The Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities (IIF) program provides annual information on the rate and number of work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatal injuries, and how these statistics vary by incident, industry, geography, occupation, and other characteristics. These data are collected through the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII ) and the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI ).

Important note on future data: Beginning with the 2016 reference year, the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) will present a single release of national data on November 9, 2017. This release will include industry counts and rates along with case circumstances and worker characteristics for cases requiring days away from work; in previous years, these data were released separately. State data will be released on November 28, 2017. A similar schedule will be followed in subsequent years.

As of October 1, 2016, BLS is piloting researcher access to the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses restricted data at Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDCs), in addition to restricted data files for selected statistical research projects onsite at the BLS national office in Washington, DC. More information on accessing SOII data can be found at https://www.bls.gov/rda/home.htm .

Texas Harassment Laws

Locate a Local Employment Lawyer

What Are Sexual Harassment Claims?

There are two general types of sexual harassment claims under employment laws and policies. These are:

  • Hostile work environment. This is an overall, pervasive atmosphere of hostility or inappropriateness
  • Quid pro quo. This is a this for that type of harassment where one employer or employee attempts to exchange work benefits for favors of a sexual nature from the victim

When proving sexual harassment, the employee usually needs to provide evidence of their harm, as well as support for damages, such as lost wages or a lost promotion. Sexual harassment can also occur in non-work settings, such as during a company sponsored outing or meeting.

How Can I File a Harassment Claim in Texas?

When filing a harassment claim in the state of Texas, it s usually necessary to file with a government agency first, such as the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The commission will usually launch an investigation into the matter to determine whether a violation has occurred. The TWC also acts as a neutral fact-finder to establish which facts are true in the case and which might not be.

Texas state laws on harassment may be slightly different from federal standards, as they also cover criminal harassment. Federal harassment cases are usually processed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). However, cases filed with the Texas Workforce Commission are also reviewed by the EEOC. The victim of the harassment usually needs to file with the TWC see first.

Lastly, it may be possible to file a private lawsuit against the employer, depending on the type of harassment involved. Again, it s usually a requirement that the person file with the TWC before filling a private lawsuit for damages. Texas lawsuits against employers can also be filed as a class action suit if many persons have been victimized through sexual harassment in the workplace.

Do I Need a Lawyer for Help With Texas Harassment Laws?

If you need to file a claim for harassment in Texas, you may wish to contact a qualified lawyer in your area. Your attorney can assist you the various filing procedures, and can represent you in court if necessary. LegalMatch can match you with qualified employment law attorneys in areas of Texas like Dallas. San Antonio. and other major cities.

How do used car loans work?

I have some general questions about financing a used car

My current car, a 1995 Volvo 850 with around 200,000 miles, has been giving me some trouble. First, the A/C died, which for someone who likes to keep their surroundings as cold as possible is pretty annoying. It sounds like that may simply be a relay that needs to be replaced. Second, there was a good amount of white smoking blowing out of my tailpipe this afternoon. I’m worried that it may be a headgasket or a gasket on my turbo. I’m going to see the mechanic tomorrow morning.

Assuming that repairing my 15-year-old car will cost me many hundreds if not thousands of dollars, I’ve been looking into getting a replacement. I’ve tried my best to research various used car loans online. I’ve got $2000-$2500 to use a down payment. Ideally I’d replace this car with the same exact model, only with less miles. I love my Volvo.

It seems like many lenders limit the model year they will loan money for to newer (within the last 5 or so years) models. Is this true of most lenders? Will it be tough to get a $3000-$5000 loan for a late 90s model?

If I do get a loan, am I free to purchase the car wherever I want? Private seller? Dealership? Used car lot? How does this work? Does the bank give me a blank check with the stipulation that I can only spend up to $xxxx? Do I need to tell the seller/dealership to contact my lender to receive the money?

I currently do the majority of my banking online with ING Direct. They do not offer car loans. There are several banks near me, including PNC and my employers credit union. Generally, do you need to have an account at the bank to get a loan from them?

This is a tough situation for me, as I recently graduated from college and moved away from home. I don’t have any friends who can give me rides or help me look for a car. I’d like to be prepared if I need to start the process of finding a loan and then purchasing a car.

I bank at a local credit union in the metro NY area (and have commented about using credit unions here in the past ) and recommend that route.

My credit union will only give car loans for cars 10 years or younger. Why? Because the car is collateral in case you don’t pay back the loan. If the car stop working and you cannot afford to fix it, the credit union doesn’t want to repo a busted car.

Want a car loan? Need an account. The minimum for a savings account there is $5. Get pre-approved for the loan in the amount so you know that you’ll be able to finance it when you start shopping around. You’ll have to use a bank if you buy from an individual. If you buy from a business, they will attempt to loan you the money as well. There’s tons written about financing cars at dealerships and car negotiating for you to read. Commonly, it is recommended that you do not walk in and announce that you’ve been pre-approved elsewhere or for what amount.

Huh. I was not previously aware of the limitation on model years for car loans.

Well, the issue with car loans is that they will take a security interest in your car, so the car is collateral on the loan and therefore the lender has to care about the quality/upkeep of the car (FYI, there is typically a minimum amount of comprehensive and/or collision insurance coverage required when you take out an auto loan).

One potential alternative is a line of credit or personal loan. Discover has such a product, though I’m sure there are other, similar alternatives, possibly even one at your local credit union. This is different from a credit card in that 1) the interest rate tends to be lower, and 2) the monthly payment and payment term are fixed. For a small amount such as you are planning to borrow ($3-5K), it may be entirely feasible to get a personal loan.

The upside is that they do not care at all what you spend it on, or require any particular level of insurance on your car. The downside is that the interest rate may be a couple points worse than that of a car loan, and your repayment term may well be shorter (24-36 months is common), so the monthly payments will be higher.

posted by rkent at 8:00 PM on May 25, 2010

What the others said reflects my experience too, but I will add one bit of advice.

Last time I bought a car, I arranged for financing ahead of time with my credit union. I qualified for their very best rate, which turned out to be the lowest rate among about 10 banks and credit unions I checked. I wound up buying a very slightly used car from a dealer and the manufacturer had incentive financing which was about one percent lower than that. The finance guy at the dealership somehow wound up finding financing through the dealer services department at a major national bank which was even 1% lower than the manufacturer’s deal.

The point is that you should come prepared with your own financing in place, but be open to the possibility of a better deal. Also be aware that some dealers try to simulate a better deal by giving you a lower rate but a higher overall price. For that reason, you should negotiate on the price and all other details before you even begin talking to the dealer about financing. You should also make it clear that you’re totally indifferent about the car and prepared to walk at the first sign of nonsense.

Hard Money: What Is It and How Do Hard Money Loans Work?

Most real estate investors hear terms that they don t understand in the beginning. One of these terms, hard money. is little understood, and frequently asked about. Here is a great explanation of hard money.

What Does Everyone Mean by Hard Money? What is Hard Money

Hard money lenders (HMLs) are typically private individuals or small groups that lend money (Hard money) based on the property you are buying, and not on your credit score. Usually these loans cost (percentage-wise) much more then an average mortgage. often times up to twice what a regular mortgage does, plus high origination fees.

Who Needs Hard Money

Developers and house flippers, amongst others, will use it to fund deals because you can often borrow up to 100% of your purchase price! On the other hand, hard money lenders will frequently require you to back up your loan with real assets. If you know you can buy a property and turn it quickly at huge profit, and you can t get a standard mortgage, it might be one way to go. Some investors use hard money to get into the property, do some quick fixes to raise the property value, then get a new loan (based on the property s new, improved value) from a bank to pay off the hard money lender.

In Other Words.

Hard money loans are easily accessed and cut through the red tape. If you can develop a relationship with a LOCAL hard money lender, you can get funds within a couple days, and sometimes with no appraisal or other costs (except for origination fees of course).

Now different HML s have different requirements and protocol. There is a local HML that only charges 12% interest and 1 point origination if you keep it over a year and 2 more points if you keep it less than a year. He only does 30 year notes, and obviously he wants you to keep it. He has over 1100 notes, so he doesn t want the hassle. He wants his money to stay loaned out. I have also worked with another local HML who doesn t charge any points, but he s extremely fickle and can be hard to work with.

Now the typical HML will charge somewhere right around the usury rate. In Texas its 18% annual, so most HML s will charge 5% origination and 13% interest on a 1 year note or no points upfront and 18% interest with a shorter call. Now they can get around usuary by shifting their origination fee into a commitment fee (little different protocol), but most HML s don t know this.

The beauty of HML s is that the loan is normally not based on your credit score (especially with local lenders) or at least not on your credit worthiness (assets and income), you can receive funding within a matter of days (normally about 7-14 days) rather than 30 days+, and you can get a loan on any piece of junk that you find. You also are not normally dealing with a processing team. You deal directly with an individual lender. If he or she says yes, then you have the loan. This is quite advantageous versus going through an entire loan committee process or underwriting process.

HML s on longer term investments are not a good idea, but for short term flips, rehabs, or for the initial purchase, they can be a very strong tool. I started my investing using HML s, and have made very good money using them. I now use mostly a line of credit from the bank, but it took me several years to work into that. I also now do some local hard money loans to other investors.

    Advanced Standing MSW Program #advanced #standing #social #work #programs

    #

    Graduate School of Social Work

    Advanced Standing MSW Program

You can enter our MSW program with advanced standing if you have a baccalaureate degree in social work from an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.

As a student with advanced standing, you’ll begin the program in early July and complete your MSW degree during one academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters).

NOTE: To ensure that students who have earned a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program do not repeat what has been mastered in their baccalaureate social work education, they are not accepted into the two-year MSW program. Exceptions to this policy are rare and may be considered through an appeal to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Please contact the GSSW Office of Admission for additional information.

    Summer quarter

The first quarter of the advanced standing program consists of course work only. You will take two required courses during this quarter, a multicultural social work practice class and a seminar that will help you integrate your BSW education with your social work experience and plan your continuing professional development. You’ll also take two elective courses of your choice.

Your summer quarter course work will be as follows:

    • Power, Privilege and Oppression from a Critical Multicultural Perspective (3 quarter hours)
    • Advanced Standing Seminar (3 quarter hours)
    • Concentration Course Work (required/electives, 6 quarter hours)

    (Total of 12 quarter hours)

In addition to the two required courses above, all advanced standing students are also required to take Evidence for Practice (3 quarters hours). Students have the option of taking this course in summer or fall quarter. This course is pre-requisite to the concentration research sequence.

    Concentration curriculum

In fall quarter, you’ll begin your concentration curriculum in the same manner as two-year MSW students, advancing in professional knowledge and skill by specializing in one of eight social work concentrations:

    • child welfare
    • children and youth: risks and healthy development
    • family systems practice
    • aging services and policy
    • health and wellness
    • mental health
    • organizational leadership and policy practice
    • sustainable development and global practice

    Education and Internet Use

    50.5%
The percentage of Asians, age 25 and older, who have a bachelor’s degree or higher level of education. Asians have the highest proportion of college graduates of any race or ethnic group in the country and this compares with 28 percent for all Americans 25 and older.

    21.2%
The percentage of Asians, age 25 and older, who have an advanced degree (e.g. Master’s, Ph.D. M.D. or J.D.). This compares with 10 percent for all Americans 25 and older. However, different Asian ethnic groups have different educational attainment levels — 68 percent of Asian Indians, age 25 and older, had a bachelor’s degree or more education and 37 percent had a graduate or professional degree; the corresponding numbers for Vietnamese-Americans were 24 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

    80%

    Permanent Disability Benefits

Permanent Disability benefits are designed to help replace wages lost if an injury leaves an employee with a permanent impairment and the employee is unable or less able to work after the injury. Permanent Disability Benefits are paid by the insurance company or self-insured employer and are to replace lost wages. These benefits are not paid by the Tennessee Bureau of Workers Compensation.

    Total vs. Partial

There are two types of Permanent Disability Benefits: Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) Benefits and Permanent Total Disability (PTD) Benefits.

    Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) Benefits

Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) Benefits may apply if an employee retains a permanent disability because of a work-related injury and is able to return to a job in the open market. The benefit is 66 and two-thirds percent (66 2/3%) of the injured employee s average weekly wage, subject to limitations depending upon the body part affected by the work-related injury (for injuries before July 1, 2014), and the employee s ability to return to his/her prior employment.

    Permanent Total Disability (PTD) Benefits

Permanent Total Disability (PTD Benefits may apply if an employee is unable to return to any job in the open market because of a permanent disability due to a work-related injury. This benefit continues until he/she becomes eligible for old-age retirement under the social security law.

When are Permanent Disability Benefits due?

When the injury has healed and maximum medical improvement (MMI) is reached, the injured employee will likely be released from the treating physician s care. This could occur even though the injured employee may be referred for other additional services such as physical therapy, pain management and possibly work hardening sessions. When released, the authorized treating physician may assign a permanent impairment rating based on the applicable edition of the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment . The impairment rating, combined with vocational factors, may result in a permanent disability award.

How is the amount of Permanent Disability Benefits determined?

The impairment rating described above, combined with vocational factors, may result in a permanent disability award. Workers Compensation Specialists with the Bureau conduct informal Benefit Review Conferences, at no cost to the parties, to assist in reaching a final determination of that award. Learn more about the Settlement Process of the Benefit Review Program .

After the injured employee has reached MMI and is ready to mediate the settlement of his/her workplace injury, a party involved in the claim will need to complete and submit:

    • For injuries occurring on/after July 1, 2014, a Petition for Benefits Determination to request the services of a Mediating Specialist within the Bureau.
    • For injuries occurring prior to July 1, 2014, a Request for Assistance/Mediation Form C-40 to request the services of a Mediating Specialist within the Bureau.

    Negotiating Permanent Disability Cases

Parties are encouraged to try to settle these issues through negotiations and are allowed to attempt to resolve the issues. So, while private negotiations are allowed, no party can file suit, in any court, to resolve issues regarding permanent disability benefits and/or future medical benefits prior to exhausting the Benefit Review Process . This requires the full and active participation of the parties in a mediation conducted by a Mediating Specialist within the Bureau. The Mediating Specialist will issue the paperwork indicating that the process has been exhausted when he/she is convinced that continued mediations are not likely to result in an agreement and an impasse has been reached.

    Medical Biller Jobs

    Medical Biller Job Overview

Medical billing specialists play a crucial role in the healthcare industry. They are responsible for taking the data provided by medical coders and using it to submit insurance claims. Medical billers must work with coded data, so a background in medical coding can be beneficial. Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and other insurance guidelines is crucial.

Most medical billers are employed by hospitals, doctors’ offices, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and even specialized insurance companies. On any given day, they will work directly with the healthcare provider, insurance company, and patient to process a claim and receive payment. They review and appeal denied and unpaid claims, verify a patient’s insurance coverage information, answer billing questions, manage accounts receivable reports, and handle collections when accounts remain unpaid.

    Medical Biller Job Education Requirements

To become a medical billing specialist, an associate’s degree in a relevant field such as accounting, healthcare administration, or business administration is usually required. A medical billing and coding certificate is ideal since coursework prepares you for the occupation better than any other type of degree. Many medical billers started out as medical coders. CNAs, or health care specialists before receiving the certification and training necessary to become billing specialists.

    Medical Biller Job Market

The field that includes medical billers, which is designated as medical records and health information technicians, is expected to increase by 21 percent through 2020. This is a faster-than-average growth rate, so medical billing specialists are in demand. This is likely due to the nation’s aging population and the continued need for insurance professionals in the healthcare industry.

    Medical Biller Salary Information

Salaries for medical billers vary widely by geographical location, but the average hourly wage is $14. Those starting out can expect to earn around $23,000 a year, with experienced professionals bringing in about $43,000 annually.

    What is a Reverse Mortgage?

A Reverse Mortgage is a type of home loan that lets you convert a portion of the equity in your home without having to sell the home, give up title or take on a new monthly mortgage payment. It is also known as a HECM. The money you receive can be used for any purpose you choose. The program has been around for 27 years and is insured by the Federal Housing Administration.

Based on the final totals in the 2015 calendar year, 945,287 Senior Citizens have benefited from the FHA insured Reverse Mortgage since the program began in 1989. Although the program has been in existence for twenty seven ears, almost one third of the loans been done in just the past five years. That total is 293,058 Reverse Mortgages. How Do Construction Loans Work? #cheap #payday #loans

    #construction loan calculator
    #

    Construction Loans

    What are Construction Loans?

Construction loans are short-term loans that enable the construction of a project to completion. Upon completion, the permanent loan or end financing will be used to pay off the interim construction loan. The term on a construction loan is short duration of 6 months to a year.

    How are Construction Loans Paid?

Typically construction loans use a draw system of payouts instead of a one-time lump sum payout of a standard mortgage loan. A draw system means the lender will pay out the proceeds of the construction loan at specified intervals (usually monthly) after they have verified the amount of work that has been completed on the project. The lender will usually send out their own inspector or use a third-party appraiser to verify the percentage of the project completed and appropriate payout.

The borrower pays interest only and only on the amount drawn each month. These funds are used to pay for the work performed by the subcontractors and the materials that were used.

    Types of Construction Loans

There are different types of construction loans based on the specific purpose and the person who takes out the loan. Normally, construction loans are given to general contractors who are building homes for clients (pre-sold homes) or building a home to be sold upon completion (speculative home). On a pre-sold home the lender will loan up to 80 percent of the value or purchase price of the home.

Speculative home loans are typically restricted to no more than 70 to 75 percent of an appraised value based on the plans and specifications provided by the builder. The big advantage for the consumer with a speculative loan is that the general contractor is responsible for all costs associated with the construction loans, including any additional interest that would be charged for construction delays.

Construction loans may also be available to individuals who may already own their own lot and can provide evidence that they either have a general contractor or can prove they have sufficient knowledge and expertise to act as a general contractor. These loans would also be limited to 80 percent loan-to-value.

If the lot is already owned by the borrower, its value can act as all or part of the borrower s equity. A construction-permanent loan may also be an option to the borrower. The advantage of this one-time close (instead of the two closings normally required) is one set of closing costs and potentially an easy way to lock in the interest rate for the time taken to complete the project.

    Reviews for Assistant School:

“What an amazing school and I had a great experience. Fullerton Dental Assisting School helped me get a job before I was done with my schooling. My favorite aspect was doing half the classes up-front learning the core information and then going into the back and doing the hands-on work.”
    – Savannah S. from Fullerton CA

“I loved going to this dental assistant school. I started working in a dentist office during my externship. I was able to come into class and get the extra help I needed. Small classes meant we got plenty of one-on-one time. Ms. Abby and Noha were always ready and willing to answer any questions we had.”
    – Breanna H. from Chino CA.

“Classes were short and straight to the point – which made getting the dental assistant certificate easy . My experience during the class was a pleasant one. What I really enjoyed was that since our class was small it made it more like a one-on-one with the instructor. It felt like we became a small family.”
    – Tania B. from Costa Mesa CA

“I enjoyed interning in this office. It is so professional and the staff is calm and patient. I really learned a lot from them. The biggest benefit is that I was hired by them. Working at their office has been one of the best experiences.”
    – Ariel G. from Whittier, CA

“For all out there that want to better themselves this program was a blessing to me I loved the teachers and all the experience that I obtained from the externship. I was able to find a job right after I graduated . Most of all I am loving what I do and I feel great about myself.”
    – Ana A. from Fontana, CA

Collecting on Your Ex s Social Security: When and How?

BY Paul Solman October 21, 2013 at 11:04 AM EDT

    By Larry Kotlikoff

Even if you ve been divorced for years, you may still benefit from a divorcée spousal benefit from your ex s work record. Social Security expert Larry Kotlikoff explains when and how to cross that path. Photo courtesy of Flickr user Luis Vest .

Larry Kotlikoff s Social Security original 34 secrets . his additional secrets . his Social Security mistakes and his Social Security gotchas have prompted so many of you to write in that we now feature Ask Larry every Monday. We are determined to continue it until the queries stop or we run through the particular problems of all 78 million Baby Boomers, whichever comes first. Kotlikoff s state-of-the-art retirement software is available here . for free, in its basic version

Liz Dallas, Texas: I m 62 and still working. I was divorced at 45 after 26 years of marriage. How do I determine if I m better off filing under my ex s Social Security or my own?

Larry Kotlikoff: Your ex has to be over 62 before you can file to receive a divorcée benefit. If your ex is deceased, you can file to receive a survivor benefit on his record, provided you didn t remarry before age 60.

I ll assume your ex is over 62. Here s the rub. If you file before full retirement age for a retirement benefit, you ll be deemed to be filing for a divorcée spousal benefit. And if you file for a divorcée spousal benefit before full retirement age, you ll be deemed to be applying for a retirement benefit. In other words, Social Security deems you to be filing for both when you file for one before full retirement age.

And once you have filed or have been deemed to have filed for a retirement benefit, your spousal benefit becomes your excess spousal benefit. This may be calculated as zero, as described in many other columns (see the answer to Jeff in last week s column ). If it s not zero, it may be very small. Plus, taking it before full retirement age will lead it to be reduced. Your retirement benefit will also be reduced because you are taking it or being forced to take it early.

    MORE FROM LARRY KOTLIKOFF:

So, let s not have you file now. Instead, how about you wait until full retirement age 66 in your case and apply just for your spousal benefit and wait until 70 to apply for your retirement benefit. Your spousal benefit under this strategy will be your full spousal benefit, equal to half of your ex s full retirement benefit.

If you were desperate for income, I d temper my suggestion. But you say you are still working. Paul is past your age. He s still working and doing a damn fine job of it. Neither he nor I think anyone should stop working if they like their jobs and are up to it physically. Life can be too long to retire!

Janet B. Hemet, Calif.: I ve been trying to figure out when or if I should take benefits based on my ex-husband s account. He is nine years older than I am, and we were married for 30 years. I have worked my whole life.

Larry Kotlikoff: If you play your cards right you can do both. The trick is to wait until full retirement age, apply just for your divorcée spousal benefit, and then at 70 apply for your own retirement benefit. If you have a pretty high maximum age of life, waiting to collect your retirement benefit will provide you higher lifetime benefits because Social Security strongly rewards waiting, up to a point, to collect benefits. But you can t engage in this strategy if you apply for either a spousal or retirement benefit before full retirement age (see the answer to Liz s question above).

Helen Eureka, Calif.: I am twice divorced and began taking my own Social Security benefit at age 66. My first husband died last year. We were married over 10 years. Am I eligible to collect his Social Security benefit?

Larry Kotlikoff: You may or may not receive a higher benefit from your ex s work record. But yes, you are eligible to collect on it. You ll receive the larger of either your survivor or retirement benefit. If you are under 70, you can suspend your own retirement benefit until age 70 and just take, between now and age 70, your excess survivor benefit, which will equal the difference between your survivor benefit and your own retirement benefit inclusive of any delayed retirement credits you get from having waited to collect. And then at 70, you could restart your retirement benefit at a higher value thanks to the application of the delayed retirement credits. But check with the Social Security Administration to see if collecting on your ex s record would result in a higher benefit.

Brian Ivey Lakewood, Wash.: I was married to a woman from Korea for 10 years. In that time she became a U.S. citizen and worked for several years. We divorced and she returned to Korea to live in 1988. I have never re-married. My question is, can I collect a portion of the Social Security benefits she earned while working in the United States?

Larry Kotlikoff: Yes, from what I understand you can collect divorcée spousal benefits and, if she dies before you, survivor benefits based on her earnings record. But this presupposes she is eligible to collect a retirement benefit. For this, she needs 40 quarters of covered employment. Also, you must both be at least age 62 for either of you to collect spousal benefits on the other s work record.

Mike Hawthorne: I ve been retired (industrial disability) since 2001 and have been collecting my pension since. I was told that I should collect Social Security as well. What are my option?

Larry Kotlikoff: If you are able to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, do so. You ll collect them through full retirement age and then automatically convert to your full retirement benefit unless you follow the strategy outlined in this article .

Jane Grand Rapids, Mich.: My husband passed away at age 62 and I am 58. I can collect survivor benefits at age 60. Will this reduce the amount of retirement benefits I receive? Or do I keep receiving survivor benefits instead?

Larry Kotlikoff: Unlike taking spousal benefits early, which forces you to take your retirement benefit early, taking your survivor benefit early (and age 60 is the earliest you can do that), doesn t force you to take your own retirement benefit at the same time. You can, for example, take reduced survivor benefits starting at 60, and at 70 apply for your own retirement benefit. At that point, your Social Security check (apart from deductions for Medicare Part B premiums) will equal the larger of either your own retirement benefit or your survivor benefit. Your retirement benefit will be 76 percent higher after inflation than were you to start it at age 62.

But this may not be your best strategy. It may be better to take your reduced retirement benefit at 62 and take your unreduced survivor benefit at 66. Software can tell you what s best.

    ADN VS BSN

Dec 23, ’14 by akulahawkRN. ASN, RN, EMT-P Pro

I’ll put it to you like this: ADN is not a complete waste of time. The core nursing stuff is identical in both ADN and BSN programs. The BSN program adds a few things extra that won’t be provided to the ADN because the BSN, by definition, is a 4 year degree. For the ADN that already has a Bachelor’s of Science in a healthcare field other than Nursing, there are essentially two areas that still are specific to the BSN: Nursing Advocacy and Community Health/Public Health Nursing.

That being said, because of various conditions at play now, employers have the ability to choose the kind of employee they want to hire and right now, many of them are preferring to hire BSN grads but will hire an ADN grad if there are no BSN grads that are suitable (does happen). Back when I started the process some 7 years ago, I knew that the BSN would be the way to go but being that I already had a Bachelor’s, I could either attend a very expensive program or not attend a BSN program at all because the local public university was closed to all second Bachelors students (like me). My only option was to attend an ADN program and do an RN-BSN upgrade another way, which is still my plan. I will earn a BSN within the next 2 years, if not sooner.

Thusly I give this advice: Getting licensed is better than still waiting to enter a program. To that end, apply everywhere you are qualified to apply to. Have an eye toward BSN. If you’re selected for an ADN program and you’re still qualified to attend a BSN program, apply to the BSN program until the start date for that is later than the start of your 3rd semester of an ADN program. The reason for that is simple: after that, it will take the same amount of time to do the traditional BSN as it would take to complete the ADN program and do an RN-BSN program. That route may also be cheaper.

Of my own employment opportunities, I am only shut out of one employer right now because I don’t have a BSN. The other hospitals prefer the BSN but they will just as readily hire ADN RN’s. With those employers, the BSN may get you into the interview room faster.

An ASN is not a waste of time because one can use that degree to get an RN license and work somewhere. The BSN degree is more convenient in the long run because it will lead to an RN license and more job opportunities.

    Online Teaching Jobs

    Overview of Online Teaching

With online programs, stay-at-home parents can prepare for future careers, new students can work to earn money to pay for their tuition and those who lack mobility can receive an education with minimal discomfort. Online teachers make these things possible.

There are different levels of Online Teaching jobs. Many companies employ online tutors to help students from grade school to college understand their school assignments and study for their tests. Tutors are responsible for finding strategies to help improve student understanding, maintaining a regular schedule and communicating with families and administrators. Both colleges and high schools employ online instructors as well. Online high school teachers and professors are tasked with learning or designing curriculum, developing lesson plans, accommodating students with varied learning abilities, tracking and improving student attendance and progress, administering and grading exams, providing academic advice and communicating with students, parents and administrators. Another quickly growing teaching position is the role of a Tes Teacher .

Online Teaching Jobs Education and Requirements

An online tutor must possess at least a bachelor’s degree. Tutors are also often asked to pass certain exams to show that they are competent in the subjects they are assigned to tutor. Online high school teachers must have at least a bachelor’s degree and a valid teaching credential. Most schools prefer applicants to possess a master’s degree. Online professors are typically required to possess a doctorate degree; however, some colleges will hire adjunct professors with master’s degrees. Most tutors and teachers must be willing to provide references and submit to a background check.

Online Teaching Job Outlook and Salaries

Most reports do not make a distinction between online and offline teachers in employment outlook and salary data; however, the median annual salary for high school teachers is just over $55,000. Statistics indicate that the growth of these positions is slower than average at just 6 percent. The median salary for post-secondary instructors is almost $69,000 a year. Growth is faster for these positions at 19 percent.

    Electrician Jobs

    Electrician Job Overview

More than 519,000 people across the country work as electricians. The duties of this important job include working with wiring and electrical systems to make sure they are working safely and properly. The job also includes working on public projects, such as installing and repairing streetlights, fixing industrial intercom systems and working on commercial buildings to make sure the electrical work is done according to local and national safety codes.

Electricians can specialize in a specific area, such as working with motion picture or television studios to provide the lighting, or working in industrial settings. Those with experience in management can also work as electrical contractors, who oversee electricians on the construction job site. Electrical engineers design electrical layouts for buildings.

    Electrician Job Education Requirements

An electrician at journeyman status must complete a program that lasts about four years. This program will include detailed safety information about working with live wires, along with training on how to correctly wire a variety of different fixtures and equipment. The programs usually require at least a high school diploma, and entrants must be at least 18 years old. Technical schools may also offer electrician programs, although these don’t include an apprenticeship, so they won’t provide as much hands-on training.

    Electrician Job Market

According to statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, electrician jobs will grow by almost 20 percent by 2022, which will add more than 224,000 openings. Since there are many buildings around the country that have outdated electrical systems and wiring, these will need rewiring services to meet new codes. As energy sources continue to transition, electricians play a vital role in transferring the energy to a switch and plug that people can use in their homes and businesses. Electricians may also want to go into more specialized and related roles like cable supervisor .

    Electrician Job Salary Information

The median wage for electricians in the United States was $49,480 in 2012. Those in the highest range of pay made around $80,000 per year, while the lower end was closer to $30,000. Those who earn the most income usually work for motion picture studios and natural gas plants, where the work requires more physical labor and longer hours. Electricians working in bigger cities earn higher wages, as well those working in remote areas, such as cities in Alaska.

Those who specialize in a specific area of electrical work can usually earn more money as well. Electrician apprentices usually earn about 30-50 percent less than a fully trained electrician.

Unsecured Loans for People with Bad Credit can Work to Your Advantage

You’ll find articles about unsecured payday loans everywhere on the Internet. You always hear about how these loans put consumers and borrowers at great risk. Truth is, high interest are not new. They have been around for ages. There might be some difference here and there, but the basic concept remains the same. This article from Bloomberg Businessweek explains why student loans (most of which is unsecured) has such high interest rates. If the lender is taking extreme risks to provide funds, the interest rates will be high as well.

Jeannie has a problem with this setup. Let’s listen to her story:

“I’ve tried hiding this fact from my friends because I’m really embarrassed that my credit rating is so low! I’ve tried my best to consolidate my credit card debt, remortgage my home, and pay what I need to pay on time. Obviously, this leaves me very little room to play with. Unless I win the lottery, I can’t see myself out of this situation for the next five years. I know they say it takes a long time to rebuild my credit score but sometimes I really need to take out a loan for a very valid reason. Like when the heavy snowfall caused my garage roof to cave in. The problem is, I really don’t want to use any of the properties I have as collateral. I’ve already compromised my situation too much! I’ve heard about unsecured loans for people with bad credit. Are these the type of loans I’m looking for?”

The answer is yes, Jeannie, but you need to be aware of some issues surrounding unsecured online loans before you even think of applying for one.

    High interest rates

Unsecured loans were very difficult to obtain, even for people with credit. Unsecured loans were, in principle, based on good faith. There was always the chance that the lenders wouldn’t get their money back from such loans. However some companies have done the math and figured out a way to hedge for this risk. One of the ways they did this is by pegging extremely high interest rates. In the law of averages, they figured they will come out on the winning side after subtracting bad loans from the good. The downside was these high interest rates resulted in fewer applications for unsecured loans for people with bad credit.

    Online lenders to the rescue

Now, certain companies are offering unsecured loans for people with bad credit with interest rates kept to the minimum level possible. They offer these to customers without the need for personal properties as collateral or any security deposits.

These unsecured loans for people with bad credit provided by online lenders have advantages that a local brick and mortar lenders cannot offer, primarily in the speed with which applications are completed and processed. These companies have developed lower interest rates programs specifically tailored for individuals who don t have a good credit score.

These companies have made the service of providing unsecured loans for people with bad credit available because they know that this sector was disadvantaged by the recent economic downturn (they are popular even in the UK and Canada). Unsecured loans might be the way for them to rebuild their credit rating and finally escape the vicious cycle of debt.

Many of the current problems with unsecured loans are connected to student loans. The article “Student Loans: Grief and Relief ” contains a wealth of useful links to resources on the topic.

    Keep your credit rating healthy

To avoid suffering the same fate as Jeannie, do your best to keep your credit rating healthy. Keep a close eye on it, and check it regularly because you might think you still have a good credit rating and  can get unsecured loans more easily when in fact you’ve fallen behind.

It is very difficult for a consumer to know in advance whether they have a high enough credit score to be accepted for a loan with a particular lender. This is due to the complexity and structure of credit scoring, which differs from one lender to another. Lenders do not have to reveal their credit score, nor reveal the minimum credit score required for the applicant to be accepted. It is impossible for the consumer to know in advance if they will pass a lender s credit scoring requirements.

Read FICO’s primer on credit scores to be aware of the factors involved in the calculation of your credit rating. Also ensure that you’re aware of your rights and what you need to do when you suspect you’ve been scammed by reading the resources available at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau website.

    Courses

Fall 2012: Pedagogy in Urban Classrooms

This course examines the relationships between political, economic, cultural, and educational contexts and what occurs in urban schools and classrooms. The course defines pedagogy broadly, as consequences of sets of relationships among factors both external and internal to schools. Students will assess the effects of political and economic policies and practices on the shape and processes of schooling. Students will also consider the contribution of urban communities and cultures to what occurs in schools and classrooms. We will discuss what is (the problems and injustices) as well as what could be – versions of what is possible and just.

Spring 2012: Critical Social Theory in Educational Studies

This course familiarizes students with critical social theorists often utilized by scholars in the academy. Goals of the course are to consider the following kinds of questions about critical social theory: What is it? How can it be useful? For example, how are power and resistance theorized, and how can we study and utilize such constructs in educational research? How can we use theory to organize daily struggles against unjust power in education and other parts of society?

    DIY Alarm System Battery Replacement

How to Test an Alarm System Battery

Open the alarm system panel box, and locate the battery. Most panels just have the battery sitting on the bottom of the “can”. If there is a date written on the battery, and it’s at least 5 years old, replace the battery.

If there’s no date written on it, continue with testing. Position the alarm system battery so that you have access to the terminals on the top. This usually means laying the battery on its side.

Disconnect AC power by unplugging the low voltage transformer, if possible. If you can’t easily reach the transformer (or if you don’t know where it is), you’ll need to disconnect one of its wires inside the panel.

The circuit board will have at least one row of screw terminals. At one end or the other, look for 2 screws marked “AC”, “Trans(former)”, or “XFMR”. Loosen one of these 2 screws, and pull the wire free. Be careful not to let the wire touch anything, or you could fry the transformer. By the way, don’t be concerned about electric shock, since the transformer only puts out around 18 volts.

Set your DMM to measure “DC Volts”, within the range of 12 volts. Touch a probe to each battery terminal, and check the voltage reading. You’ll notice the voltage dropping, hopefully not too rapidly. A good battery will drop steadily for a few minutes, then level off and even begin climbing slightly. If yours behaves this way, and stays above 12 volts, the battery is good.

If after 5 minutes or so the voltage continues to drop, or if it ever goes below 12 volts, the battery should be replaced.

How to Replace an Alarm System Battery

If the battery fails the test, reconnect transformer power so the system will run when you take out the battery.

Remove the connectors from the battery terminals. They are the quick-connect spade type, and simply pull-off and push-on. Take the unit to a battery store, where they will sell you a replacement battery of the same size.

Note that the new alarm system battery must have the same rated voltage as the old one. The amp-hour rating should be the same or higher.

Label the new battery with the date, for future reference. If you use a black Sharpie, it won’t show up well if the battery casing is also black. In that case, add a short piece of masking tape, and write on that.

Install the new alarm system battery, making very sure to match the positive and negative terminals to the correct wires: red to red, and black to black.

Using your multimeter, check the battery voltage. It should climb slowly but steadily, as the alarm panel’s charging circuit does its job. If the voltage doesn’t increase after 5 minutes or so, check the AC power connections again. If they are good, you may have a blown transformer.

Allow 24 hours or so for the replacement alarm battery to reach full charge. During this time, the keypad may still show a trouble light or low battery indication, but this will reset when the battery reaches a full charge.

To check the plug-in transformer, set your DMM to the “AC Volts” position, and touch a probe to each AC terminal on the circuit board. You should see 16-18 volts or so. If not, you’ll need a new transformer. These are available online, or you can get a comparable unit from Radio Shack or other electronics supplier.

Replacement is done by simply swapping out the old transformer for the new one. Unlike the battery, AC connections aren’t polarity-sensitive. There is no “positive” or “negative”, as the leads are interchangeable.

    Social Work Degrees

Social Work is a popular major among students who want to help others. Countless people today depend on aid and advice from Social Workers, and the field’s best practitioners are skilled professionals who connect clients with vital resources and support.

Despite the field’s warm overtones, Social Work is not a career for the faint of heart. Social Workers must be strong enough to manage clients who are difficult or combative and to advocate for clients who face extremely challenging circumstances. However, the emotional rewards that come with helping clients overcome these hurdles can also be significant, and this is what keeps Social Workers engaged in their field.

Read on to learn more about what it takes to pursue Social Work as a major and as a career.

    What is Social Work?

Social Work is a profession dedicated to helping people in need. Social Workers serve clients who need help managing various aspects of their lives. Social Workers help these clients find resources to meet basic needs and assist them in forging better, more secure lives.

Social Work appeared as a field in the late 19 th century and grew throughout the 20 th as governments and private organizations came to understand the value of the profession. Today, Social Workers are found in numerous professional environments, in settings ranging from social service agencies to hospitals to public schools.

Social Workers may tackle tasks such as:

    • Helping clients find and apply for public assistance programs
    • Assisting families in which a member is too aged or otherwise incapacitated to care for himself
    • Helping a child or teen find refuge from an abusive home

While Social Workers never know for certain what a given day’s work will bring, they always stand prepared to empower clients with the best resources and guidance they can provide.

What can I do with a Social Work degree?

Undergraduate Social Work degree programs are designed to produce graduates who are prepared to sit for a Social Work licensing exam. Most states require Social Work graduates to secure licensure before they can apply for positions as a Social Worker.

Once licensed, Social Workers may choose from a variety of professional environments and roles. Below are pay and projected growth details on some of the settings Social Workers may choose, according to 2014-2015 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data:

Child, Family and School Social Workers

    • $42,350 median annual salary
    • 305,200 jobs in the U.S.
    • 6 percent projected growth in positions, 2014 to 2024

    Health Care Social Workers

    • $52,380 median annual salary
    • 160,100 jobs in the U.S.
    • 19 percent projected growth in positions, 2014 to 2024

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers

    • $42,170 median annual salary
    • 117,800 jobs in the U.S.
    • 19 percent projected growth in positions, 2014 to 2024

    Social Workers, All Other

    • $58,560 median annual salary
    • 66,400 jobs in the U.S.
    • 4 percent projected growth in positions, 2014 to 2024

Social Workers don’t have to stop at an undergraduate degree. They may also seek a Master of Social Work degree, which can open new doors within the field. Students who complete their Master of Social Work and gain the requisite number of clinical hours required in their state (see the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Work for details on Nevada’s requirements) can pursue becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Licensed Clinical Social Workers can practice in ways regular Social Workers cannot, such as hosting individual or group therapy sessions within a private practice.

To learn more about the professional prospects within Social Work, see the University’s Social Work Careers page.

    How do I get started?

The School of Social Work at the University of Nevada, Reno offers degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level:

    Causes of Throbbing Ear Pain

by VAISHALI MEHTA Last Updated: Sep 17, 2011

Vaishali Mehta is a doctor by profession and has a master’s degree in otolaryngology from India. She has clinical experience in the field of ENT. She has a passion for medical writing and has written stacks of research articles. She likes to write for health, fitness and nutrition, and otolaryngology-related topics.

The causes of earache are many. Photo Credit Jupiterimages/Creatas/Getty Images

Otalgia is the medical terminology for ear pain. Ear pain can arise due to various causes. It is commonly due to local causes that arise from the ear or referred pain to the ear due to problems in nearby areas.

    Local Causes

Diseases of the outer ear like a boil, an accumulation of wax, any foreign object stuck in the ear, otitis externa, trauma to the ear canal resulting from ear buds or matchsticks and cancer of the ear can cause ear pain.

Infections of the middle ear are a common cause of earache. Most children with ear pain usually have a middle ear infection. This results in fluid and pressure buildup in the middle ear and throbbing ear pain that generally worsens at night.

Pressure changes or altitude changes while flying can also result in ear pain.

Menieres disease, which is a disorder of the inner ear due to fluid imbalance, can present with ear pain, ear fullness, dizziness and sounds in the ears.

    Referred Ear Pain

The ear has a rich nerve supply from multiple nerves. The nerves that supply the ear also supply the teeth, tonsils, jaw and neck. Hence problems in these head and neck areas can cause ear pain without any problems in the ear.

Dental disorders are the most common cause of referred pain to the ear. Recent dental work, infection in the tooth, an impacted tooth, an abscess and ill-fitting dentures can all cause ear pain.

The temporomandibular joint is near the ear, and degenerative disease and arthritis of the jaw can lead to earache.

Diseases of the neck like degenerative disease of the cervical spine can result in earache.

Tonsillitis, ulcers in the tongue and sore throat are other causes of earache.

Sometimes a ear pain is a symptom of underlying sinister causes like a cancer of the tongue, cancer of the tonsil or voice box.

    Underlying Causes

Based on the history of the pain and examination of the ear, a doctor can establish the cause of the pain.

Smokers and alcoholics who have complaints of unexplained prolonged ear pain when the ear appears normal should undergo further investigations. Cancer of the throat and tongue should be ruled out as it may cause referred pain to the ear.

With complaints of earache, you should get prompt medical advice and treatment of the underlying cause.

Laser hair restoration spurred a heated debate between conventional hair restoration surgeons and providers of laser therapies. By the time the “New York Times” reported on a nonsurgical way to restore thinning follicles called “photobiostimulation” in June 2005, laser hair restoration had already been featured on primetime news shows like “Dateline NBC.” Despite media attention and heavy marketing of in-office treatments and laser hair combs for at-home use, medical experts and professional hair loss organizations are skeptical about the efficacy of laser hair restoration.

    Process

When interviewed by the “New York Times,” dermatologist Sandy Tsao, an instructor at Harvard Medical School, expressed skepticism. Lasers have been primarily used to remove hair–not encourage regrowth. However, Tsao indicated that when lasers were used to remove hair at inadequate energy, hair growth was noted. “So now the theory is, if you can stimulate the follicle to reactivate hair cells, you can get new hair growth,” Tsao says. Dr. Alan Bauman, who was featured on “Dateline,” calls laser hair restoration “low laser light therapy,” or LLLT. Bauman explains that the laser light is absorbed by cells, which in turn repairs them and encourages regrowth. According to the “New York Times” article, laser hair restoration won’t bring dead hair follicles back to life; however, it will stimulate follicles in the state of decline and make existing hair thicker and fuller.

    In-Office Treatment

Laser hair restoration can be provided by doctors such as Bauman who specialize in the therapy, or at salons. According to Dr. Alan Feller, a member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons, in-office “hood” treatments provided by a medical professional can cost $4,000 each year. The “New York Times” article indicate that salon treatments that include two weekly sessions for three to six months range between $2,800 and $3,500.

    Consumer Devices

Laser hair restoration can also done in the privacy of your home. One product, the HairMax LaserComb, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for safety but not efficacy, says the “New York Times.” The device, which is cleared by the FDA for men with mild degrees of androgenetic alopecia, or pattern baldness, is manufactured by Lexington International and sells for around $500 in August 2010. The laser comb is used three times each week in self-treatments that take 15 minutes.

    What Experts Say

Many doctors remain unconvinced the laser hair restoration is effective. Tsao say describes this method of treating thinning hair as “a huge leap of faith. In those cases where it happens, it’s a random hit.” Feller, a more proactive critic of laser hair restoration, states that low-intensity laser beams, the same type used in grocery store scanners and key chains, has a lack of satisfied customers.

Feller points to the heavy marketing of such services and devices, as well media attention, as two ingredients to laser hair restoration’s financial success. He goes onto state that some companies use deceptive “before and after” photos in which a patient’s hair is damp in the “before” photo, making it look thinner, whereas, the “after” photo depicts the customer with dry hair, which looks fuller. Feller states that such obvious attempts to deceive the public “should raise a major red flag against. the industry.”

    Other Options

There’s no way to cure baldness, be it permanent pattern baldness or temporary hair loss, says the Mayo Clinic. Less expensive options for men and women include a topical treatment called minoxidil, which is approved by the FDA. Men with pattern baldness may be suitable candidates for an oral prescription medication called finasteride. Both of these options require ongoing use of the medication. Surgical hair transplant techniques offer a longer-term solution to pattern baldness, however, the Mayo Clinic indicates that as baldness progresses, additional transplantation may be required. Talk to your physician about the medical treatment that’s most appropriate for your situation.

    Federal Loans

What are federal college loans, and how do you get them?

If a cornerstone of the American dream has long been the ability to attend college even for those of modest means, federally guaranteed student loans are the main vehicle for accomplishing the task.

But how do you go about getting federal college loans?

Securing a federal loan begins with filing the FAFSA form, short for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the nationally standardized method for assessing a family’s finances and thus their ability to shoulder part of the costs of their children’s post-secondary education. Since it’s good to file the FAFSA as soon after the first of the year as possible, you may want to file your tax returns early, since that tax information is a key part of what goes into the application.

Within about a month of submitting your FAFSA to the U.S. Department of Education (which you can do online, at www.fafsa.ed.gov. your family and the schools to which your child has applied will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). If you qualify for federal loans, these will be listed. It includes your expected family contribution, or EFC, which in turn becomes the basis for all loans, insofar as these loans must cover the difference between your EFC and what you can actually afford to pay out of pocket.

There are two main types of federal student loans, subsidized loans (which are need-based, and for which the government pays the interest while a student is in school and during any grace periods or deferments which may follow) and unsubsidized loans, which are not need-based, on which the borrower pays all interest. But all are administered and channeled through the school your child will ultimately be attending.

After grants, scholarships and federal aid have been maximized, a private student loan is a good option to fill any remaining financing gap. Put Your Bachelor s in Healthcare Administration to Work

Peter Vogt / MonsterTRAK Career Coach

When you watch popular hospital TV shows like Grey s Anatomy or House, all you ever see are the people in clinical jobs doctors, nurses and the like. It s as though the complex healthcare organizations these people work for run themselves.

Not true, of course. Behind the scenes, and in a variety of settings, not just hospitals, you ll find dedicated people who don t see patients but are nonetheless essential to the success of the organization and the healthcare field as a whole. You can become one of these professionals by pursuing a bachelor s degree in healthcare administration (also known as health administration, healthcare management or health services administration, depending on the particular school and program).

    Health Administrator
    Career Articles

Know in advance that a bachelor s degree in healthcare administration will take you only so far. It is well-recognized that if someone wants to get into the upper levels of management in a hospital or larger organization, that person will need a master s degree, says Carla Wiggins, PhD, chair of the healthcare administration program at Idaho State University.

Internship Can Jump-Start Your Job Search

But a bachelor s degree can open plenty of entry-level healthcare doors on its own, especially if it comes from a college or university program certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration ( AUPHA ). Why? Because AUPHA -certified programs require their students to complete an extensive internship in a healthcare setting critical experience that often leads directly to a job after graduation.

Some non- AUPHA and AUPHA -noncertified programs…don t require [an internship], which is a big mistake, I think, Wiggins says.

Sharon Buchbinder, RN, PhD, coordinator of the healthcare management program at Towson University adds: The internship enables students to get a head start on the real world.

    Who Will Hire You?

If you re wondering what exactly you will be able to do with a bachelor s in healthcare administration and where, it s helpful to think of your options in terms of the four employment sectors specified by the AUPHA :

Healthcare Providers. Hospitals, group physician practices, clinics, nursing homes, outpatient care centers, mental health organizations and rehabilitation centers.

Healthcare Suppliers. Healthcare management companies, pharmaceutical firms, biotechnology companies and educational organizations.

Insurance Organizations. Health maintenance organizations, preferred-provider organizations, state-administered health insurance programs and private insurance companies that cater to the healthcare market.

Policy Organizations. State public health agencies, nonprofit organizations with health-oriented missions and the like.

CBS2 Exclusive: Yonkers Job Fliers Target Teens To Videotape Man With Their Cellphones

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) The school year is winding down, and teens are out looking for summer jobs – but ad being posted in Westchester County is causing alarm.

CBS2’s Brian Conybeare had a warning for students and parents Wednesday night in an exclusive story.

Right outside Roosevelt High School on Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers is a flier taped to a light pole offering a “job available for young adults and teens.” Luis Nunez, 22, could not believe what he was reading.

I am a licensed exercise fitness instructor. I will pay you to videotape me with my cell phone while I exercise in my home doing push-ups, the flier read.

And it supposedly pays $50 per hour for two hours – no experience necessary.

It s a little odd. It’s a little strange for young adults and teens too? Nunez said.

Young women had an even stronger reaction.

    “What?!” one young woman said.

That s just crazy,” said Gabrielle Rivera of Yonkers. “That s just like a child molester or something.

The flier asks those interested to text a 914 number that comes up in Greenburgh. So CBS2’s Conybeare reached out and said, I saw ur ad I can do videos.

A man texted back: Hello, my name is Charles. What is your name, age, and where exactly did you see the flier?

Conybeare answered, Yonkers, outside Roosevelt,” “Brian,” and, “Over 18.

He didn t get a response, so CBS2 tried calling, but got an automated voice message back saying, “call rejected.”

Once the fliers were pointed out to school security guards, they were taken down.

Yonkers police confirm they are aware of the fliers and are investigating.

It s just creepy and it s upsetting to see this, said Sean McGrail Yonkers Workforce Development Board said.

McGrail said it is a tough time for young people to find employment, especially summer jobs, and some might be tempted by the offer.

Kids who are economically disadvantaged, they re going to jump on this right away. You know, they ll figure, ‘Oh great, 50 bucks, 100 bucks, boom, boom, I m done,’ he said.

He fears anyone answering the ad could fall victim to a predator.

There are reports that the same fliers are being posted in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon.

Fortune magazine has published its annual list of the top 100 companies to work for in America, and a whopping 20 financial services firms made the grade.

Among the top three were Edward Jones, once again ranked #2. The St. Louis-based investment advisor sailed through the recession without having to close any of its 12,615 offices. And it s even looking to hire more staff (see below).

Robert W. Baird Co. came in at number 11; Johnson Financial Group, based in Wisconsin, was the third-ranked financial firm at number 22 on the list. As for investment banking jobs. Goldman Sachs was fifth among financial companies and 24th overall.

The public may view Goldman as the poster boy for corporate excess, but employees are certainly happy with a big increase in bonuses this year. The firm is noted for a high degree of employee loyalty. And Goldman reported a broadening of opportunities for women in the firm, as well, with female vice presidents, including executive directors, up by 21% and the number of female managing directors up by 45%.
