files intact will maintain the speed of future connections. Deleting them will necessitate downloading the remote systems icons and wallpaper the next time a connection is established.

    Setup Log Files

    These are really pretty useless unless you have a specific reason to go back and see what occurred during XP setup.

    Backup Files For Previous Operating System

    I mentioned this category earlier as one you may not have, but if you did upgrade from a previous Windows version and selected the option to be able to uninstall XP, it may well exist. It takes some major hard drive space to copy all the files necessary to back up a previous system s core files, drivers, etc. This entry can range anywhere from a few hundred megabytes up to a gigabyte, so unless you are still considering dumping XP this is a good category to select.

    Users with slower dialup connections and those using laptops frequently make websites they use often available offline. Depending on how many levels deep you save the sites, they can eat up gigabytes of hard drive space very quickly. Worse than taking up space, the sites often contain outdated information. A good candidate for deletion.

    Compress Old Files

    Unlike the other categories, Compress Old Files doesn t delete any files from the drive. It compresses files that Windows hasn t accessed for a specified period of time. The files are still available, but there will be a slight increase in access times because the files will be decompressed the next time they are accessed. Note that when Compress Old Files is highlighted an Options button appears. Clicking it will allow you to set the number of days to wait before an unaccessed file is compressed.

    There may be other categories that appear in your Disk Cleanup window, but in all cases, highlighting the item will display an explanation of the category in the Description area.

    More Options Tab

    In addition to the categories that appear on the Disk Cleanup tab, the More Options tab offers additional opportunities for freeing up hard drive real estate. There is nothing on this tab that isn t available elsewhere within XP in stand alone fashion, but having them grouped here does serve as a convenient reminder.

    In Windows XP there are three choices available on the More Options tab: Windows Components, Installed Programs, and System Restore.

    The Cleanup button in the Windows Components section launches the Windows Components Wizard. Select a general category of components and drill down using the Details button to locate the desired Windows component.

    The Cleanup button in the Installed Programs section opens the Add/Remove Programs dialog box. Any installed program can be removed by selecting the individual program and clicking the Change/Remove button. You cannot batch programs together to be removed. Each removal operation must be treated as a separate entity.

    Clicking the Cleanup button in the System Restore section opens a dialog box where it asks if you are sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point. The difference between using this option and going directly to System Restore is that you have no option to selectively delete restore points with this method. It s all but most recent or nothing when accessed via Disk Cleanup. Click Yes or No depending on your choice.

    Post Disk Cleanup Procedures

    Using Disk Cleanup will almost certainly rid your system of a substantial amount of unneeded files. You could stop here and not suffer any ill consequences, but there are a lot of gaps and empty spaces on the hard drive where the files were removed. This would be an excellent time to run Disk Defragmenter to organize the hard drive into contiguous sections. The hard drive heads will spend less time seeking all the pieces of a file and you ll see another performance boost.

    For many months now I ve been posting a reminder about Patch Tuesday or Second Tuesday as it has come to be known when Microsoft releases the latest round of updates for Windows XP and other products.

    As always, I strongly suggest you read about any update prior to installation, especially updates carrying a less than Critical rating, and have a current system and data backup available in case it s necessary to restore the system to a pre-patch condition.

    The Elder Geek sites contain many articles and suggestions for modifying the Windows operating system. I’ve tried these tweaks and tips on many systems. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. The point is, ensure you have a current, tested backup of all system and data files and understand how to restore the system in case something goes very wrong.     What is workers’ compensation?

    Workers’ compensation is an insurance program established by State law that all employers having one or more employees, full or part-time, are required to have for the benefit of their employees. With few exceptions, every employer in the State of Maryland with one or more employees is required by law to provide workers’ compensation coverage for their employees. An employer or employee cannot waive provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Law.

    What benefits are provided by this insurance?

    To be covered under workers’ compensation, an employee must have received an accidental personal injury while working (‘on the job’). The injury must have arisen ‘out of and in the course of employment’ in the words of the law. Not all workplace injuries are compensable. If your injury is determined to be covered then the employer or the employer’s insurance carrier will provide medical and hospital treatment and partial income replacement benefits until you can return to work or until you reach maximum medical improvement.

    The cost of workers’ compensation insurance itself is borne entirely by the employer. No payroll deductions are taken out of individual employees’ paychecks. If your claim is found to be compensable your weekly benefits and all medical bills will be paid directly by your employer or their insurer. DO NOT send bills to the Workers’ Compensation Commission.

    What information is the employer required to provide with respect to worker’s compensation?

    State law requires every employer to post an official notice in a prominent site at the workplace. It’s usually put up on an employee bulletin board, by a time clock, in an employee lunchroom or some similar location where workers will see it. The poster identifies the employer as having obtained workers’ compensation insurance and it outlines the responsibilities of both employers and employees. It also provides the employers full legal name, address, the Employer’s Federal Identification Number (FEIN) and the name of the insurance company providing this insurance. This information is needed when filling out a claim form.

    When should I report the accident?

    You should report any accident to your employer immediately. A delay in reporting may affect your claim.

    When and how do I file a claim?

    If you believe you have suffered a compensable injury, you may file a claim with the Workers’ Compensation Commission by filling out an Employee Claim Form and then mailing it to the Commission. If your employer does not have one of these claim forms the Commission will send you one and all of the necessary information you may need. Forms are provided without charge.
    You can also submit your claim form online; print, sign and mail the form to the Commission.

    What do I do about a doctor?

    Your employer or your employer’s insurer will pay for your doctor’s visits and treatment if the injury is covered under Workers’ Compensation.

    What medical treatment will workers’ compensation insurance pay for?

    All doctor bills, hospital bills, physical therapy, prescriptions and necessary expenses related to the accidental injury are covered by this insurance up to the limits established by the Official Maryland Workers’ Compensation Medical Fee Guide.

    When am I entitled to benefits?

    You are entitled to income replacement benefits if you miss more than three (3) days from work. If you miss more than 14 days you will also be paid for the first three days, provided your employer did not pay you for any of these days. When your claim is received by the Commission (in the mail) a claim number and a ‘consideration date’ is assigned to it. The consideration date means that we allow your employer or his insurer until that date to raise any objections they may have to your claim.

    What if there are objections?

    The employer or insurance carrier will probably contact you directly and tell you what the objections are. They must also inform the Commission, stating their objections or issues in writing. If your claim is contested by the employer/insurer, it will be scheduled for a hearing before a Commissioner. You will be notified by mail.

    How much are the income replacement benefits?

    These benefits are called ‘Temporary Total Disability Payments’ and you should receive two thirds of your average weekly wage, but not more than the State’s average weekly wage for the year in which the accident occurred.

    How long will I receive these benefits?

    You will receive temporary total disability payments so long as you are unable to work because of the accidental injury or until you reach maximum medical improvement.

    What if my injury prevents me from returning to my job?

    If you are not capable of returning to your job or some other comparable job for which you are qualified, you may be eligible for vocational rehabilitation and training. Call the Workers’ Compensation Commission for more information.

    What is Vocational Rehabilitation?

    Vocational Rehabilitation is a process whereby a worker who cannot return to his former job as a result of an injury on the job is assisted in re-entering the workforce. A specialist in vocational rehabilitation provides services to the injured worker to enable them to return to work. Services may include testing, job placement, vocational counseling, on the job training and retraining.

    You may be a candidate for vocational rehabilitation if your injury is severe enough to keep you from returning to the occupation you held at the time of the injury. Your doctor may recommend that you find another occupation. You should be medically unable to continue with or return to your former job.

    What kind of benefits will I receive if I have a permanent disability?

    You will receive weekly benefits for a specified period of time based on the type and extent of your permanent disability. Benefits for workers who have been totally and permanently disabled may continue indefinitely. Medical evaluations are usually required to establish the nature and extent of any permanent disability.

    What happens after I file a claim?

    If you do not receive any benefits from your employer or their insurer, or are not receiving the benefits to which you believe you are entitled, you may request a hearing before the Workers’ Compensation Commission. Your case will be decided by a Commissioner who, like a judge, listens to both sides of the case and determines what benefits, if any, you should receive. The Commissioner’s decision will be based on the law and facts involved in your particular case. Any party disagreeing with a decision of the Commission may file an appeal with the Circuit Court.     Do I have to have a lawyer?

    You may have an attorney of your choice to represent you, or you may represent yourself. The Commission itself does not represent you nor can any Commissioner be your attorney.

    Who pays the attorney?

    Do not pay money to anyone to assist you with your claim. If you hire a lawyer the Commission will fix the attorney’s fees. If an award is made to you, the fee will be deducted from your awards and paid separately by the employer or insurance company to the attorney.

    Review the Principles of Use

    • The ASHP Foundation Outsourcing Sterile I.V. Compounding Services Vendor Assessment Tool incorporates regulations from FDA, USP and other federal level guidelines which are subject to change. Applicable regulations can be considered current as of June 2015 and users should check for updates to applicable regulations
    • This tool provides a way to systematically review prospective outsourcing facilities and compounding pharmacies. Outsourcing facilities are a new category of drug compounder that may legally provide non-patient-specific compounded preparations to hospitals and other providers, but must meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (the quality standards applied to FDA-regulated drug manufacturers) and submit to regular FDA inspections. The differences between outsourcing facilities and compounding pharmacies are detailed in ASHP Guidelines on Outsourcing Sterile Compounding Services. For the purposes of this tool, outsourcing facilities and compounding pharmacies will be collectively referred to as “vendors”
    • When outsourcing sterile products preparation services, every hospital/health system-based department of pharmacy should take a comprehensive and organized approach to vendor selection.
    • Departments of pharmacy are strongly encouraged to engage other key hospital/health system stakeholders in the vendor selection process.

    Minimum Requirements for a Vendor

    When outsourcing the production of sterile products the first step in vendor evaluation is to see if they meet the minimum requirements. We’ve developed a group of questions that can be used to qualify a vendor. There is not an absolute score for this section. A pie chart will be displayed upon the completion of all of step 1. Areas of green represent the percentage of questions answered that are in compliance with applicable standards based on your answers to the questions. Areas in yellow indicate the vendor is partially compliant based on the applicable standard. Areas in orange indicate areas to follow-up on because you indicated you do not know the answer to the items. Caution should be used in evaluating a vendor with more than 10% orange as this indicates there are likely too many unknowns about that vendor to make an informed decision. Consider reevaluating the vendor once you have further information. The red section of the chart indicates the percentage of questions answered in such a way that the vendor is considered noncompliant with the applicable standards. Once a vendor has been qualified we suggest further assessment of the vendor to determine which vendor is the best fit for your hospital or health-system.

    Unlike other degree programs that cover a range of policy areas, the Heller School MPP focuses specifically on domestic social policy. This allows our students to dig into the social issues they’re most passionate about, because we believe that if you want to create systemic change, you need to think beyond the status quo.

    The Heller MPP is a two-year program to develop the skill set that every policy analyst and social change agent needs to be successful. It starts by learning how to conduct sophisticated structural analysis.     Obama Student Loan Policy Reaping $51 Billion Profit

    The Obama administration is forecast to turn a record $51 billion profit this year from student loan borrowers, a sum greater than the earnings of the nation’s most profitable companies and roughly equal to the combined net income of the four largest U.S. banks by assets.

    Figures made public Tuesday by the Congressional Budget Office show that the nonpartisan agency increased its 2013 fiscal year profit forecast for the Department of Education by 43 percent to $50.6 billion from its February estimate of $35.5 billion.

    Exxon Mobil Corp. the nation’s most profitable company, reported $44.9 billion in net income last year. Apple Inc. recorded a $41.7 billion profit in its 2012 fiscal year, which ended in September, while Chevron Corp. reported $26.2 billion in earnings last year. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo reported a combined $51.9 billion in profit last year.

    The estimated increase in the Education Department’s earnings from student borrowers and their families may cause a political firestorm in Washington, where members of Congress and Obama administration officials thus far have appeared content to allow students to line government coffers.

    The Education Department has generated nearly $120 billion in profit off student borrowers over the last five fiscal years, budget documents show, thanks to record relative interest rates on loans as well as the agency’s aggressive efforts to collect defaulted debt. Representatives of the Education Department and Congressional Budget Office could not be reached for comment after normal business hours.

    The new profit prediction comes as Washington policymakers increasingly focus on soaring student debt levels and the record relative interest rates that borrowers pay as a potential impediment to economic growth. Regulators and officials at agencies that include the Federal Reserve. Treasury Department, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Reserve Bank of New York have all warned that student borrowing may dampen consumption, depress the economy, limit credit creation or pose a threat to financial stability.

    At $1.1 trillion, student debt eclipses all other forms of household debt, except for home mortgages. It’s also the only kind of consumer debt that has increased since the onset of the financial crisis, according to the New York Fed. Officials in Washington are worried that overly indebted student borrowers are unable to save enough to purchase a home, take out loans for new cars, start a business or save enough for their retirement.

    Policymakers also are worried about the effect that high interest rates on outstanding student debt may have on the broader economy. Congress sets interest rates on federal student loans, with rates fixed on the majority of loans at 6.8 and 7.9 percent.

    But as the Federal Reserve attempts to lower borrowing costs for everyone from households and small businesses to large corporations and Wall Street banks, student borrowers have not been able to benefit.

    Compared to a benchmark interest rate — what the U.S. government pays to borrow for 10 years — student borrowers have never paid more. increasing the burden of their student debt as wage increases and yields on investments and bank accounts fail to keep up with the relative increase in student loan interest payments.

    President Barack Obama recently asked Congress to tie federal student loan interest rates to the U.S. government’s borrowing costs. In a possible sign of congressional intent, leading Democratic senators on Tuesday proposed legislation that would keep existing interest rates on some student loans for the neediest households fixed at 3.4 percent, rather than allowing them to revert back to their original 6.8 percent rate.

    The legislation, dubbed the “Student Loan Affordability Act” and proposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), aims to help a small subset of future student borrowers who take out loans over the next two years. The bill does nothing for existing student debtors.

    “Today’s figures from the CBO underscore the urgent need for Congress to prevent the July 1 interest rate hike and address the crushing debt placed on students,” said Tiffany Edwards, spokeswoman for Democrats on the House Education and Workforce Committee.

    Rohit Chopra, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau official overseeing the regulator’s student debt efforts, has warned policymakers to not focus solely on future borrowers.

    “The whole student loan problem is a problem that should be of deep concern to this body,” said Richard Cordray, CFPB director, during testimony last month before the Senate Banking Committee. “These are young people that we should care a great deal about.”

    “They’re the ones with the ambition, aspirations and dreams, and they’re getting saddled with debt that they don’t understand,” Cordray said of student borrowers. “It’s holding them back and it’s making them unable to rise and succeed and become leaders in our society.”

    He added: “It’s a significant problem and we’re going to be doing everything that we can to address it at the bureau.”

    The CFPB has been focusing on helping existing borrowers refinance high-rate debt or modify the terms of their loans. In a report earlier this month. the CFPB lamented that borrowers are unable to refinance their obligations after they have graduated from college and secured well-paying jobs.

    “Corporate entities, homeowners, and many others have been able to refinance debt at quite low rates, and student loan borrowers are wondering why they can’t do the same,” Chopra said.

    The CFPB suggests that increased concentration in the student loan market may inhibit refinancings and debt workouts. Lenders and the Education Department profit when borrowers pay higher rates than they otherwise would in a normally-functioning market.

    Unlike traditional lenders, though, the Education Department’s profits are barely dented by loan defaults. For loans made in 2013 that eventually default, the department estimates it will recover between 76 cents and 82 cents on the dollar. Bankruptcy rarely discharges student debt.

    The Education Department’s collection efforts are aided by loan default specialists, including NCO Group Inc.. a company owned by JPMorgan.

Apple Inc. recorded a $41.7 billion profit in its 2012 fiscal year, which ended in September, while Chevron Corp. reported $26.2 billion in earnings last year. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo reported a combined $51.9 billion in profit last year.

    The estimated increase in the Education Department’s earnings from student borrowers and their families may cause a political firestorm in Washington, where members of Congress and Obama administration officials thus far have appeared content to allow students to line government coffers.

    The Education Department has generated nearly $120 billion in profit off student borrowers over the last five fiscal years, budget documents show, thanks to record relative interest rates on loans as well as the agency’s aggressive efforts to collect defaulted debt. Representatives of the Education Department and Congressional Budget Office could not be reached for comment after normal business hours.

    The new profit prediction comes as Washington policymakers increasingly focus on soaring student debt levels and the record relative interest rates that borrowers pay as a potential impediment to economic growth. Regulators and officials at agencies that include the Federal Reserve. Treasury Department, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Reserve Bank of New York have all warned that student borrowing may dampen consumption, depress the economy, limit credit creation or pose a threat to financial stability.

    At $1.1 trillion, student debt eclipses all other forms of household debt, except for home mortgages. It’s also the only kind of consumer debt that has increased since the onset of the financial crisis, according to the New York Fed. Officials in Washington are worried that overly indebted student borrowers are unable to save enough to purchase a home, take out loans for new cars, start a business or save enough for their retirement.

    Policymakers also are worried about the effect that high interest rates on outstanding student debt may have on the broader economy. Congress sets interest rates on federal student loans, with rates fixed on the majority of loans at 6.8 and 7.9 percent.

    But as the Federal Reserve attempts to lower borrowing costs for everyone from households and small businesses to large corporations and Wall Street banks, student borrowers have not been able to benefit.

    Compared to a benchmark interest rate — what the U.S. government pays to borrow for 10 years — student borrowers have never paid more. increasing the burden of their student debt as wage increases and yields on investments and bank accounts fail to keep up with the relative increase in student loan interest payments.

    President Barack Obama recently asked Congress to tie federal student loan interest rates to the U.S. government’s borrowing costs. In a possible sign of congressional intent, leading Democratic senators on Tuesday proposed legislation that would keep existing interest rates on some student loans for the neediest households fixed at 3.4 percent, rather than allowing them to revert back to their original 6.8 percent rate.

    The legislation, dubbed the “Student Loan Affordability Act” and proposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), aims to help a small subset of future student borrowers who take out loans over the next two years. The bill does nothing for existing student debtors.

    “Today’s figures from the CBO underscore the urgent need for Congress to prevent the July 1 interest rate hike and address the crushing debt placed on students,” said Tiffany Edwards, spokeswoman for Democrats on the House Education and Workforce Committee.

    Rohit Chopra, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau official overseeing the regulator’s student debt efforts, has warned policymakers to not focus solely on future borrowers.

    “The whole student loan problem is a problem that should be of deep concern to this body,” said Richard Cordray, CFPB director, during testimony last month before the Senate Banking Committee. “These are young people that we should care a great deal about.”

    “They’re the ones with the ambition, aspirations and dreams, and they’re getting saddled with debt that they don’t understand,” Cordray said of student borrowers. “It’s holding them back and it’s making them unable to rise and succeed and become leaders in our society.”

    He added: “It’s a significant problem and we’re going to be doing everything that we can to address it at the bureau.”

    The CFPB has been focusing on helping existing borrowers refinance high-rate debt or modify the terms of their loans. In a report earlier this month. the CFPB lamented that borrowers are unable to refinance their obligations after they have graduated from college and secured well-paying jobs.

    “Corporate entities, homeowners, and many others have been able to refinance debt at quite low rates, and student loan borrowers are wondering why they can’t do the same,” Chopra said.

    The CFPB suggests that increased concentration in the student loan market may inhibit refinancings and debt workouts. Lenders and the Education Department profit when borrowers pay higher rates than they otherwise would in a normally-functioning market.

    Unlike traditional lenders, though, the Education Department’s profits are barely dented by loan defaults. For loans made in 2013 that eventually default, the department estimates it will recover between 76 cents and 82 cents on the dollar. Bankruptcy rarely discharges student debt.

    The Education Department’s collection efforts are aided by loan default specialists, including NCO Group Inc.. a company owned by JPMorgan.
